The person's firm hold on my neck nearly caused me to suffocate. Although I attempted to loosen my grip, my body's pressure simply worsened matters.

"Quit it, Mira! There's nothing wrong with you, according to him!" Myra let out a scream, and by that time, she had grabbed my leg to keep me from dangling.

"What are you doing, Mira? I know that you're simply trying to make a scandal out of me so you can get rid of me as student council regent. Stop what you’re trying to kill her!" Isabel, who had noticed that her palm was beginning to turn black, attempted to stop Mira. Her iris color was changing to a brilliant white.

In a close call, I nearly passed out. For an instant, I felt my hands move on their own to my suffocating tendon. I could feel the electricity frying them. Still, with a gleam in her eye, Mira raised the hand that would be her instrument in releasing my neck from whatever power was holding me there.

This is not how I die. This is not how I die... This thought kept running through my head. At long last, I had my hands around your neck. My fingertips surprised me by sending little electric strands that crawled up my neck. My breathing was unimpeded, as though a cold compress had completely covered the area.

After that, I stopped feeling like I was being suffocated. I was weightless, but the air from my hands kept me from passing out.

Mira's nose was dripping blood when I took another look at her. Her abilities had been overworked. This was the first time I'd ever met a fearsome witch, yet I felt like my inner strength had protected me.

"Mira! That's enough! You might kill him!" Chase followed closely behind Mira, worried she was using her power to override his own.

"Kill her, I say! Yes, without a doubt, I will"

An adrenaline rush went through me. It was like someone took a knife to the power that was ready to kill me.

The woman's life was cut short when Chase merely slapped the back of her neck. The tremendous force trying to kill me faded into thin air. Somehow, I managed to fall to earth. Fabian, the man in the bandana, beat Isabel and Myra to the punch as they made their way toward me to give chase.

His strong arms grasped me and almost hugged me as he lifted me to keep me off the ground. It had a pleasant, minty scent, like an expensive perfume. What a seductive aroma! When he saw that I was okay, he began helping me to my feet.

From behind Fabian, a voice sprung to attention. Even as he went to speak to Chase, his hand remained on my arm. Mira had raised her head and was staring at me. His look was constantly searing like he had planted a seed of fire in my chest, which lingered there for a bit.

"Are you o—" Fabian and Chase asked simultaneously.

"Yeah. I think," I said. When they continued, I nodded my head. Feeling anxious and excited about the scenario at the same time, I quickly answered their query. I understood the subtle meanings.

It is considered polite to glance at the person speaking to you, Miss. The man's tone seemed a bit self-centered. He used his muscular arms to raise Mira, unconscious, once more. "Simply put, I'm bringing this Zenovia to The Drift's residence. I'll see you soon, so please pass along my apologies to Fina."

The man finished his sentence and walked away. There was no hiding his ripped physique under that knitted brown shirt of his. Because of my firsthand experience, I knew he didn't care about keeping Mira hidden.

Fabian took a few steps back, a grin on his confident face. I'll go ahead and introduce myself now that you're looking fine.

Say it with me now: "Fabian del Ayre, twenty years old, blue eyes!" Myra, his biggest fan, spoke up again since she was interested in him. He glanced at the dashing youth without batting an eye.

Like he was ashamed of what Myra had done. It was evident to everyone but him how well-liked he was. In spite of his fame, he made an effort to introduce himself, which was noble and sophisticated.

"Call me Fabby!" The hissing from Fabian resumed. He grinned so widely that his eyes seemed to melt out of his face. I reached out to shake the hand he had extended to me.

It took a moment, but I finally managed to breathe. I cracked a small grin and extended my hand to shake his hands. “Stella Suarez."

"Hello, Stella! It's nice to meet the girl who managed to escape the Zenovian death grip." The assurance of his speech was another of his endearing qualities. It has a knack for making friends. He dove in with complete assurance.

“It's me,” Myra! In the stands, the woman was seen waving madly.

"Of course, I know you, Myra, and Isabel." His eyes darkened when he turned to Isabel. From the looks of it, it's like he had so much he wanted to say to Isa that he couldn't.

Isabel just nodded. There was no trace of joy or happiness on his face. "We have to go to Stella's coterie. If you may excuse us, Mister Del Ayre."

"Sure, sure." He smirked. He raised both of his eyebrows and wrinkled his forehead as he bid goodbye to me.

We resumed walking as if nothing had happened. My body will quickly heal, thanks to my abilities. I wouldn't die that easily. Myra and Isabel acted as though nothing out of the ordinary had occurred by not asking what had. They may have encountered numerous healers like myself.

We finally made it to the prominent ridge. In preparation for the gathering, numerous students gathered around the mound. The heads of the academy were sitting in a corner. I just know Dr. Santi there. The rest were just unusual people whose faces I won't have to think about for a few years. Almost all of them are ancient.

A black-clad woman, her pet owl, perched on her right shoulder, strode abruptly into the group's center.

"Professor Zow Glynnie is a half-fae, half-witch. They have a history with Sir Mikael, Santi's chief butler," Myra said.

"All new coterie students, please proceed to the center mound!" exclaimed the lecturer. He raised his brow while waiting for the new students to approach the mound.

"This is your moment, Stella!" Myra was my happy pill.

My nerves began to fray. The closer I got to the raised altar, the more unsteady my feet were. I saw Avi tagging along with the rest of the first-year students. She gave me a flirtatious bat of her eyelashes before making her way to the raised platform upon which the Trinity seal is housed. In my opinion, she now appears more prepared. Her anticipation was well founded. The woman had witnessed it—several times.

We have ten new students this year. Two of the girls were probably around my age, and the other three boys were between the ages of 18 and 20, making a total of three people the same age as Avi.

We all made our way to the square stone bearing the Trinity seal. Even Avi looked nervous while she glanced.

"The mound for coterie will awaken your true ability. Once your ability is awakened, it will change your eye color. It will be harrowing. Some of you may bleed, but it will all be worth it. Your eye color is your true focus," Zow continued.

What the professor said made me more nervous. How can I bleed? How will my true ability come out if my body automatically fights the wound and pain?

"Sister, let your guard down." Avi managed to scream. Worry started to creep into his face.

Zow glanced at us. Then she snapped her fingers, and a heavy downward pull began.

The first of our bodies hit the ground. After only a few seconds, I heard the first screams. Some were crying bloody tears or spitting blood, and everyone yelled at the clique to stop.

There was a substantially downward force, but my body had become accustomed to it and was able to fight back.

All over my body, I felt like warm forces were engulfing me. From what I could see, this fabric was designed to withstand tremendous pressure. My body came up on its own, and I found myself amid the mound, surrounded by the downed novice. I had hoped to fool everyone into thinking I, too, was having trouble with the gravitational pull.

At least five minutes went by during the huddle. As the earth's gravitational pull weakened, my friends and I waited a while before getting up.

The grays in Avi's eyes blinked at me. Of course, she has psychic abilities, but I know she has many more.

"Healers!" Professor Zow called loudly. Her voice confirmed my sanity and declared the end of our struggle. The next thing I heard was the footsteps of the healers coming closer.

The uniformed students ran. Most of them have purple and green eyes, like faes. Events moved quickly as I just stood there and reaped the scrutinizing stares of those around me.

My heart pounded against my ribcage. I started to panic as they started calling each novice's name.

"Seer concentration, Avi Beatrix Suarez!" Those in attendance applauded, particularly those with gray eyes.

"Hybrid concentration, Monique Sumouz!"

I started hearing names. Each focus stood on the elevated mound. We stayed on that big rock until just the two of us left.

Standing next to me was a tall, fair man with a strong chin and dark brown eyes. He's not frightened in the least. To my surprise, he was laughing.

"Cool. I'm not the only one that feels this way." With a grin, the man, who appeared to be from a prominent clan, stated.

I took a swallow. I'm not sure if my eyes changed hue, but based on what the man in front of me said, he wasn't alone.

This was bound to happen. In my thoughts, I could still hear Myra's voice.

"Deadlocks, Oswin Haviet Leviste and Stella Suarez!"
