On a previous adventure in this world, I picked up a useful skill.
[Tracking]
I got this skill after discovering zombie's footprints on the ground.
It made me look at those prints completely differently, I could see a lot of Informations that I wouldn't be even able to thought of before.
I could determine freshness of those prints, their depth let me know approximate size of the zombie that left them and of course direction where the zombie came from and where was he heading to.
I followed those prints and soon enough, I found my prey.
Looking at this zombie confirmed information I got previously. In front of me stood zombie in his mid twenties, he had standard height and weight for a guy his age.
I recalled this incidend after seeing new prints, I found today.
At first I didn't thought much of them, they were really similar to zombie's prints, rought and clumsy.
It didn't take long for me to realize that they were indeed made by a human being, but a living one and... (That person was franticaly running away?)
Shocked, I stared at the ground. It was my first encounter with signs of a living person in the Kingdom of Udela.
Eventually, I regained my composure and quickly followed in direction where those prints were leading me.
After rather easy chase, I found who I was looking for.
I saw 4 humans, surrounded by about 30 zombies. It didn't take a genius to determine that odds of them surviving were equal to 0.
Those 4 were made of 2 middle aged men, 1 elderly woman and a child. Just from their clothing, I could notice that they were normal villagers.
Two middle aged men had weapons, one of them was holding a rusty sword and other had a pitchfork.
Their weapon choice was different, but there was something they had in common, both didn't know what to do. They just stood there with trembling hands, nearly making their weapons fall out of their grip.
While sitting there, I was calmly thinking what to do (Save them, or leave them be?)
"Well, I wanted to kill some zombies either way." with this, I picked my own equipment. I wieled sword in my right hand and revolver in the other.
Slowly walking out from the woods, I approached the nearest zombie.
Standing behind him, I finished him off with a backstab. This draw others attention, with zombies starting to approach me and humans screaming out in fright.
"Stupid." Their screams will only attract more enemies. Irritated by their behavior, I begin to slaughter every zombie around me.
It didn't take long for me to deal with half of them. When you combine swordsmanship, magic and guns, you can get rid of them pretty fast.
Some fall without their heads, others with bullet holes or cuts all over their bodies and some got penetrated by spikes I made with earth magic.
After my last week in the Kingdom of Udela, I improve in all aspects. Now, dealing with those zombies became easy.
But, if I can deal with them it doesn't mean that others can. While putting my weapons back in my inventory, I saw the man with a rusty sword getting thore into pieces.
When he noticed how easy I masacrated my opponents, he decided to do the same.
Unfortunately for him, after killing one zombie he got too confident with himself and met his demise for this exact reason.
His dead brought terror in his companions, making woman and a child flee. This attempt as expected ended up in failure, with both ot them having a miserable death.
Last one made a kinda smart choice and got behind me, while screaming "Save me! Please save me!"
With him behind me, I yelled out "Shut the fuck up!"
Fortunately, it worked out without any complaints.
(Finally, I can focus on something else.) I made a decision to train in hand to hand combat, this's why I stored my weapons beforehand.
I put mana in my fists and aimed at zombie's head, crushing his skull without much effort.
Then, I grabbed next one and throwed him at three others, making all of them fall to the ground.
I used earth spikes to end their lives and thought to myself (I need to find a new spell to kill my enemies, those spikes are getting kinda boring.)
Rest was slightly harder, zombie bite me resulting in my focus being broken and me stumbling on a corpse under my feet.
With my back on the ground and zombies swarming in on me, I created a wall made of stone to prevent them from coming any closer.
After I got up, I took out my sword, not wanting to test my luck any further. With my melee combat still lacking, I can't afford to endanger my life.
I knew that I will need to train it more, but right now is not the time.
With my sword in hand, any previous threat disappeared.
Soon, the fight ended with me wiping blood off my sword and someone crying in the background.
Turning around, I glanced at the last survivor.
"Stop crying already."
"But. But. My Family, they're dead." he said those words with his head lowered.
"Grieving over their death won't bring you anywhere. Especially now, in this place full of undeads."
Hearing what I said, didn't lesser his sorrow, it even accelerated it. (This Idiot will kill us both.)
With this thought in mind, I started leaving until I heard a grown man cry out in horror.
"Were are you going? Don't leave me alone."
Without turning back, I began to walk forward "I'm doing exactly that. I'm leaving you alone."
I took couple of steps, before I felt that someone hugged my leg. Looking down, I saw the same guy.
"Let go of me."
"No!"
(He's getting on my nerves.) Having enough of this, I was ready to break his legs. But my plan was interrupted by a loud sound.
Looking to my left, I saw a huge silhouette emerging from behind the trees.
Right away, I knew it wasn't anything good. And, soon enough this huge silhouette showed itself in all it's glory, it was a massive creature similar to a bear.
This bear is looking similar to a brown bear from my old world, but he's almost twice the size of the one I knew, about 4 m in lenght and 2.5 m in hight. Looking at him, I could immediately determine that he was a zombie. If not for his red glowing eyes that gave him away, then his half eaten face and his side that showed some of his remaining interion organs, with broken ribs all around it, pretty much confirmed my guess. But those wounds didn't make him any less intimidating, with his massive body, huge claws and sharp fangs ready to tear any living being that stood in his path was enough to awaken fear in anyone's heart.
And what scared me more than this bear himself, were wounds on his side. (What monstrosity could hurt this giant bear like this?)
With this sight, I realized that I still knew nothing about this world.
But all of this was plain in comparison to what I'm about to experience.
"What are we going to do?" I heard terrified voice next to me.
Looking down at the man that was still hugging my leg, I put hand on his shoulder making him turn to me.
"Do you belive me? " I showed him a ressauring smile.
"Ye... Yes." He replied not fully convinced.
I nodded my head and made him stand up in front of me.
"So, we will do this..." halfway thought my sentence, I kicked him in the back and created a wall to seperate us.
(I hope he will last long enough for me to escape.)
Right away, I could hear him screaming like an animal being skinned alive, which probably was happening.
But, I didn't care. I'm not a hero, I just want to survive and if that means that I need to sacrifice a innocent life, I'm all for it.
*BAM*
"What was th..." before I could finish my words, I felt something similar to a speeding car hitting me in the back.
