Chapter 19- Half blood

Derek slowly halted his steps. His midnight black eyes gradually turned into a mesmerizing shade of deep blue, glinting brightly in the dim room. Added to the sudden change of his eye colour was dark mist seeping out from the pores of his body. The two scavengers who were now fully awake were startled, their expression changing from surprise to that of dread. The professor, Donna and Davies didn't so much as bat their eye at this changes. It appeared that they were already used to it. The appearance of a half blood demon!.

The mist speedily left Derek's body and gathered together. Flashes of blue light crackled within the dark mist and when the mist cleared, a black object, half shaped like a sickle was revealed. The mist had formed a dark Scythe!.

Malicious dark aura from the Scythe filled the entire place and the scavengers who had already lost more than half their strength kneeled and groaned in pain , sweat trickling down their bodies as pressure ,heavy as boulders pressed down on them. His eyes blue and cold, Derek cast his gaze on one of the scavengers, Steven and said indifferently, "if you'd give up your other accomplices, I can grant you an easy demise". Being stared at, Steven felt a deathly chill worse than the pain from the mistletoe poisoning run down his spine. He couldn't speak and instead cowered and shook his head unknowingly.

There was a momentary silence before Derek broke it with a single ," Okay ". As soon as the word left his lips, the Scythe which had been hovering in midair as though waiting for an order from it's master made it's move. It shot towards Steven at lightning speed, carrying with it a blinding blue light and piercing through the scavenger's head. Immediately, he was engulfed in blue flames. The scavenger howled and wailed loudly in pain. His demonic body began disintegrating, turning into fine dust particles before it gradually dissipated into the air. There was no trace of him. Not even his bones were spared.

The other scavenger, Renee was in shock having seen how Steven had vanished in a matter of seconds without even putting up resistance. She began moving backwards till her back hit the hard wall. There was no escape. She shook her head, stammering incoherently

"p-please, d-d-don't ". Derek ignored the pathetic cries and pleas of the scavenger. The Scythe once again flew with a _whoosh_ , piercing her heart. And just like the first scavenger, her body went up in blue flames as she shrieked loudly. A few seconds later, the dust like particles which was aftermath of being incinerated by the devilishly sinister flame became one with the air.

The Scythe having completed it's job crumbled and reverted back to dark mist which went into Derek's body once more. He left the cell and reappeared right next to his brother. The eyes which had been blue had regained their initial black colour.

"Ah!... it's so late, I haven't had dinner" Davies exclaimed while putting on his usual polite smile like nothing happened, breaking the silence in the somewhat stiff room. Derek glanced at him and turned to the professor, "since we're done here, we'll be going back". Emmett nodded to his words. There was nothing else to do, so it was natural they went back. The two brothers left the Gourd to retire for the night. Neither Emmett nor his assistant Donna said anything when the two boys left. But they were sure of one thing. Half blood demons were a truly terrifying existence.

Natalie woke up the next day feeling a bit lethargic. The exam was gone and she didn't feel the need to hurry on with her morning routine. Hence, she dawdled around before putting her room in order and heading out together with Kira. By now, Natalie and Kira had become very close. Excluding the times when they both needed to go for their various classes, they were mostly together. On their way to the Cafeteria, two school security men were moving properties from one of the rooms along the hallways in the girl's dormitory. Some students stood aside watching and whispering. It was Renee Crimpson's room. The two girls didn't linger. Since neither of them was close to the girl in question, it was no use probing.

In the cafeteria...

Kira came back carrying her breakfast tray. Since Natalie didn't feel hungry, particularly because of her not-too-good mood, she handed her a cup of her favourite milk flavoured yogurt, something that had almost become a sort of morning ritual. Natalie thankfully took it and watched Natalie dig into her food enthusiastically. Seeing Kira wolf down her food at an astonishingly fast rate, she couldn't help but marvel secretly. After being friends for a while she already knew of Kira's unusually voracious appetite but she still couldn't keep up.

Kira blushed red when she saw Natalie staring at her, "I'm sorry. Can't help eating so much since I was busy yesterday and had little for dinner last night", she said, her two cheeks bulging. Natalie giggled, her mood becoming better. She found Kira's face covered in thick glasses and stuffed with food cute. It was at this moment that the two felt a pair of eyes on them. They turned and saw Leila glaring at them or rather...at Natalie. Kira lowered her head and said, " seriously. What's up with her?. Do you owe her in your past life or something ".

Natalie shrugged and sighed inwardly. She really couldn't make a head out of Kira's dislike towards her. Obviously, the wronged party the first time they met was her. She felt that the girl seriously needed to get her attitude fixed. The both ignored Leila who was continuously throwing glances.

Leila began walking towards them with her breakfast tray on seeing that they didn't pay her any attention. Natalie saw her lips pull up in a slightly sinister smile and had a bad feeling. Leila got close to their table and the next second, she stumbled and let out a cry. Her breakfast tray tilted with it's content almost spilling.

Natalie narrowed her eyes. This time, Leila wasn't planning to cause an accident but spill her trays content on her. She dodged slightly to the side to prevent it from happening. By now, half of the people in the cafeteria had their eyes on them. Leila stood up and furiously turned to glare at Natalie when she realized she had seen through her plan. Her eyes red and glistening with fake tears she asked, "how dare you trip me?". Natalie was speechless at this turn of event. Kira, who had also witnessed Leila's petty trick was instantly red with anger.

"What do you mean "trip you"?. You obviously tripped yourself and still blame others. So shameless", Kira snorted contemptuously

"You...", Leila's face was twisted so much in anger not expecting Kira to retort savagely. She moved her hand holding a soda can and splashed the drink on Kira's face. Natalie's face turned ashen and Kira was thrown into a state of shock.

Leila smiled satisfactory watching liquids drip from Kira's glasses down her clothes, making them wet. The damned girl had been taught a lesson.

"think twice before...",she started but couldn't finish as she felt a stinging slap fall on her cheek.
