CHAPTER 39

  Nate’s POV

  I could smell it on her. Her insatiable need, her desire to be ravaged this very moment and I would willingly give that to her, but out here?

  That was going to be a problem.

  Unmarked females in heat were a risk to themselves and the pack’s security. Their scent carried for miles and would attract every unmated male in a wide radius, desperate to claim their place between her legs.

  It was a primal need and left over from the times when werewolves were hunted almost to extinction. So many wolves lost their fated mates in the slaughter and this was a way to ensure that the species survived.

  A normal werewolf would go into heat once, maybe twice a year if her genes were strong and if she bore children, the heat would not occur again until at least 5 years after the birth to ensure the mother could focus on her pups sufficiently and integrate them into the pack structure.

  An alpha female, however, was unknown territory.
