TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE

"YUJINIE, are you alright?"

"I should be the one asking you that," Yujin said weakly while Geun-wook was removing the nebulizer mask that Mr. Nightmare had put over her face earlier. "Geun, are you okay? I thought you were already a goner."

Geun-wook, who looked so pale and weak at the moment, chuckled. "I won't die," he assured her. "Not until you're safe, at least."

She didn't like how it sounded.

[Then are you going to die once you made sure I'm safe?]

She couldn't ask that, though.

Plus, there were millions of other questions floating in her mind at the moment.

Like, how could Geun-wook remove the nebulizer masks easily?

How did he suddenly come back to life like he wasn't half-dead just a moment ago?

And more importantly, how could he easily send a Grim Reaper flying?

"Yujinie, go home," Geun-wook said after he helped her stand. "I'll hold back the Grim Reaper. You said your house is protected by a powerful barrier, right? Then you should be safe there."

"No," Yujin said, then she grabbed Geun-wook by the arm. To be honest, it was still hard for her to move because of the gaping hole in her stomach. However, she knew that she didn't have the luxury to dwell on her pain. She was good at enduring pain, so it didn't take long before she could make herself believe that she wasn't hurt. "We should leave together, Geun."

"One of us has to stay to hold back the Grim Reaper, Yujinie."

"Then I'll stay here with you," she insisted. "Two is better than one, Geun."

He shook his head firmly. "It's too late for me to run away from the Grim Reaper."

She knitted her eyebrows and wanted to ask what he meant by that.

But before she could even speak, she already found the answer to her question after looking at her childhood friend properly.

Geun-wook's lower body had already turned semi-transparent.

"No, no, no," she said in a cracked voice, a lump instantly forming in her throat. She was able to endure her physical pain. However, seeing Geun-wook in that state made her crumble into pieces instantly. "This can't be…"

Geun-wook smiled at her as if he was telling her that he was fine. "When did you become such a crybaby, Yujinie? Don't waste your tears on someone like me."

"Sun Geun-wook, don't talk like that," she scolded him between sobs. "I won't let you die."

Her childhood friend just smiled sadly at her.

She, on the other hand, could only cry. This was the first time that she cried after she reached her teens. She hated crying because it made her feel weak. However, this time, she couldn't pretend to be strong.

[I'm losing my childhood friend right before my eyes and I can't do anything to save him…]

"Aww, how touching."

Her vulnerable moment was interrupted when she heard Mr. Nightmare's sarcasm.

She grabbed Geun-wook by the arm, then she pulled him behind her and stood protectively in front of him when she faced the Grim Reaper.

As expected, Mr. Nightmare wasn't that injured even after Geun-wook sent him flying.

"Oh, to be young and in love," Mr. Nightmare said sarcastically. "If you can't live without each other, then why don't you just let me devour your souls together, huh?" The Grim Reaper smirked, his eyes turning into creepy little crescent moons again. "Two is better than one, am I right?"

"You've been saying strange things since earlier," she said, looking at the Grim Reaper suspiciously. "Mr. Nightmare, you're not a normal Grim Reaper, are you?"

Mr. Nightmare laughed like the villain that he seemed to be. "You just realized that now?"

She was about to say something when the ground shook hard.

It looked like it wasn't the work of the Grim Reaper since even Mr. Nightmare looked shocked.

"Moon Yujin."

She turned around to face Geun-wook who called her by her full name.

And, much to her shock, he pushed her hard enough for her to fall to the ground in shock. However, she didn't have the heart to get angry at him for pushing her after she saw him run towards Mr. Nightmare who just suddenly appeared between them.

[Ah, he did it to protect me.]

"Aish," Mr. Nightmare complained when Geun-wook suddenly appeared behind the Grim Reaper. Then Geun-wook wrapped his arms around Mr. Nightmare tight. "Let go of me, Wook Sun!"

"My name is Geun-wook now," Geun-wook growled at the Grim Reaper, tightening his hold on to the Grim Reaper. "I'm taking you with me."

Huh?

Mr. Nightmare looked confused by what Geun-wook said.

Even Yujin was confused, too.

[What is Geun talking about?]

But soon, her question was answered.

The entire room stopped shaking, then a huge tree suddenly appeared behind Geun-wook. Because the tree appeared out of nowhere, both the floor and the ceiling were destroyed. Long cracks appeared all over, and the small debris from the broken ceiling fell.

She didn't know what that giant tree with black leaves was. But judging by the fear in Mr. Nightmare's face, the Grim Reaper knew exactly what it was– and it scared him.

"Dammit, let go of me!" Mr. Nightmare snarled at Geun-wook while trying to wriggle out of the latter's tight "bear hug." However, Geun-wook didn't even flinch. "How did a mere human like you who was supposed to die tonight suddenly become this strong?!"

She'd like to agree with Mr. Nightmare.

However, she didn't have the luxury to ask Geun-wook anything because the body of the tree behind her childhood friend suddenly turned into a door.

And when that door opened, it began to suck Geun-wook and Mr. Nightmare in.

"Moon Yujin," Geun-wook said, then he smiled sadly at her. "Goodbye."

Yujin stood despite her aching body, then she began to run after Geun-wook, who was being sucked in by the strange door. "Sun Geun-wook, come back here!"
