Chapter 71: Wheels of fate

The howls had died down and the night seemed to have become quiet once more.

The first hunt for the young ones had been cancelled as they had all passed out, and everyone was ordered to return to their homes.

It wasn't quiet in the city though as people talked and whispered about the strange phenomenon. A phenomenon that had cancelled the Full moon celebrations for the first time.

The older of the werewolves looked apprehensive as they had witnessed a something quite similar to what had just occurred, more than a decade ago when a certain pup[1] was born. Though it wasn't to this extent it was still something that the elders of the werewolf community had witnessed personally. That phenomenon was so strange that Alpha Salazar who was 24 years old at that time had no choice but to order a kill order after he and the priestess met. No one knows what they had talked about that day but it was a fact that 2 weeks after that he had decided to execute the kill order.

The child was believed to be dead and the potential threat was somewhat averted, but now this phenomenon had taken place.

What did this mean?

Alpha Salazar was in stride at this moment. His steps powerful and domineering, his back straight and his eyes still radiated a red glow. It was now dawn but the agitation he felt from that powerful howl still shook him. Though he didn't want to believe it at first, no matter how hard he thought about it, it all pointed towards one thing.

The streets were mostly empty at this time and the sun was still on the verge of rising. The direction he walked to was Luna's Temple. It was large structure towering to even 10 meters, the walkway to the door was made of stone before reaching the pearl marble like terrace steps that led to the door. The shape of a large crescent moon stood at the top and it even gave off a slight aura of power.

The entrance to the temple was a wide arc single door. He walked up the marble terrace steps before stopping before the door that stood at about 5 meters.

He knocked lightly. "Permission to enter priestess," the alpha asked in a polite tone.

If this was an ordinary location he would have just gone through without even asking, he was the alpha after all. But when it came to goddess Luna's temple, he had to be respectful because before the goddess everyone was equal.

Silence filled the surroundings for a moment before the door swung inside on its own.

"Thank you" the alpha bowed at the door before stepping inside. The door closing behind on its own once more. The inside of the temple was pristine. the room he was in now was the main worship room, it had a large aisle blanketed by a blue, shiny carpet. It led all the way to what seemed to be a grand altar. It had the graceful and elegant statue of a flawless woman gliding on top a crescent shaped moon. This was the statue representing their goddess, Luna.

At the base of the statue, a petite figure knelt. The figure stood as Salazar approached. She was a woman with sparkling blue eyes. When she turned to look at the alpha she smiled slightly.

"Its been a while since I last met with you Alpha Salazar" her voice was soft. Like the whispers of the wind yet all the more audible.

Alpha Salazar didn't want to be here for long.

"I've been forced to visit this temple due to recent circumstances…" Salazar replied. Looking at the priestess straight in the eye. She held his gaze. Unlike the other wolves, she was the only person who could stare eye to eye with the alpha backing away and submitting.

It was a characteristic that Salazar had always found to be slightly intriguing. Was it because she was the representative of the goddess or was it because she was always like that? Regardless, Salazar continued to speak.

"…I'm sure you know what I mean…Celine"

The priestess held her breath at the mention of her name. A nostalgic settling in her stomach. How long had it been since Salazar had called her by her first name? She couldn't remember, it was probably when they were still young and attending the academy. Her heart trembled slightly but she didn't show it on her face. She may have found him to be a charming individual back then but after the events that took place more than a decade ago, she just couldn't see him in the same light anymore.

Still, she answered.

"What do you want this time? Ask for advice and when I give it to you. You should just ignore it?"

Salazar remained silent. This was exactly the reason why he didn't want to stay here for too long. He didn't want to be reminded of the sin he had committed back then and he sure as hell didn't want to be reprimanded by Celine. He believed he had a lot of things to do.

Seeing Salazar's expressionless face, Celine could only sigh.

"Just…do whatever you want to do" she turned around and faced Luna's statue once more before continuing. "I have to get back to my prayers to goddess Luna"

Salazar stood still for a moment, complex emotions flickered in his eyes for a moment before they disappeared. He turned around and left the priestess to herself. Not even looking back as the temple door shut behind him.

Celine bit her lower lip. As a single tear slid out the corner of her eye. She had just been given a small vision of the future and the goddess had forbidden her from speaking about it to anyone else.

On top of that she was also given a mission by the goddess.

'My child you are to head to the western city of the American continent.

Find the one with purple hair,

Bring him to retrieve the legacy of the Skywolf

Carry this out with the utmost secrecy as the wheels of fate have begun to rotate'

The wheels of fate seemed to be turning indeed.
