What did I just do?!

(George's POV)

*****

I had sworn that I checked my emails last night before going to sleep. But then I woke up, to see an important mail saying that today was the day of the meeting. I rubbed my eyes, maybe I was still dreaming. I pinched myself out of bed and got myself ready as expected. There's nothing I can do now. I stared in the mirror for a few moments, at my messy self. I then simply took a bath and rustle my tangled-up hair.

I put everything in my bag, my laptop, and all documents that I might need today. Then I heard the purring sounds and felt softness dangling around my legs. I looked down at the bundle of furs rubbing against me and I smiled. She hummed and looked at me blinking her crystal green eyes. All of a sudden I found them mesmerizing and comforting. I felt like I could not take it anymore.

"You want me to pet you? Hmm?" I picked her up in my arms gently and pecked her on her head while stroking her soft furs with affection.

"Ouch." I winced as she bit me on my finger. I immediately let out go of my grip on her. She jumped out of my arms and sprinted towards the kitchen. I widen my eyes at her, as she walked boldly on her four legs like she hasn't done anything. She then used her forelegs to paw at the cabinet door where I always keep her pet food.

I looked up at the ceiling and sighed. Oh right. I had almost forgotten about her. I opened the cabinet and took out her food can. I warm it in the microwave and served her breakfast.

I looked at the time and I hissed under my breath. After that, I instantly went to the café nearby work. I didn't wait, I just grabbed the takeaway sandwich and coffee and dashed off to the office. I don't care if I'm looking like a starving beast eating his meal devilishly while walking but I need to feed myself before a long day ahead of me. I had planned on drinking the coffee when I reach my desk.

I don't think Lexi was going to forgive me this time. She was the head of the department and was pissed off the last time when I got in late. What made it worst I messed up the data for the program in the previous meeting we had. Now, I was late again.

'I'm telling you, George. This is the first and last time. I'll personally throw you out of here if I have to!' I could hear her words ringing in my ears like a bell. I had just nervously laughed at that time, but I knew she would eat me alive. I hurriedly weaved myself through everyone and hopped on the lift that was first available. I hated that was the only entrance.

I made it onto my floor to get to my desk when I bite my tongue and sizzled. I saw Lexi the in the distance. Standing right at my desk. I clenched my jaw. Lexi, Rebecca, and Stan were standing there. I could bet a million bucks she was asking where the hell I was. Just seeing her hands on her hip and those narrowing my eyes staring at them. I knew that evil look all too well.

She didn't look pleased with all. I sighed heavily. Why, God, why today? She looked my way and I hurriedly scurried out of her line of sight taking a deep breath. I crossed my fingers, hoping that she didn't see me. I looked down the hallway and decided I would wait it out a bit.

Somehow I found myself in the break room. Luckily, no one was in the room. I placed my stuff on the table available. I felt like I was sweating. I was devising a plan. Thinking I could claim I was already here and was just having breakfast, and lost track of time a bit. Then I realized it sounded stupider when I was thinking about it. I shook my head and ran my hands over my face.

I needed this job, it was pure luck I got it in the first place. The top candidate decided to reject the job and I got this job by fault. I sat, rustling my hair. This was a problem. What the hell was I going to do? That's when she walked in.

I looked up and watched her as she walked. Her hair was tumbling over her shoulders. She was about average height, with a slender neck, modest breasts, and defined hips. She was well dressed. She had on eye shadow and a glittery foundation that seemed to match her skin tone.

She didn't recognize me in the room, as she walked past me with the ear pods stuffed in her ears. She swung right towards the pantry in the room. Clearly, she already knew what she wanted. I went back to my thoughts.

"I can't believe this, where could he be?!" A woman's voice called from behind the door that parted the hallways. It was Lexi. Great! She was coming into the break room. I sprung up. I considered running an option but… where? This was a dead end, and the only exit was the hallway. Obviously, she would see me. For a moment, I accepted my faith and then I noticed her still wiggling in the pantry, unable to reach what she wanted.

Without thought, I bolted to the pantry and closed the door. It was tight, but it definitely fitted us. She gasped and turned around to see me. The fright on her face wasn't as frightening as I heard the door for the break room opening. As I placed my hand over her mouth and pleaded with her mouthing the words on my lips. 'I'm sorry. Please be quiet.'

She widens her eyes at me. Her expression was enough for me to realize I think wasn't thinking straight, and this decision might just be the worst one I had ever done. At the time it felt right when it popped into my head. Great, I am living a freaking nightmare!

"This idiot! He had the program I need for this presentation!" I heard Lexi's angry voice.

"Maybe something happened, I'm sure he knows," Stan said, trying to calm her.

"Maybee! He should resign! He's late again!"

"You can't say that…"

"Really Stan, do you see him around here?! If he was early he would be at his desk the moment I showed up," I rolled my eyes, the moment Lexi said this. I exhaled quietly.

"That sloth is fired!" Lexi continued and Stan quietly tried to claim her down. I felt a hand on my arm. I had almost forgotten the stranger I had barricaded myself with. When I looked at her, for some reason she seemed more relaxed, as she gently asked me to release my hands from her lips with her signaling hand motions.

She nodded to the discussion that was happening in the room and I guess by her notion she understood what was happening. I slowly removed my hand. She didn't make a noise. Instead, she stared at me intently. I looked at her lean face and narrow nose, straight into her brown eyes. I didn't realize how close we were before until now, faces inches apart. Her eyes searched my face just the same.

"You better find him, Stan! Otherwise, you're fired too!" I heard Lexi's flare.

"What!" Stan responded. I could hear her, about to storm out when her heels paused.

"Whose coffee is this?" I took in a deep breath and held it. Crap! I had left my stuff on the table. I braced myself on the ledge in the pantry waiting for the worst.

"I didn't know," Stan sounding irritated now. I heard a popping sound. She hummed.

"It's Macchiato," and with that, the both of them left the room. It crept into my mind, realizing she took my Macchiato, the coffee I order this morning. It took me a moment to succumb to my next problem. I stared at the woman, with whom I had locked myself in the pantry.

"I-I am sorry... I really didn't mean to… " I panicky spoke to her. I checked her face for any kind of reaction but I found none, she still wearing a blank expression. "Look I'm just avoiding my…" Suddenly she placed her fingers on my lips.

"I can see that," she finally spoke. Reaffirming that she did understand my situation. We were still somewhat glued to each other as I stood propped against her. I gazed into her eyes again.

"Since we are helping each other, do mind reaching for that jar of Pretzels," She said to me again. I wasn't sure if she was still nervous or fine. I cautiously reached for the Pretzels, she was attempting to reach, still fastened to her eyes.

Without any heads-up, she grabbed my collar and kissed me straight on the lips. My eyes widen, not sure how I should respond. Her lips felt so soft and warm that I almost forgot everything for a moment. She parted her lips and I felt her fingers, pulling me closer.

I squeezed my eyes shut due to the anxiety growing in the pit of my stomach, making its way toward my chest. She pulled me in, claiming me. With that, I accepted her hungry and her warm intensity. I could feel her frame leaning into me as her arms wrapped around me. I tighten the hold I had.

She then just broke the kiss. I could see her breathing heavily from the loss of air and I could feel my heart beating so loudly. This feeling. Why did she kiss me? But what is it that I'm feeling right now? She then grabbed the jar of Pretzels out of my hand.

"Aren't you going to let me out?" She asked. When I gathered myself together, I looked up at her face again. If I could have died of embarrassment on spot I would have already exploded. I immediately pulled the doorknob and came out of the pantry. I turned away from her rubbing my jawline. What did I just do?!

"Hey," I heard her voice. I turned to face her. I squeezed my eyes shut again and gathered up my voice to apologize, as I looked at her.

"You owe me one," she said giving me an admiration smile on her face. I stood there not expecting that response. She then turned and left the room. Leaving me lost in thought.

After a couple of minutes, I decided to meet my faith. I was going to lose my job, I might be reported for harassment. I walked in with silence to my desk. I already lost everything.

"George!" Lexi howled. I waited patiently for the eventuality to unravel itself.

"Next time tell me you have something urgent to do!" I looked at her lost, sipping my Macchiato. "I need that program for the meeting. It's ready right?"

"Yea..." I replied, confused.

"You're sure?" She looked at me a bit concerned.

"Yes, Lexi," I answered a bit more confidently. She scanned me with her eyes, sipping my Macchiato.

"It better be. Get your ass ready for that meeting. That programming bundle, better me ready!" She said while walking away.

"Yes…" I answered skeptically, keeping my composure. She then turned to look at me.

"What are you waiting on?! Get your ass in there!" She said beckoning me. I opened my bag trying to retrieve my laptop. I was still lost, but no way I was diverting from her back to me being late.

"Hey, bud next time give me heads will you?" Stan came towards me. "She was going to fire both of our asses."

"Really?" I played along.

"Could've told me you got called to that server room to debug a virus," Stan said.

"Oh… yea right," when did I reach over into the server room. "Sorry about that, man," I said to him. He nodded to me as he walked to the meeting room. Great, I was saved, but I was never in the server room this morning.

My stiff posture relaxed as I sighed. Then I stroke my lips, remembering. 'You owe me one,' sung at me. Did she have anything to do with this? I didn't even know her name, but I'll never forget her face. I chuckled, closing my eyes and smiling maybe I owe you more than one.
