CHAPTER 99

  Completely engrossed in the novel she was reading, Emerald was suddenly jolted out of her world of fiction by the shrill sound of her ringtone bouncing off the walls of her now, brightly lit room. She let out a quiet groan, rubbing her head as she had jolted upright without thinking twice, thereby hitting her forehead against the one-layered bookshelf constructed over her bed.

  Making a mental note to have it finally removed, she answered the call without bothering to check who the caller was. “Who is it?” she asked brusquely, her voice coming out gruff.

  The other end remained quiet for a second before replying. “Am I interrupting something important?”

  Hearing the familiar voice, Emerald's eyes went wide as she immediately straightened up. She looked at the name displayed on the screen before moving the phone back to her ear. “Uh. . .no, not really. Hi,” she breathed, her cheeks heating up.
