Chapter 13

"Doctor, I have something to consult with you. Could you please take a look at this medical record. "

Dun came to Doctor U Myint Moe who was the most experienced doctor in this hospital and hepped up with a question he didn't have knowledge of.

"Is Noble Lin admitted to this hospital?"

Dun let out a sigh and shook his head to his question.

"He's my younger brother."

"Oh, I see. What's wrong with his medical record?"

"Doctor, it's like this. If we take this into consideration on the surface, the symptoms are somewhat similar to autism. However, the thing is my brother doesn't respond fast like autism patients. Yet, he is not a mentally impaired person."

Dun paused a while. He took a moment to think of what to say and only then, he continued.

" To be honest, he was adopted by my parents when he was four. Since that time, he has been behaving the same. Doctor, what I wanna know is whether being inexpressive or disabling to show feelings is congenital. Or is it because of trauma? I have no idea at all. That's why I'm here. I also couldn't interrogate him about these things."

"Well, it depends on the situation. Even if it's congenital, he's already 18 and impossible not to know emotions. If he happened to hide his feelings, it must be due to the trauma he suffered."

"But, Doctor, he arrived at our home when he was four years old. So he was still too young before that time. Does mental stress affect kids under four years old? Is it possible to engrave the incident in their mind?"

Dun was serious about this matter. Nobel Lin is like a problem that doesn't have a solution. Dun became interested in this because of the paintings Nobel Lin drew.

"It's hard to say. Still, if I have to give my opinion on this matter, people can feel things since they came out of the womb. He will also express his feelings in some way. If the patient gives a small clue, the good have to look into that as far as they can."

Doctor Myint Moe stopped for a while and was considering. Then, he kept on talking.

"One can hide hatred, but not love. If he couldn't show sadness, then he will be able to express happiness. Anyway, his life seems peaceful. It's a blessing in disguise that he is not constantly acting wild."

He commented considerably.

While Dun was making the round, he noticed other doctors are grouping near the counter so he walked up to them.

"Doctor Dun, come here. Let me introduce her to you. This is newly appointed doctor, Saw Thadar Phyu. Nyima( sister, not blood related though), remember. This is Doctor Dun Nay Kha, whom we mostly relied on."

Dun flashed a smile and greeted her. In return, she, who was slim and had while complexion, also greeted me with a polite smile. Today female doctors were really captivating. One day, Dun also planned to settle down by marrying this kind of lady and establish a family life. His wife must be able to communicate with Nobel Lin. Dun's life is pitiful. Even when he was choosing a wife, he had to consider whether she is compatible with the boy, rather than with himself.

"By the way, there will be an educational campaign to Taunggyi, Inle, and Pintaya this coming Saturday. They requested four doctors and two nurses from our hospital. Who will come along?"

The oldest nurse was holding a paper and asked them. Dun definitely had to follow along when there's a campaign like this. But the situation was not the same as before. There was Nobel Lin at home. Aunt Mya and uncle Naung could not help the boy when he was out of control. They used to go for four days and three nights. Thus, he couldn't leave Nobel Lin at home for four days. It's not that long since Nobel Lin was back to normal.

"I have tons of appointments on that day. So don't take me into account."

Saw Yatu firstly backed out. Then, other doctors who didn't want to take part also gave excuses not to go.

"Dun, you're gonna come along, aren't you? You used to follow us so"

Dun was somehow uncomfortable. He could not rest assured leaving Nobel Lin alone at home.

"My brother has just returned home. Thus, I can't leave him alone. The elders at home won't be able to control him if something happens."

"Is he the boy who came to give you lunchbox last time?"

Dun nodded to the question of the nurse, Ma Thi.

"Take him along with us. We can take care of him. He is quiet though."

Of course, he is quiet. He doesn't respond nor listen.

"That's right. Phyu will be there too. You can take him with us."

Addressing herself as "Phyu," Saw Thadar Phyu also urged him to bring along the boy with her smile. Dun heaved a sigh. He hoped it would be okay as Nobel Lin was not that misbehaving.

"He'll be here with my lunchbox so you can ask him later. If he agrees, I'm down."

Dun didn't intend to decide everything for Nobel Lin. He has his own desire, too.

"I'll help Saw Yatu with your appointments. Doctor Nwae Thu Zar said that she would come along the previous day. Then, we've finally got four people. For two nurses, Ma Thi and Lin Lin, please go along with them. Okay. Let's disperse. It's time to resume your work."

It was U Moe Myint who solved the problem on behalf of them. Dun went to Shin Min Myat to tell her about the trip and convinced her of the operation. Yet, she wouldn't budge in her decision.

Putting on light blue one-set shorts, the boy entered the hospital, holding the bag. The nurses who had seen him before greeted him but the boy didn't look up at them and steadily walked to where he had to be. Nobody would blame or complain about his behaviour. Who in the world didn't know this adorable boy who happened to be Doctor Dun's younger brother?

Leaning the door to Dun's office, the boy was standing there. As he was wearing shorts, his creamy lower leg complemented with the light blue colour that made him stand out.

"Oh, it's Noh Noh. Are you here for KoKo? Come in. What would you like to drink? Ma Thi will make it for you."

Calling herself as MaThi, when the nurse put the files on Dun's desk, she recognized Nobel Lin and heartily greeted him. She also invited him into the room. His chubby cheeks were covered with a shade of red due to his white complexion. Moreover, his deer-like eyes were adorned with thick and long eyelashes. His impeccable innocent face seemed ethereal.

Compared to Dun Nay Kha, his facial structure was totally different. Dun had a manly facial structure with a straight nose, sharp eyes, and always wore a soft smile. Although they two were not similar to each other, this pair looked somehow appealing and affectionate brothers.

"No, thank you."

Nobel Lin uttered word by word when he said "Khabya," formal polite suffix when one talked to the elders, as he was taught he must use that usage. The boy locked on the nurse's eyes and replied. That made Ma Thi uncontrollable to touch the boy.

"Oh gosh, you are so sweet. What are you? I get a tingly feeling right now. May I touch your cheeks?"

For Nobel Lin, this was not the first time he was asked to touch his cheeks as he was famous among those who love kids. He nodded slightly and Ma Thi wanted to take another step and questioned if she could squish his cheeks.

"Doctor, why didn't you tell us sooner if you have such a lovely younger brother. Oh, right! By the way, we are going on a trip to Taunggyi. Dun said he would go only if you come along. So do you want to come with us?"

Nobel Lin lowering his head racked his brain for a long time. Then he saw Dun come in.

"If you want ,say yes. If you don't, say no, Nobel Lin. Why do you make others wait for you? Can't you decide this small case?"

Dun was not wearing his usual smile when he talked to Nobel Lin. Ma Thi was uncomfortable as this was her first time seeing this kind of Dun. Didn't Dun love his brother?

"Yes, I want to go."

Nobel Lin was looking at Dun and then gave an answer as he turned to her side. The room seemed to drop temperature suddenly so Ma Thi readily left the room by saying goodbye.

"Are you here for lunchbox?"

Taking off his duty coat, Dun asked him and the boy nodded.

"Did U Naung take you here?"

The boy nodded again and it got on Dun's nerves. Because the boy started to quiet down unlike him a moment ago who was conversing with Ma Thi. What did it mean? Did he dislike being with Dun? Did he think Dun loves to be with him?

"Dun, let's go get lunch."

Saw Yatu opened the door and when he saw Nobel Lin,

"Oh, you have someone send your lunch box. When your brother is here to deliver it, you didn't even bother to invite me. Don't tell me you are planning to eat secretly. "

Saw Yatu came into the room and took a seat beside Nobel Lin.

"Where's my portion? Lil'bro, I don't feel like eating the food here. Dun said that you could cook well. "

"Cough..cough"

Dun choked while eating chicken soup Nobel Lin brought. Dun thought himself ungentlemanly because he was blaming the boy while eating food he made.

"Eat slowly. Otherwise, you will be choked to death."

Saw Yatu and Dun had been brutally honest confidants for a long time so the only one who can tell off Dun in the hospital was Saw Yatu.

Nobel Lin gave his lunchbox to Saw Yatu and pulled slightly his duty coat. With a smug face, he grabbed the spoon asking,

"Is this for me?"

Nobel Lin subtly nodded. Dun was shocked due to the boy's unexpected behavior. Sometimes, Nobel Lin looked and behaved no different than a normal person.

"Is that long bean stir-fry? I'm gonna try it. Lol."

Saw Yatu, grinning widely, picked up the dish and complimented Nobel Lin's skill while wolfing down the food one after another. Due to lots of portions and extra steamed rice, Dun didn't say anything and patted the spot near him for Nobel Lin.

Although Nobel Lin brought extra rice and dishes, he didn't carry an extra spoon and fork. That's why, the responsibility to feed Nobel Lin fell on Nobel Lin. Dun was in an euphoric mood because the chicken soup the boy made was really heavenly.
