CHAPTER 36.

I released a breath I didn't know I was holding and grabbed my drink. I gulped it down just as quick as the last one and just as I was slurping the last in the glass, the girls came over to the bar. They were laughing and singing to the music as they walked a straight line over to where we were standing.

”Six shots, please!” Steph yelled to the bartender who poured us each a shot of tequila.

We raised our glasses and downed the liquor.

”I need to pee,” Mikayla said and Steph followed suit. Vanessa hoped up on a chair beside mine, her eyes were distant and her head was down. Sam and Dave were talking on their own side but I saw the shallow glances Sam was throwing my way.

I turned around and placed my hand on Vanessa's arm.

”Are you alright?” I asked her.

Vanessa forced a big smile and nodded her head.

”Yeah, of course I am,” she said happily but the undertone said differently.
