A sigh of relief

I woke up with the most terrible headache, my head felt like it got hit with a hammer, maybe because I got hit on the head with something heavy, I didn't get to see what hit me. I slowly sat up placing one hand on my head, something felt wrong. I used both hands to gently feel my head, my hair was gone. My hair was cut so low, thankfully it wasn't skin. "A new look" I said.

"Your finally awake" someone said. I traced the voice to someone sitting on a chair beside the bed. "You? What am I doing here and what happened to my hair?" I asked angrily looking towards his direction. I don't know why I suddenly felt the emotion of rage, after all he was the one who snitched us to the principal. I thought seniors are meant to be chill, but he's not. "You got hit on the head and went under operation, they had to cut your hair cause it was refusing them to perform the operation. Now that you're awake I can finally leave the four walls of this room and this hospital. Not even a thank you came out from that mouth of yours", he said angrily getting up from his chair, but he didn't raise his voice.

"I'm sorry, Thank you.", I said. I felt so guilty, even if I was angry for what he did, he did bring to the hospital. At that he waited till I woke up, thank you isn't enough. He looked at me for a while, then breath a long sigh, more like sighing out his frustration. "Sure. I am not staying long, I've already spent a week in this hospital", he said folding his newspaper. Who still reads newspapers, how old was he?, I asked myself. So I've been here for a week, but I don't remember anything after going unconscious. "Why was I here for a week?" I asked. "You've been unconscious for a week " he gave a short reply. "What do you mean I've been out for a week?" I asked, i still didn't understand, so I didn't wake up till today?. "You've been out the whole of a week and you just woke up, like right now...do you understand now?" he said with a look of, do you not understand a word coming out of my mouth. He looked down at his watch, then said, "take care". Before I could ask or say anything else,he left.

•••Preston'S POV

It's been 7 days and Audrey hasn't shown sign of waking up yet, I'd sit in the hospital ward just watching her, waiting for her to make the slightest movements, but nothing happened and I was beginning to get a bit worried. What will I explain to the principal if she dies, what light would the school be painted in?. A junior student died in school premises, the cleaners did keep the flower pot well. I was so lost in thought when finally she squinted her eyes, I felt like an anchor got lifted of my chest, i could finally breathe well. After a few minutes of stirring up in her sleep, she sat up. She placed her hand on her head at first, the felt her head. "A new look", she said.

"Your finally awake", i said. She turned to look at me before the expression on her face went sour, I knew what ever came out of that mouth wouldn't be polite. "You? What am I doing here and what happened to my hair?" She asked angrily, as I expected. "You got hit on the head and went under operation, they had to cut your hair cause it was refusing them to perform the operation. Now that you're awake I can finally leave the four walls of this room and this hospital. Not even a thank you came out from that mouth of yours",i said angrily getting up from his chair. I lost my cool, I felt suffocated, frustrated, all in all. Like was it easy, juggling classes and hospital. Counting the days as she didn't wake up, I smell like hospital. And now she's awake, instead of her to be grateful, she's shouting at me. "I'm sorry, Thank you.", she said. So this girl knows how to say sorry and thank you,I just stared at her cause what can i say. She's really a handful,I thought breathing out a long sigh. "Sure. I am not stay long, I've already spent a week in this hospital", I said folding my newspaper. "Why was I here for a week?", she asked. Because we wanted to keep you here, lord!, I screamed in my head. "You've been unconscious for a week ", I replied. "What do you mean I've been out for a week?", she asked. Someone should just shoot me, I thought. "You've been out the whole of a week and you just woke up, like right now...do you understand now?", i said slowly looking at her, the hit to the head must have done alot. I looked down at his watch, shoot ill be late. "take care", I said rushing out.

I rushed out of the hospital, a few steps away I saw Susan holding a bouquet of flower walking towards me. So many flowers, for such a sour girl. "How is she?" she asked, I didn't reply I just looked at the bouquet. "Please is Audrey alright, has she finally woken up?" she asked persistent and sad. Susan offered to take shifts both in her turn and not, she took a liking to her, I can tell she's really worried. "She's awake", I said. She let out a sigh of relief, "Thank God" she said. "Where are the others?", I asked. "They both had something to do, I was free so i thought why not spend it with her", she said smiling. I just looked at her, what could I say.

"Well I'm leaving, I've got somewhere to be " I said rushing away. "I wonder what happened that got him rushing", I heard Susan say.

"I'm already late for my meeting" I said as I got into my car and drove off.
