Just as we pass over the summit of a mountain, we see an entire cloud island decimated into pieces. Houses on small pieces of clouds are scattered across the air. The sun has already disappeared from the sky, making the scenery of this place eerier.
"What the hell happened here?" I ask.
"'What the hell happened?'—indeed. . .," says Zuriel, flying ahead to investigate.
"Helena," I say. "stay close."
"I can handle myself," she says as she flies away from me.
It's true but. . . I just wanted to show how much I care about her. Well, I won't give up. I fly to catch her until I'm near enough to save her if anything unexpected happens.
The place is becoming more like a maze because chunks of clouds are everywhere. Someone could get lost here. I look at Nisha and she's trailing behind me.
"I'll watch your back, dear," I say to her as I fly after her.
