“Yes, your highness?” she asked, turning back to face him, with her head cocked.

“Where do you think you are going, my lady?”

“Why, for a little walk. I don’t have much doing in the castle so I had a mind to take the air and stretch my legs. These past days, I have spent too long in my chamber and I am not bedridden. Please, your highness, I will not be long.”

With that said, she dropped him a courtesy he found so annoying and walked on as if the matter had ended.

“Come back here! I did not grant you leave to go!” Conroy growled, hurrying after her. He overtook her with his longer strides and planted himself in her path, his arms crossed over his chest, “The air in the castle walls are quite crisp enough, you will stay!”

“Stay, you say, your highness?” her delicate brows arched as if in shock.

“Yes, that is what I said.”
