A Noble in Rags

The armored man stood up from his position and walked towards the younger girl. He extended his hand forward and spoke, “Let me properly introduce myself. They call me, Morris the Ironwall. I am the tank of the team. Welcome to the team.”

As Freya shook his hand, Morris looked at his teammates and called them over. The three teammates had already been looking at them after his test. As they came closer, Freya activated her 'Keen eyes' to gauge their level.

“This is Ariane, our healer.” Morris pointed to a short woman. She waved at Freya with a cute smile. She wore a large purple cloak and a black pointed hat. Furthermore, she also held a beautifully crafted wooden staff with a transparent gem embedded at the top.

Level: 34

Job: Priestess of Orion]

“The dark, brooding lady is Maria, our scout.” He pointed to another woman standing behind the healer. She was covered from head to toe in black leather armor with a dark hood that shrouded her face. She simply nodded at Freya.

[Mary Woodgard

Level: 37

Job: Shadow Assassin]

“And finally, Alex, our team archer.” He pointed at a tall, thin man with a large bow on his back. He had deep black hair with a handsome face. He simply smiled at Freya and nodded.

Job: Beast Hunter]

Freya's eyes instantly discovered the things that they tried to hide. Maria or Mary was an assassin, not a scout. It also revealed their full names, but she understood their reluctance. After all, she had just met them and she was only a temporary replacement.

After the introduction was complete, Mayor Wulfric a came forward and spoke, “I'm happy that you are satisfied with her performance, Morris. Now, let me explain the quest.”

The team quickly lined up in front of him as the mayor began to explain, “There has recently been a small group of Orcs that has been pillaging villages along the countryside. They have burned villages and killed hundreds of innocents. They even attacked some small towns.”

“These savages need to be dealt with. You will set out in two days to trace them and wipe out their group of brutes.” Wulfric continued with disgust and anger. “All of you will be awarded five gold coins just for participating, and two gold coins for each orc killed by you.”

“Yes, Sir!” The team shouted as the speech ended. Morris turned to them and spoke, “We will meet here in two days. So prepare rations for at least two weeks and make your other preparations as you may need. You are dismissed.”

Freya agreed, along with the rest of the group. Although she didn't get to properly meet her new teammates, she knew she will get the chance to know them in the future. For now, it was far more important to make preparations for the upcoming quest.

Freya then thanked Morris and the mayor before leaving the training ground and headed towards the Adventurer Guild.

Fifteen minutes later, she had reached her destination. It was a large blacksmith shop named, Jacob's Swords and Shields. Just as she was about to walk into the shop, a poor looking stranger in rags jumped towards her and grabbed her hand.

“Lady, I can see you're here to repair your sword.” The bearded man said in a raspy voice as he pointed at her sheathed sword, as if he knew it condition without even seeing it. “Why don't you buy my sword, huh? It is far better than anything you will find in there. Please, I am in desperate need of money.”

Freya was about to politely reject, but the man insisted, “Please lady, I need the money for my son's treatment. If I don't pay for it soon, he will die. Please lady just five gold coins” he quickly shoved a large sword completely covered in rags into her hand, “I assure you this sword is worth a hundred times more than that.”

Freya again opened her mouth to reject the offer, when a blue menu appeared before her eyes, leaving her mouth open.

Freya's mouth stayed agape as she stared at the information displayed by the system. A gold coin was worth a 100 silver coins and the stranger was asking for five cold coin, meaning 500 silver coins. But this sword was definitely worth far more than that.

She looked back at the man and used her trait.

[Edward Godmond

Level: 40 (Weakened)

Job: Aura Knight]

The man was at level 40 and yet in a weakened state. And the job was also a great revelation. An Aura Knight, it was the name given to the peak warriors among blade wielders. Why was such a man, selling off his family heirloom for a fraction of its price.

Shouldn't he be able to easily afford five gold coins? Freya took the sword and simply handed a few bags filled with silver coins. It was a major portion of the coins she stole from the ship and the rewards she just received.

“Here, there are about one thousand silver coins in these bags.” She spoke to the ragged man. “Or about ten gold coins. That should be enough.”

“Oh, thank you so much, kind miss.” The man quickly took the coin bags and speedily ran off towards the Church building in the distance.

Meanwhile, Freya looked at the weapon and observed the skill attached to it.

[Demonic Poison

Rank: Rare

Description: A skill that comes from the remnants of demonic energy that are still present in the metal of this sword. All that is cut by the sword will be inflicted with poison of demonic attribute.

Effects:

i) +25% damage to beings of holy attribute.

ii) +10% poison damage of demonic attribute.

Duration: 10 Minutes

Cooldown: 1 Hour]

A demonic attribute skill, it came from the metal of the demon world. Such metals were nigh impossible to obtain, unless it was taken from a defeated demonic warrior. The Godmond family must really have been a prestigious noble family. Freya wondered what could have happened to such a powerful family.

She shook her head to clear her thoughts and then looked at her bag. She had about four hundred silver coins left. It would be just enough to repair her steel sword and pay for the order she commissioned two days ago.

She looked back at the sword and tried to grab its hilt, but a pulse of purple energy erupted from it, staying her hand. So she wrapped the sword back in the cloth and walked in to the blacksmith shop.
