"So... Any ideas on how to solve the puzzle?" Hao ask
"Hm, while it is obvious that the gate needs something to fit right in there, the problem is what should we use to fit in there?" Kaori mainly said to herself, "Any ideas, Valka?"
Valka, who had been silent this whole had been observing the room.
"Perhaps we used these?" Valka said while pointing at something, causing both Hao and Kaori to turn toward the direction Valka was pointing at.
Valka is pointing at a table decorated with all sorts of objects, but what truly caught their attention is two colourless orbs that sit on top of the table; and top of those orbs are glass tubes that lead into different chemical vials that have different colours of chemical liquid in them. Underneath those vials is a single button that can be pressed.
Those colour chemicals are red, green, and blue.
"Well, that seems simple enough. Press the button to change the colour of those orbs to the same ones on the gates and fit the orbs in. It should be simple enough, right?" Hao said
"Hm, I highly doubt that. Look closely; the yellow in a vial and the yellow on the door are in different shades of colour, so I highly doubt that yellow alone would be enough." Kaori said toward Hao, making him turn toward the door and back toward the vials.
"Hm, you're right. So, we got to mix the colour; that will take a long time." Hao mutter
"I think what colour we need." This time, it was Valka who responded to Hao, and it was Kaori who responded to Valka
"Ho? How did you know Valka?" Kaori response
"On the gate, miss Kaori." Valka pointed at the two colour gates, "The letters on the gate I recognise. They are chemical symbols." Valka explain
"Chemical symbol? How is that related to the colour?" Kaori ask
"Well, the Au symbol is gold, and the Ag symbol is silver. So we need to make those orbs colour silver and gold." Valka explain
"Really? Do any of you know the right combination for those colours?" Hao asks, entirely out of his environment.
"I do." This time it was Kaori that responded toward Hao
Kaori made her way toward the vial and started to press the button underneath it; however, the moment she pressed the button, a holographic screen popped up in front of her, and Hao and Valka could see it.
"What is this?" Kaori said while looking at the holographic screen, making Hao and Valka make their way there and look at the screen.
On the screen, it said.
1.618 gold =? and 1.618 silver =?
'That number...' Hao thought.
"That's a golden ratio number." Hao and Kaori said simultaneously, causing them to look at each other.
"I did not expect you to know this. Colour me surprised." Kaori said
"Oh please, woman. I'm not that dumb." Hao responded, "But how do these relate to the mixing of colour?"
"That, I do not know, however..." Kaori muttered before looking down at what underneath those number
First orb = 0 red + 0 green + 0 blue
Second orb = 0 red + 0 green + 0 blue
"I also have just realised. How can we make silver with black and white colour?" Kaori muttered, "This is harder than I thought.
"I think I know how," Hao said, causing Kaori and Valka to look at him. "Had you guys ever heard about RGB formula?"
"Ah, the RGB formula? That made more sense." Kaori muttered before typing in the numbers.
"You know the value?" Hao asks Kaori
"Of course, while I always questioned these numbers as a kid when I was doing my art lesson, I never would have a guess it would come up here out of all places." Kaori said, "While I certainly don't know the specific value for every colour, gold and silver just happened to be two of the many values I know of."
RGB or red, green, and blue. They refer to a system representing the colours used on a computer display. Red, green, and blue can be combined in various proportions to obtain any colour in the visible spectrum.
"Now... this should be it."
First orb = 255 red + 215 green + 0 blue
Second orb = 192 red + 192 green + 192 blue
"I gotta ask, but how did you know these?" Hao cannot help but ask
"Well, art and literature are two of my best subject; I know practically nearly everything about them," Kaori explain. "While Valka, as you might be able to tell, excel at anything related to science."
"Huh, that's cool." Hao cannot help but mutter
"Oh, please praise me however you see fit," Kaori said, hearing what Hao said, which the latter promptly ignored.
"But what does the golden ratio have to do with all these?" Kaori said
"Why don't you divide it?" Hao quickly answer back toward Kaori's question
"What? Why would I divide it?" Kaori ask
"Well, while it did not say it clearly, I am sure they want us to find the golden ratio of the said number value, so you added them all together and found the golden ratio for each one," Hao explained.
"That complicated... the answer should be..." Kaori muttered to herself before Hao immediately interrupt
"The first orb will be 290.482, and the second one will be 355.995," Hao answered immediately.
"That was fast. Are you sure it's right?" Kaori ask
"I'm pretty sure. After all, I'm quite confident with my math." Hao explain
Kaori only hummed as a response before typing in the numbers; after she typed in the number, the vials started to heat up before the liquid began to move toward the two orbs. Those two slow change in colour, before finally those two turn into colour gold and silver respectively.
"You know I never expected something like this in a fantasy game? How can they expect normal players to solve this puzzle without help?" Hao said
"I certainly agree with you there. It seems these game developers throw in all kind of puzzle and see what stick and what does not. I hope they will not do this kind of puzzle again." Kaori said while watching Valka take the orbs before putting holes in the gate.
The moment Valka puts those orbs in, a clicking sound can be heard, and the gate slowly opens. It reveals a chest behind the fate with a long steel pathway that seems to lead to another room.
"Well, I guess that the drops of the room?" Hao ask
"Correct, you get a cookie," Kaori said before making her way toward the chest and opening. "Hm, as expected, the loot is for my class," Kaori said before showing Hao and Valka the loot, which for Kaori is pretty bad.
"I guess I can sell it later." Kaori then put those items inside her inventory. "Now then, shall we make our way inside."
Hao only shrugged, and Valka only silently nodded, and the party quickly made their way deep inside the dungeon.
It was not a long walk before they arrived in a new room.
The room can be described as massive; it looks more like an enormous dome than a room. Not only that, down underneath, the group can also see that there is something down there.
A chest and something else seem to be at the centre of the area.
"Ok, now this is a surprise. I was expecting more room inside the dungeon, but who has guessed after that one room, the next room would be a boss room immediately." Hao said while looking down at things in the centre of the area.
"I guess after that puzzle, that is quite hard for normal players and would take a lot of time to solve for an average player, they compensate it with boss room immediately," Kaori responded while looking down at the arena. Valka only stayed silent.
At the centre, the group can see the dungeon boss.
It seems to be a dragon, not a wyvern, with a pair of legs and wings for arms. The wyvern appears to be colour half gold and half silver, and the face looks more like a snake than a dragon.
But what truly stands out is the plate of futuristic armour that decorates the wyvern body.
"Seriously, I thought this game genre is fantasy nor sci-fi fantasy. Just what the hell with this quest?" Hao said while looking toward the wyvern that stood out from all other bosses he had ever seen.
"I hate to say it, but I agree with you. However, at the same time, it also got me curious about what kind of this is. Just what kind of NPC did you accept this quest from?" Kaori ask
"Well, he seems normal enough for me. I see nothing wrong with that guy, but I am sure there is more to him." Hao answered back.
"Hm, here I thought this quest chain of your going to is quite boring, but I guess this is gonna entertainment more than I thought."
