Chapter EIGHT

  SAD MEMORIES

Becca and Steph drove off to Becca's house where she (Steph) met her dad and siblings who had just arrived home. They welcomed her warmly happy to see her after so many years even though the twins had a foggy recollection of her.

“It's nice to see you again Mr Jacob and you both have grown so much.” She said referring to the twins who watched her from the dining as they ate lunch.

“And how is Mrs Bernice doing?” Steph asked our of the blue. All the joy and excitement in their eyes vanished and was replaced with sadness.

Steph was confused at their sudden change of mood oblivious of the impact of what she said.

“Why don't we go to the room to drop off these bags.” Becca said finally after a prolonged silence dragging Steph to her room.

“What happened out there? Everything just suddenly became awkward.” She asked once Beeca had closed the door.

“My mum died.” Becca said flatly and hastily cleaned the tears in her eyes not wanting to feel bad.
