Chapter 16- Mind invasion

Natalie made her way to the school clinic. There wasn't much people there yet which was an advantage on her side. The tests were conducted by different instructors working in the medical field. Knowing that, Natalie became more nervous. It didn't take long before she was invited into one of the numerous test rooms . Once she was in, she was astounded on seeing the person who was going to conduct the test. It wasn't an instructor like she had expected rather Davis, one of the four famous seniors and the brother to Derek was there putting on a long white coat. She was completely gobsmacked.

"we meet again. It seems like we're fated." he said giving her a bedazzling smile. "is Ms Hallows here for the test?".

Of course she was. Why would she be there if it wasn't for the stupid test. But she didn't say this out loud. She just nodded and he smilingly offered her a seat which she soundlessly accepted. Natalie looked around the room and her eyes fell on the many test tubes which were arranged neatly on a table. Some has blood samples in them, probably from the people before her. A few where empty too.

Natalie fiddled with the little red gem round her neck, trying to calm her nerves. At the same time, Davies turned just in time to see her playing with the necklace. For some unknown reason his eyes narrowed at this sight. After a few seconds, Davies took out a syringe and approached Natalie. Her face became pale. On her way here, she had braced herself, mumbling all sorts of encouraging words but now ... all resolve seemed to have flown out the window.

"Are you okay?" Davies asked, his voice pulling her back to reality.

"Yes, yes... I'm fine",she stuttered slightly, her heart beating rapidly within her ribcage. It was so loud she thought he could hear it. He tilted his head with a smile and said, "You're afraid of needles aren't you". Natalie gulped hard, not daring to say a word to this senior in front of her. Definitely, she'll have to take the test or she would be kicked out of the school.

Davies flashed a small sinister smile. it appeared like he didn't have a choice.

"let's try something. It's an old trick and we wouldn't have to stay here the entire day",he said, "take a deep breath" . Natalie did as he instructed rather timidly. He took her wrist into his hand and continued," Now, shut your eyes and try to calm your heart and mind".

Natalie took deep breaths to steady her heart. She tried to get rid of the random thoughts in her mind. A moment later, she felt like she was in a trance. A really peaceful one as a sense of relief washed through her mind.

10 seconds...

Natalie felt a slight pain invade her head. She immediately snapped out of her trance like state giving him a perplexed look. She didn't notice he had pulled the needle out.

"It's all done" his voice rang. He handed her a piece of cotton to stop the little bleeding on her wrist. Natalie on the other hand couldn't believe she had scaled through just like that. The entire process didn't take more than a minute and above all, she didn't feel the slightest discomfort. Well, except for the slight pain she had felt in her head towards the end. She wondered what method he had used.

"Is there anything else I need to do?", Natalie asked

"No we are done here. And you passed just fine"

"Oh, okay. Then I'll leave",she stood up abruptly not intending to stay for a second, opening the door to leave.

"Ms Hallows...". Natalie stopped in her tracks and turned back .

"Anything else... senior?"

"Aren't you being a bit too heartless? You didn't even thank me for helping you", Davies said with his never fading smile. Natalie's face turned red with embarrassment. Of course she didn't forget, after all he had helped her through this section though she didn't know what strange method he used. She just didn't know how to as she was apprehensive towards this senior who was one of the four famous students in Mourline.

"How about you treat me to lunch at the cafeteria one of these days. I'll tell you when I'm free".

" O... okay ",she said, smiling wryly before running out. As soon as she left, the smile on Davies face fell. His eyes darkened as he drove into deep thoughts. What happened a few minutes ago had left him quite surprised. He had used the mind invasion technique which was a demon ability to try to pry Natalie's mind but had unexpectedly met an unbelievably strong barrier that had stopped him from probing further. Mind invasion was a unique ability all demons had. Only that it could be used to scout a victims last memory before death. But due to the twins special status, it was possible to search memories even when the other party isn't in danger due to their high mental strength. He had wanted to probe her for any memories attached to the red gem round her neck as he had found it a bit peculiar but the result was unexpected which had also caused the small backlash in Natalie's mind. A normal person wouldn't be able to place a barrier in their mind not to talk of one as strong as Natalie's. He was becoming more curious about her. This junior student was really interesting.

He finally pushed back his thoughts when another student came in to have his blood drawn.
