CHAPTER 18: WHAT A WASTE OF PERFECT MAKEUP

'Ah! You've got to be kidding me.' Jeanette exclaimed when the rain got even heavier. It was complimented by the ice cold breeze. She felt naked as she stood outside with the cold water splashing on her feet. She was freezing but there were no chances of her return to the tavern. She reminded herself to be patient.

'Such a waste of perfect makeup. I didn't even take pictures,' she thought. There was another gust of cold wind that fanned the droplets on the roof towards her direction. Jeanette shuddered and laughed. She was stuck outside in the rain and all she thought about was taking selfies. She was certainly going to be sick the next day.

'I'd give a jar of gold for whatever's making a beautiful lady, stranded in the rain laugh,' a familiar voice said from beside her, a young man in a black coat. Jeanette lifted her moist palms which covered her face, to see who was talking to her.

It was…DAMIEN! She used to wonder if she'd ever see him again. The only thing different about him now, was the clothes he had on. His perfectly outlined face, chiseled jaw, sideburns, glistening black hair, dark mysterious eyes, pointed nose and thin lips. Every feature of his face excited her.

'Damien?' She said in a breath, holding back the urge to brush his cheek with her cold palm.

'You have quite a good memory,' he smiled.

His smile was breath-taking. It exposed his faultless dentition.

'You must have a really great dentist,' she thought in awe, before she remembered the hospital's obnoxious head dentist. She rolled her eyes.

'Is everything alright?' He asked with a chuckle. His accent, Jeanette couldn't quite place a finger on it, but she was sure he wasn't from Jade City or even around it.

'Yes.' She smiled back. Her toes were so cold they began to hurt.

'Here, have this. You're shivering.' Damien said as he took off his coat and put on her.

'Thank you. Aren't you cold?' She asked as her body enjoyed her heat from the long coat. He was obviously comfortable in what he was wearing; a black turtle neck sweatshirt that leaned on the features of his torso and black trousers.

'I'm fine,' he assured her.

We finally arrived at a large cream colored house with a red roof. There was no gate. The place had large green lawn that was nicely complemented by the gardens and flowers that surrounded the house. It was welcoming and very contrary to the dark creepy cave I had pictured in my mind. The sound of crickets as well as the giggles of Jade and her sister, was audible.

'You wanna knock?' Brachia said to Meghan.

'Sure…'

*Doorbell rings

'Come in,' we heard a calm voice say as the door slowly slid open. Meghan was the first to walk in. The rest of us followed.
