CHAPTER 15: DID YOU FORGET SOMETHING AGAIN?

Araphel spent half his day in the throne room, speaking with the elders. It was the type of the meetings he dreaded.

'Some of us, most of us think it would be expedient if the supposed grand leader of the fifth coven were to be present.' One of the elders spoke, while some others nodded in agreement. She was the only female at the table and she heavily clothed in expensive silk.

'My daughter's absence is of no concern to you or any of the elders,' Araphel replied plainly.

'It does concern us if the leader of the most powerful coven is being intimidated by humans. How then is she supposed to protect the people from the Archenemy?' Another elder asked. His question was followed by discourse and mutters between the leaders.

'It's been more than a comfort to meet your acquaintances. I appreciate the progress we've made. See you all soon,' Araphel smiled.

'I'd like to see you later Forneius,' he said before exiting.

'Well of course dear friend,' Forneius smiled and curtsied in his seat.

Jeanette stared at the mirror for what seemed to be forever. Again, she scanned her appearance from her hair to the black shoes she was wearing. She had a brown dress on. Her choice of jewellery was simple. It was a gold locket that laid on her smooth chest and a bangle on her left wrist. All gifts from her mum on her eighteenth birthday. They went perfectly with the dress. Jeanette preferred natural makeup, so she had beige lipstick on and her eye lids and lashes were nicely outlined by her black eyeliner and mascara.

'Good luck Jeanette.' She smiled, whispering nervously to herself while looking at the mirror.

'Brrrr'

Her phone rang and she reached for it. She grinned when she saw the name of the person who was calling on the screen.

'Hello,' she said after picking the call.

'Hey, are you set?' The manly voice from the phone asked.

'Uh…yeah. I am,' she answered.

'Okay. I'll be right there. I'm on my way.'

'Okay,' Jeanette was about to say when the man hung up

'How nice of him,' she thought out loud as she shoved her phone into her purse and prepared to leave the apartment.

After about forty-five minutes, Jeanette heard the sound of a horn. She shifted the curtains a bit and peeped through the glass window. She saw a classy black car with a man who was looking at his wristwatch, as he sat on the driver's seat. The car looked like it was recently purchased as it brilliantly reflected light from the street lamps. Jeanette switched the lights off and left the apartment.

'Hi,' she said as she walked out the front door. Outside was cold and a little breezy. She immediately rejected her choice of outfit, but it was too late to change. She would probably want to change her makeup afterwards as well. Just as she was about to start shivering, she remembered a black shawl that would complement her dressing and shield her from the unexpected cold.

'Forgot something,' she excused before running back inside.

'Okay, hurry up,' the man in the car said, looking at his watch again.

In less than a minute she was out of the house and ready to go. She stood at the doorstep waiting for the 'gentleman' to compliment her dressing, but he didn't.

'Did you forget something again?' he asked looking at her as though she was unbearable.

'No.' Jeanette answered more embarrassed than disappointed.

'Okay…do you mind getting in?' he asked sarcastically, before starting the car.

Jeanette only smiled nervously and opened the door to get in.
