CHAPTER 30. A Day with Cassian

  ?

After a mentally tiring day out with Augustus yesterday, I decided to flood myself with pending paperwork to clear my mind from everything that happened with him. Even when we arrived back at the palace, he treated me as he always did, with pure indifference.

Anne was particularly interrogating me that night about what happened with Augustus, even when I told her that all we did was talk about books she firmly believed that I was keeping secrets from her. In the end, I just allowed her to use her own imagination to interpret whatever romantic scenario she wanted.

I was so immersed in finishing my work that I had not noticed the time passing by so quickly until it was already evening. I stood up from my desk, stretching my aching body just as there was a knock on the door. I assumed it was Anne here to serve evening tea.
