New Work, new life (?)

I was standing in front of the huge M Corporation building.

It was one of the largest companies in this country. They specialized primarily in the production and marketing of films and books. And they were rather successful with it.

For some time i just stood in front of the skyscraper and looked at the glass building in awe.

In the pictures it already looked impressive, but in reality it was something completely different.

I couldn't help but feel a bit small and intimidated next to such a huge building.

I took a deep breath and then walked resolutely through the door.

After all I wanted to look like an Alpha.

An Alpha would probably never get intimidated by a building.

. . .

In the foyer, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist behind the counter.

Her light brown hair was pinned up in a tight bun and two large, round eyes peeked out from behind thick horn-rimmed glasses.

Somehow she reminded me of an acorn.

I put on a friendly smile:

"Hello, I'm here because of the interviews that will take place today." I started. I tried my best to look confident and strong.

"Are you here for the interview for the position of Mr. Jones assistant?" She asked me and looked at me with her fawn eyes.

"Exactly."

"Could you tell me your name, please?"

"Nora Saintclaire."

The lady quickly typed something on her computer. She probably wanted to make sure I was on the invitation list too. There were probably many scammers who pretended to have been invited.

"Then please take the elevator to the 42th floor. There is a waiting area. You will then be called by a colleague for the interview." She said after the checkup.

I thanked her and got to the floor in question.

Even the elevators looked classy and of high quality. I really wished that I could work here. It would be a dream which came true.

But when i got out of the elevator and examined the waiting area, i realized that the competition was very high. I really shouldn't have expected anything else. Nevertheless I was still a little overwhelmed.

At least two dozen applicants sat in the spacious lounge. They all wore high quality business outfits and looked very professionally too. I gulped.

Most of them were Alphas. You could tell by the smell and their gestures and facial expressions. They didn't look nervous at all.

I quickly searched for a free space to sit.

Immediately after I sat down, a tall, bald man walked into the room.

All attention was now on him.

"Welcome, dear aspirants. My name is Adrian Daulton. Mr. Jones is on a business trip so i will be conducting today's interviews. But before we begin, I would like to put you all through a little test." He began.

My heart immediately dropped into my pants. Nobody said anything about a test. I wasn't prepared at all.

What if i perform badly and therefore wouldn't get this job?

"Mr. Jones is particular about his assistant's tolerance of pheromones. Since his pheromones can be very strong, it is important that you are able to continue working and not run away in fright or get defensive. That's why we primarily recruited only Alphas and Betas for this job. He is also very sensitive to smells, which is why he cannot stand strong smells from other alphas for very long without getting aggressive. So you should be able to suppress your impulse to emit pheromones yourself. The little test will consist of me letting out a huge amount of Alpha Pheromones and observing how you'll react to it."

"What a weird test." Someone mumbled next to me.

But I was kinda reassured. At least it wasn't a knowledge test or anything like that.

After all, I was good at dealing with pheromones. So it shouldn't be a problem for me.

"if you think you're bad at handling other people's pheromones, then this isn't the right job for you. I would therefore ask you to leave beforehand to avoid unnecessary commotion." He continued.

Some of the applicants stood up immediately and left the room without a further word. I watched them briefly as they got on the elevator to leave the building.

Now we were only about twenty people.

„Since you stayed, I'm assuming the rest of you agree with the testing process." He said.

Right after that he released a huge amount of pheromones.

I could feel that there were many. It was almost overwhelming.

But I didn't mind. At least i'm not sensitive to alpha pheromones. That has saved me now.

It was the first time I was glad not to be normal.

The others seemed to be struggling really hard.

I saw how most of the others now make a face and try desperately to keep their own pheromones under control. It must've been unbearable to them.

Gradually most of them got up and left the room as quickly as possible. They couldn't stand the pressure any longer.

The Alphas who stayed instead went straight for confrontation:

"What kind of shitty test is this anyway!? As if we couldn't really work just because of these extreme pheromones!" Someone yelled angrily.

He was ready to fight. Ready for an attack. You could see that directly in his hostile posture.

"Well... you're actually the best example of that right now. By not being able to keep calm, you are proving to me that you are not suitable for this position." Mr. Daulton explained rationally.

"What the f-"

"The only person in this room who can keep complete calm is she." Said Mr. Daulton, pointing at me.

I slightly jumped, completely startled. Then I took a quick look around the room and actually realized that i was really the only one who could keep her composure.

"That's why I'm going to interview her first." Mr. Daulton continued.

"Would you please follow me, Miss?" He asked professionally.

"Of course." In answered. Then i followed him with deliberate steps.

However, I didn't get very far because the aggressive competitor from earlier held me back at my elbow.

"Hey! How the fuck did you do that?! I can smell that you're an Alpha too. How can you keep this calm when someone else's Pheromones are penetrating your nose like that?! Don't you feel triggered?" He confronted me. It almost sounded like an accusation.

"I don't let pheromones decide whether I get a job or not." I answered firmly.

"Tch. Snooty bitch." He snarled.

"Are you done here now or should i call security?" Mr. Daulton asked the aggressive Alpha. It almost sounded like a threat.

Without a word, the alpha let go of my arm so that i could continue on my way to Mr. Daulton's office.

. . .

"I'm sorry you just had to witness this commotion. But it is the most promising test procedure." Mr. Daulton apologized, while we both sat down in his office.

It was a spacious office with a huge window front. The interior looked modern and sublime - like the rest of this building.

„Ah, no worries. Not everyone has the disposition to be able to keep themselves under control. Especially not the Alphas." I reassured.

"But you're an Alpha yourself, aren't you?" He made sure.

"I-I just mean that it is especially difficult for Alphas to keep their pheromones under control." I tried to explain a bit desperately. I could have slapped myself for the stuttering and the insecurity in my voice.

"Don't worry. I know what you mean." He said with a faint smile on his lips. Somehow it calmed me a bit down.

I shouldn't be so nervous. It's just a regular Job Interview after all.

"So shall we begin, Miss…?"

"Saintclaire." I completed with a business smile.

He looked at me in surprise. Then he briefly checked his documents again. Then he looked up to me.

"Nora Saintclaire? Are you related to Edward Saintclaire by any chance?" Mr. Daulton asked curiously.

Somehow I already knew that this question would come up.

"Yes, he is my father." I answered with a small sigh.

"Oh really? I didn't even know that he has a daughter."

"I'm the youngest one in my family." I informed him.

"So you want to do an apprenticeship here and then switch to your father's company?" He assumed.

"Not really. I would be happy to stay here with your company. "

"Well, that is very gratifying to hear, Miss Saintclaire."

it seemed like he was lost in his thoughts for a moment.

"Mr. Jones is a very busy man. This means that you will probably also have a lot of work to do. Working overtime would not be uncommon. Is that okay with you?" He then asked.

"That wouldn't be a problem for me. After all, I would learn from the best." I said confidently.

"That's a quite good answer, Miss Saintclaire. You really seem to take after your father in terms of work ethic." Mr. Daulton commented smiling.

"I'm glad to hear that. He has always been a great role model for me."

"I can't blame you for that. He is a great man who has achieved great goals." He commented happily.

"Mr. Jones will also be on many business trips. You will probably accompany him almost all the time. Are you okay with that?" He asked next.

"Since I was a child I have always traveled a lot. I'm used to not staying in one place for long. That would be no problem for me." I assured.

"Okay then last but not least: Why did you choose our company? Your father owns a big, considerable company himself. Why didn't you go to him?"

"To be completely honest, I wanted to earn my success honestly. With my father as a Boss, I would have always had the feeling that I was only rewarded so well for my achievements because I was his daughter. I also like your specialization better. I thought that I would probably work better in an environment where I would be surrounded by things that really interest me." I explained honestly.

"Okay then one last question: could you start here tomorrow? We've been slacking off on work a little since Mr. Jones' assistant went on maternity leave a week ago." He asked directly.

I was a little taken aback by that question.

"Does that mean, that…?" I left the question open at the end.

"Of course, it would initially only be a verbal commitment. but looking at your competition out there, I'm sure you're the right one for the job. I would send you an email this afternoon and then discuss further details with you. You can sign the contract tomorrow."

I was speechless for a short moment. I never thought it would be that easy. And that's only because I posed as an Alpha. It was really incredible.
