CHAPTER 66

  Ember's POV

I was dimly aware of being carried roughly, as my body jarred painfully with each heavy step taken. The fingers digging sharply into my skin made me want to cry out in pain, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't get my body to respond to me.

I fought to open my eyes as a terrible pit of despair began to form in my stomach as the all too familiar musty damp scent of being underground began to invade my senses, but I was exhausted.

Instead I lay there unresponsive, as the nauseating smells permeated my senses and grunts, wails and various voices swirled above my head.

None of this made any sense to me, hadn't I just gone for a run to clear my head?

I scrabbled wildly in the darkness of my mind, trying desperately to reach for my wolf, but there was nothing, no sign of her anywhere and suddenly I felt very alone.
