Chap 20: Surprise and death??

Two weeks had passed since the fateful pact between Alex and Tang Fei had been forged. The arrangement had seemed simple enough at the beginning – Alex would stay with Tang Fei, acting as a sort of caretaker for the young boy.

Yet, as the days turned into weeks, an unexpected bond began to form between them.

What had started as a mere companionship swiftly evolved into a deep friendship, catching them both off guard.

Strangely, Tang Fei had grown attached to Alex in a way he couldn't quite comprehend.

His mood would sour whenever she wasn't around, and he found himself seeking her company more often than not. Alex, on her part, had never expected to feel so connected to the child. She found herself genuinely caring for his well-being and happiness, and the thought of leaving him behind now seemed unbearable.

As the days melted into one another, the reason for Alex's presence began to blur.

The initial purpose of her being here had almost slipped from her mind. It was as if time itself had woven a cocoon around her, shielding her from the demands of reality.

However, a simple utterance of her new name, Selena, would rudely awaken her from this cocoon, reminding her of the task she had taken on – to fulfill wishes, whatever that meant and also about her past that hurt her deeply.

Thankfully, most of the wishes were handled by Tang Fei, who displayed an uncanny ability to make things happen.

She felt relaxed as both wishes were fulfilled with Tang Fei's help and she was just spending time here

Alex's role had transformed into that of an observer and occasional guide, ensuring that the young boy's escapades didn't lead to chaos.

Yet, beneath the surface, a growing unease gnawed at her. It wasn't the wishes or the peculiar circumstances that troubled her; it was the way Tang Fei looked at her.

At first, his gaze had been distant, akin to how one might regard a stranger. But slowly, imperceptibly, something shifted. Alex couldn't quite put her finger on it, but his eyes seemed to carry a weight of understanding, an intensity that left her feeling exposed.

It was as if he was seeing something within her, something she hadn't even acknowledged herself.

She believed that she would find the answers soon enough. Fate, however, had its own designs. One day, Miss Xiao, Tang Fei's usual bearer of news, approached Alex with a message that sent a shiver down her spine.

"Miss Selena, the master wishes to see you."

The words hung in the air like a foreboding cloud, casting a sense of impending doom over her.

With a mixture of curiosity and apprehension, Alex made her way to Tang Fei's study.

Each step felt like a journey into the unknown, her heart fluttering with a sense of unease. As she reached the entrance, she paused, taking a deep breath to steady herself, before gently rapping on the door.

The voice that responded was deep and commanding, unmistakably Tang Fei's. "Come in."

Pushing the door open, Alex entered the room, only to be met with darkness. The heavy scent of old books and polished wood hung in the air, creating an atmosphere of mystery.

Before her eyes could adjust, the door behind her closed with a soft click, followed by the sound of a lock sliding into place.

Her heart quickened, the realization of being alone in a dimly lit room with Tang Fei igniting a pang of fear.

Then, in the dim light, she saw him. He emerged from the shadows, his presence suddenly looming larger than life. Before she could react, he lunged at her with an object that glinted ominously.

Her body froze in shock as she felt a searing pain in her chest, and warmth spread rapidly across her front. She looked down to see a dagger lodged in her chest, blood staining her clothes and hands.

In her confusion and pain, she managed to choke out the word, "Why?"

Tang Fei's lips curled into a chilling smile, and his voice, once familiar, now dripped with a disturbingly detached calm. "Because my task is to end you, I am a hunter my job is to end bugs like you."

Alex's mind reeled with disbelief, a mixture of shock flooding her senses.

She clung to the last of her consciousness, her world narrowing to that single horrifying moment.

Because she heard real Tang Fei's voice from outside the door
