Battle for Havenfall I

Freya stood behind Captain Morris along with the rest of her teammates except for Maria, facing north on the city wall. The dark sky was lightening slowly as the sun was about to rise in the east. Rows upon rows of archers stood along the wall, and the rest of the small army stood in lines just behind the town gate, ready to storm out any moment.

Morris' sharp eyes travelled across the open fields, trying to spot the enemy forces. However, it was still dark and even across the open field he saw no forces that were marching towards the city.

Just as the first light pierced the horizon, a solider came running and saluted the captain before speaking, "Captain! The Orcs have been spotted in the east, coming from the mountain path."

Morris nodded and quickly ran towards the eastern wall, he had been expecting them to come from the mountains but he didn't know whether they will come from the west or the east, as both were equally viable and it was impossible to attack from the south due to the steep cliff. So he simply stationed the small armed forces on the northern wall, from where he could easily relocate them to the direction from which the Orcs were attacking. He had left scouts on the east and the west walls to report to him as soon as they saw any movement.

In under a few minutes, the archers as well the ground forces had relocated to the eastern wall. Freya stood atop the wall and looked to the east. As the blinding sun began to rise, numerous shadows appeared before the sun as they approached the town. Freya couldn't help but raise her hand to block the blinding sun rays.

She was trying to assess the levels of the approaching enemy yet she could barely see them. The glaring sun also blinded the archers, preventing them from firing any advanced attacks. She had tested her improved trait 'Keen Eyes' before the sunrise and discovered it displayed three more details about the selected target.

As she looked to the side to avoid, the sun and her fell on Ariane, who was standing next to her.

[Ariane Carcoll

Species: Human

Age: 47

Level: 37

Job: Priestess of Orion

Highest Stat: Intelligence 64]

She could see their species, age and highest stat. Although she had expected Ariane's intelligence stat to be higher than her, it was leagues beyond her. However, what surprised her even more was her age. She was 47 years old! Yet looking at her, Freya could barely place her above 25 but then she had to remind herself that just like her, Ariane was also a mage. Perhaps even more powerful than her and mages aged differently than normal humans so it wasn't astounding that she looked so young.

Her luscious golden locks and her beautiful innocent smile would easily break the hearts of hundreds of young men, who would never know she was old enough to be their mother. Morris on the other hand was showing his age. The system showed his age to be 49 years. Despite his well-built and healthy body, his crimson hair was beginning to show streaks of gray and even a few wrinkles had appeared on his face.

Yet his strength was undeniable. As he stood atop the wall like an unshakable mountain, his monstrous strength stat of 67 was shown in his bulky muscles. His domineering figure stood atop the wall, staring at the approaching enemies with an atmosphere of confidence and authority. His fearless eyes filled the soldiers with courage as they too stood with their captain without a sliver of fear.

Freya turned her eyes towards the east, forcing herself to look at the Orc force despite the glaring sun. The sun had risen a little and the Orcs had also travelled closer to the town so it became easier to see. Freya finally saw the first Orc that was leading his group towards the city.

The Orc was massive, easily 9 feet tall. His hulking muscles and his ferocious face sent a shiver down her spine. Two blood red tusks emerged from his mouth, and yet the feature that stole her attention was the enormous scar that ran along his face. His bright red eyes contrasted his dark green skin, adding to his fearsome look. His long raven black hair tied in a ponytail behind his head. He wore a huge brown fur hide on his shoulders strapped across his huge chest and brown leather pants. A pair of huge red axes rested crossed on his back, most likely made of pure Orichalcum.

[You have failed to activate the trait, 'Keen Eyes', due to target's high level.]

She concluded that this was most likely Jeera, the Orc leader. His level was at least 45 if she failed to use her trait at her current level. Far higher than even Morris, who was currently the highest levelled individual among the humans. Yet what filled her with even more fear was his steed.

He rode atop a humongous wolf, easily six feet high at the shoulder. It had dark blue fur with a majestic white mane that moved with the morning wind. Its large mouth baring its huge fangs at its master's enemies and growling at them, as if to challenge them.

Even the huge wolf was wearing a leather armor strapped across its chest and a leather helmet adorned its head. Even its legs had protective leather wrapped around them. A huge gray saddle on its back for its master to sit.

Species: Direwolf

Age: 7

Level: 27

Job: Jeera's Steed

Highest Stat: Agility 45]

Even his ride had a higher level than her. How could she have ever thought that she could fight this monstrosity? It was completely impossible even if she used her magic, forget solely with her swordsmanship.

Unfortunately for her, Jeera was not alone, just behind him rode numerous Orcs riding huge wolves as well. Although they were not direwolves, the large gray wolves had no trouble carrying orcs that had an average height of more than six feet.

Just behind them was an even larger army of humans, riding on horses in a disarray. The huge numbers of raiders and bandits waved their weapons and roared as they rode behind the orcs intent on pillaging and looting the town before them.

Yet, Freya's eyes were solely focused on the hulking behemoth that led the large group of bandits. Her feet unconsciously backing away from the fearsome Orc that rode like a conqueror towards Havenfall.
