The blood drained from Sian’s face as she stumbled back in denial, “What…?”
Amelia immediately reached for the stunned she-wolf who recoiled from everyone.
Time seemed to slow as everyone looked at the human girl, a look of shock in their eyes.
Arian’s eyes were feral, his teeth bared as he repeated, “Mate,” the word slipping out of his lips like a familiar song and he went rigid all over as everything he had built up to this day came crashing into pieces.
She couldn’t be his mate; she was not his mate. How? He already mated to his beloved. Moreover, she was a human and he was a werewolf. It was dreadful. It was unbelievable.
And it was terrible timing above all else. He felt a surge of panic as he glanced across the halls at Sian, realizing what he had to do. What he had to do to remain loyal to his beloved, Sian…the mother to his pups. He would have to hate her. Hate the human. That was the only way the human would be safe. Sian had an unhealthy temperament.
