Chapter 18 Enough!

The car door slammed shut, getting Max's attention. It wasn't long before Candace came inside.

"Are you ok?" She asked frantically dropping everything as she entered the house.

"Yeah." Max said, getting up to look for Lucky through the blinds.

"Where's Lucky?" He asked.

"Emergency at the company. He left me with you."

Max peeked out the window, receiving a wave from Lucky as the car headed up the road.

"He's got a werewolf in his neighborhood and he's going to work? What about beast hunting for himself?" Max asked, disappointed, sitting down.

"The police think that's what severed the phone lines." Candace said, taking a mug from the cabinet and beginning a fresh pot of coffee.

"Why won't they kill off those things?!" Max asked, "If Mr. Erin hadn't been home who knows what might have happened. I forgot my gun. Took a walk. Next thing I know, I'm being chased by Big Foot's cousin!" He exclaimed.

"Calm down Max. The government knows that they are people first. Wolves second." Candace said, sitting at the kitchen table. "Lucky is with the government. On the safer side of it."

"But we were attacked."

"I haven't forgotten."

"We need to go." Max said.

"You're ready. Already?" Candace asked, getting up and entering the living room.

"We've lived here all our lives." She said.

"No we haven't. Really, Lucky has." Max said.

"I don't believe you right now!"

"Candace, we came for Babe's vigil. Not to play full moon games." Said Max. "I'm tired of this and you should be too."

"What do we tell Lucky?" Candace asked giving in to her little brother without a fight.

"Huh?" Max asked in disbelief. "Let's just leave a note, call a cab, and lock up." He said, exhaling his frustration.

"Make sure you thank Mr. Erin." Candace reminded him and picked up the business phone.

"Don't worry. I will." Max said, as he dashed out the door.
