The marriage proposal

"Shit!" Alistair cursed as he drove into the large compound. He had been in a foul mood since his grandfather had announced his marriage.

It irked him that his supposed marriage was in a week and his grandfather had even refused to tell him who the damned woman was. Was it all a ruse to get him worked up! If it was, his grandfather had won this round.

Alistair had tossed over on his bed for nights thinking about it. Now, he would talk to his grandfather. He wouldn't get married.

"Where is Papa?!" He yelled as he strolled into the house. "I won't get married. You can start canceling the plans" that had been what he would have told his grandfather but he wasn't home.

"Why are you growling like an injured tiger?" Abigail had teased him before saying. "Your grandfather has gone to a business partner's house to finish up an ongoing deal according to him. He won't be back anytime soon" Abigail concluded.

"Will you have some canapes while I make you lunch? I had no idea you'd be this early today" Abigail said as she entered the kitchen to prepare food.

"Don't worry Abby. I'm not in the mood for food. I'll be in my room if you need me" he said curtly and went up the stairs. Abigail smiled at his sudden outburst. It was better this way. Mr Han's plan was definitely working.

Only if it affected his appetite would she beg him.

Alistair was thinking of ways to stop this marriage. "What do I do?" He thought as he entered his room.

"After going through what you submitted, I realized that I could take care of your company's needs but as agreed you will have to do whatever I want. That is the reason I came here today." Mr Han said after settling down in the Huffington's apartment.

Reginald, Arianna's uncle, had gone to see Mr Han last month when the company ran at a huge loss. If he didn't find a quick solution, the company would be liquidated.

He had made some risky ventures earlier that year. They hadn't brought profit. He had to beg someone in the business world to partner with him. A good friend of his had directed him to Mr Han.

Mr Han had almost rejected the proposal when Reginald had said "I will do whatever you want."

Reginald didn't have a choice now, he only hoped that Mr Han wouldn't make outrageous demands from him. "I will get back to you during the week. Please wait for my call" Mr Han had dismissed him.

That week was the week Mr Han purposed to get Alistair married. "What the hell!? Where are you coming from?" Mr Han had opened the door to a drunk Alistair as if that wasn't enough he had thrown up on him and had brought a drunk female companion together with him.

The next day while he was thinking hard about what to do to put an end to Alistair's shenanigans, when his gaze met with the file Reginald had brought to him regarding the company's assets and issues.

He had thought of what to do so hard that he had a migraine attack. "I wouldn't have to even give this company a second thought if it were not for Alistair" he sighed.

That was when a thought came across his mind.

"Hmmmmm I think I know what to do. Since Reginald Huffington is willing to do anything. Then let's see how far he's willing to go" Mr Han called for one of his investigators to find out more about Sophia Huffington.

"According to my reports, she seems well brought up. She has a degree in business administration from Harvard amongst other things" his investigator, Paul, had gotten back to him. Armed with this, he announced the marriage to Alistair immediately.

"That would cause him to brood over it well, instead of getting drunk and behaving like a spoilt brat" he had revealed to Abigail who had asked him about Alistair's sudden mood change. She didn't object to it.

"If she's a good lady, Alistair will be lucky" she had given her comment.

"I thought hard about and I've gotten what I'd want from you" Mr Han cleared his throat after a few minutes of exchanging pleasantries with the Huffington's.

"There is no need to waste much time on it. I have…" he was interrupted by Vanessa who brought him a cup of cold orange juice.

"Please have this while the food gets ready" she had smiled at him. "Food? You really don't have to bother Mrs Huffington. I can make do with this" he smiled at her. "No, it'll be done in a jiffy," Vanessa insisted.

When Reginald had told her the almighty Mr Han was coming to see them at home.

She was surprised but elated that something good was coming their way. "How can you be so sure? He hasn't even gotten here." Reginald had panicked at the thought of Mr Han's rejection.

"Think about it, Reg. He didn't call for an official meeting, rather he came to our house. It must be something good. If it were a rejection, he'd have sent his men over not having to beat around the bush" she had said with glee.

"Alright if you say so" Reginald's panic had mellowed down after her words. It was possible that was the reason he came. "Get Ariana to prepare some food for him immediately!" He had said to her.

"If we serve him well, he might even reconsider us even if it's a rejection" Reginald had muttered.

"Alright, thank you" Mr Han couldn't refuse them. After all, if things went well, they would be in laws in no time, if all things went well.

His visit here today wasn't planned. He had decided to pay them an impromptu visit to see how they lived. That way, he'd be well informed before he told them of his plans.

He wanted his grandson to get married but he didn't also want Alistair to fall into the wrong hands so he had scheduled a meeting for this afternoon. "I think they would be a perfect family for my son. They seem to care and love each other" he thought in his mind.

He cleared his throat and said "I will now get down to business while waiting for the food." Vanessa stopped in her tracks to listen, her heartbeats thumping hard in her chest. If Mr Han refused them , they would go bankrupt. She couldn't taste poverty again

"Without much Ado,I have decided to bring you a marriage proposal. Your daughter will have to marry my son" Mr Han said, staring at them intently.
