CHAPTER 11: Protesting

　　RUBY

　　The silence in the room was deafening as everyone stared at me before their gazes narrowed into glares. I still glared up at my mother, at her audacity to make a choice for me. Making a fool out of me in the process.

　　"Who died?" I said trying to break the tension in the room.

　　Vanera made eye contact with Kace and Orson, who nodded and walked out.

　　"Ruby was pretending to be unconscious. I'm sorry on her behalf," Mom said and bowed her head, shadowing me in guilt.

　　For the first time in my life, my actions made my mom bow.

　　I stood up from the bed, and asked, "Mom, why are you bowing? And what are you even apologizing for?"

　　"Ruby, I have canceled your engagement with Sergio," Mom spoke up, her words stopped me in my tracks as I stared at her in disbelief.

　　"What? Why? Why would you do that without my permission? What the hell will he think of me?" I questioned, the sudden news was shocking to hear.
