Vina's POV.
Sir Selk was splendid as always. He managed to destroy the target the university themselves prepared with one shot and draw the eyes of the people towards him in no time at all.
All though, I truly wish the University hadn't paired him with any female students. I don't wish for any more rivals... I mean I don't want anyone becoming a distraction for my dear Sir Selk. Why, if any one of those female students try to lay their unworthy mitts on him I would.
(Chaclang!) (Break!)
Lira: "Lady Vina, please control yourself. You have just broken your Hate Bracelet. IF I didn't have a few Hate bracelets on hand, everyone that was between you and those girls in Sir Selk's team would have fainted, or worst. We even have Ms. Allice here with us. Have you forgotten what almost befell her? "
Lira chided me after I broke the Hate Bracelet I was wearing because of my over flowing killing intent.
Vina: "M-my apologies Lira, Ms. Allice. I promise to do my utmost to hold my jealousy back."
Allice: "It's okay, Ms. Vina. I know you're just thinking of Dr. Selk's well being."
Ms. Allice said in a truly sympathetic manner after I apologized to her. Ms. Allice has managed to be a refreshing existence to be near to in trying times like these. Her kind smile washing away the shameful feeling of jealousy that I continue to have. However, as I sulk from the panic that I almost caused, I saw Sir Selk and his team make their way off of the stage.
Vina: "Ms. Allice, it would appear that Sir Selk is on a break from the exam. I heard that there will be a break that will last till noon. Sir Selk will have two hours to spare. Do you wish to meet up with him along side me?"
I asked Ms. Allice.
Allice: "I-Is it okay? We might be bothering him."
Ms. Allice sheepishly replied. Her face a myriad of conflicting emotions.
Vina: "Sir Selk being bothered by our presence? Nonsense! We are the girls that love dear Sir Selk the most. There's no way will be bothering him. Now, let's go to him."
Lira: "Now, hold on a sec...H-hey! Don't pull me, my lady."
Lira seemed to be saying something, but I was too excited to see Sir Selk again that I just grabbed Ms. Allice and Lira along with me. I then turned myself, Ms. Allice, and Lira into light particles to quickly catch up to Sir Selk and Co.
Selk's POV
I was walking along with my new teammates while discussing the strategy that we will use to pass our next test, when suddenly, an intense light appeared right in front of us. I had to squint my eye a little, but when the light dissipate, the image of Allice, Vina, and Lira could be seen standing before us.
Vina: "Hello there, Sir Selk. Ms. Allice and I saw that you're in the middle of your exam break and wanted to say hi. Oh, my. I see you've made some new friends. Would you care to introduce them to us?"
Vina said while forcing an unnatural smile onto herself. She was probably jealous of my new female teammates and is using Allice as an excuse to confront them. This girl can be a real handful at times. I even see Lira staring daggers at her Lady Vina. She definitely didn't want to be here.
Allice: "I-I'm really sorry, Dr. Selk. I hope we're not bothering you. I-I just wanted to tell you congratulations on how good you did in the exam."
Allice stammered out an adorable apology before she congratulated me on my performance. I guess Vina's impulses have there good points as well.
Selk: "Thank you, Allice and Vina. I'm glad you liked our performance. So, let me introduce you guys to my new teammates. This is Bismart, Alfred, Valeria, Sakanari, and Abriela. Guy's, these are Vina and her attendant Lira, and my apprentice, Allice."
I introduced Allice, Vina, and Lira to my new comrades. However, it appears that my new teammates notice the elephant in the room when they saw Vina. Except for Abriela, everyone were opening and closing their mouths like fish out of water as they starred at the Hero of Light.
Bismart: "N-n-n-no way. Y-y-you're Lady Vina! Humanity's champion. The Light Hero that ended the nearly ten year war with the demons."
(FYI, the Human VS Demon war started five years before Selk and the Other's were drafted to fight in the war.)
Vina: "Wah? Are people calling me humanity's champion now? Dear me, Sir Selk, what have the people been doing, referring to me in such an embarrassing nomenclature. I might become the next Sarah with these numerous monikers."
Said Vina as she massages her forehead with her right hand out of annoyance after finding out that Sarah isn't the only one that's getting embarrassing nick names. Once my teammates learned of Vina's identity, they all got on one knee and bowed before her. With the exception of Abriela, who stood in place, shaking as she gripped her staff tightly.
It would appear that the demons still hold a grudge towards the heroes that cost them their victory. Good thing she doesn't know that I'm one of those heroes, otherwise we might have a hard time working with one another if she found out.
Bismart: "I-if it's not too rude to ask, Lady Vina, w-what might be your connection to our dear friend Selk here?"
The others nodded along and Bismart asked what might my relations with Vina is. Vina how ever frowned from Bismart's words, which in turn made my new teammate's complexion become a pale blue.
Vina: "You dare to address Sir Selk without honorifics? I will have you know, he is one of, ugfff..."
Selk: "I was one of the healers in her platoon in the Human VS Demon war."
I covered Vina's mouth before she disclosed the fact that I was a hero. I then whispered to her ears that if she told anyone about me being one of the heroes of legend I would tie her up in Dryad vines and leave her dangling from the ceiling. I'm not sure if it was just my imagination, but I swear Vina made an ecstatic facial expression that took me a back after my threat, but she did remain silent afterwards so I just ignored it.
Valeria: "Wow, Selk. You're a war veteran? Why didn't you mention that in our introduction? Can you tell me more about your tours later?"
I noticed that Vina's bracelet was about to break after what Valeria said, so I grabbed her left shoulder and whispered to her in a gentle voice, "If you leave now with Allice and Lira, I'll cook you your favorite wyvern stake for dinner tonight."
Vina: "Well, I think we've bothered you long enough, Sir Selk. Time to go, Ms. Allice and Lira. Oh, and Sir Selk, I'll be waiting for tonight's meal."
Vina said as she grabbed Allice and Lira. They then turned into light particles and light speed travelled back to their seats. Once she was gone, my team mates were able to finally stand up and asked me about Vina.
Bismart: "By the Gods, Selk. Why didn't you tell me you were acquainted with such a famous person. There's even talks that her father will be the next king because of her accomplishments. I have to meet her again. Please Selk."
Bismart pleaded to me as he shakes my shoulders.
Selk: "She'll be studying here too, so that's probably a given, but if you mean you want to get close to her, then we'll have to come out on top of this exam. After all, She, Sarah, and Gilbert will probably be all on the top class."
Bismart: "Y-you're right! All will need to do is be the number one team and we'll be able to brush shoulders with the three of the legendary heroes."
Valeria: "That's right! And, with a veteran like Selk with us, that leader board will sure to have our name on it."
Bismart and Valeria started to make a self assured pose with their hands on their hips, laughing as they do. However, Abriela suddenly asked me a question with a serious look on her face.
Abriela: "D-did you use that arrow attack in the war?"
Oh. So she want's to know if I killed demons in the mass. I guess it would be difficult to work with a person that killed your kind, weather they be a hero or just a regular soldier.
Selk: "No, I didn't. True I did join in the fight from time to time, but I never used the explosive arrows since it was too dangerous."
Abriela: "S-so, you have killed demons back then, right."
Selk: "It was war. I did what I had to do to save the people that needed me."
I tried to avoid her real question by telling the truth that I didn't use the explosive arrows, but she asked a more direct question that I didn't want to lie to her face about. At first, I would heal the demonic soldiers that were cut down and just capture them as P.O.W.s to avoid killing them. However, those demonic soldiers would either just be executed, sold as slaves, or escape and kill soldiers on the human's side. By the end of the war, I stopped healing the demonic soldiers and let them die an honorable death on the battlefield.
Once I've convinced my teammates to focus on formulating a plan on passing the exam, we finally started working on an effective way to take down a golem. Abriela however just stayed quietly standing in place while the rest of us talked. I would feel her looking at me from time to time, but I didn't want to meet her gaze, in fear she would be looking at me with contempt in her eyes.
before the clock struck noon, we were ready for whatever the university throws at us. We returned to our original place in the colosseum, but now, there are only eight teams with us. It was said that the other teams couldn't produce the minimum amount of damage to the target needed to advance to the next part of the exam and were automatically assigned to the lower class.
There were students that reportedly went ballistic and demanded that they be given the chance to do the second part of the exam on account that this rule was never disclosed to them. However, one of the head instructors stepped in and said "Do you think your enemy will give you a warning when they attack? We purposely didn't mention this rule to see who among you would slack off on the first part. We are truly disappointed to see so many unworthy of the top spots."
Most of the students accepted the decision of the University heads, but there were some that tried to threaten the heads with political retribution. They were knocked out and taken away to the university's holding cells to give them time to cool off.
The earth magic teachers changed the stage once again to just a four sided wall at least five feet thick on each side, two stories tall, and fifty feet in diameter. Each team will take their turn fighting their golems, and the two teams that sustains the least amount of injuries will be promoted to the top class. They even said that the teams that managed to destroy the golem or render it incapacitated will win a special secret prize.
We were re-assigned as team one, making us the first group to fight in the second part of the entrance exam. My team and I entered the examination room, and was greeted by a mage with a purple robe.
"Welcome, children. I hope all of you are ready for what's about to com."
The purple robed old man said with a grin. The old mage before us is a tall well built man in probably his fifties. He has a slicked back grey hair and carrying a black staff with a brown gem on it's tip, hinting he is a master tier earth mage. I further confirmed the mage's magical skills by using my Great Elf Appraisal and found that my first assumption was right.
Before we could take our stances, the old mage constructed a magic circle one the ground, and a massive golem emerged from it. The golem towered above us at around sixteen feet tall and is uniformly green in color.
I barked out orders to my teammates to get into our planned formation, and they moved to do so. Sakanari and Alfred as vanguards, Bismart and Valeria under suppression magic, and Abriela and I as heavy support magic.
At my order, Alfred and Sakanari charged at the hulking man made monstrosity without hesitation. The golem tried to move in to stump on the approaching Alfred, but Bismart's Hurricane Cutter and Valeria's Heaven's Arrow simultaneously hit the golem's head, forcing it to stagger back, unable to prevent Alfred and Saknari's incoming attacks.
Alfred and Sakanari struck the golem's kneecaps with their weapons laced with magic. Their attacks crushed the golem's artificial joins, forcing it on it's knees. Finally, it was mine and Abriela's turn. Abriela activated fire fire ball and shot it directly at the golem's chest. The blast from her fire ball partially exposed the golems magic core, giving me and my explosive arrow the perfect target.
I let lose the explosive arrow after making sure that Alfred and Saknari was far enough away. I lessen the explosive liquids on the arrow head this time, but the explosion was still strong enough to not only punch a hole into the golem's chest, it also blew it's head clean off.
I watched as the large stone head of the golem flew towards Abriela's direction. She was too busy looking at me to notice the on coming threat. Once she noticed the golem's head coming at her, all she could do was say "Huh?" I had no choice but to step in. Even if she's a demon, that impact might still kill her. I instantly constructed my Lightning wasp boots and princess carried her to safety.
When the golem's head landed, it made a crater on where Abriela was standing. Thank the Gods I made it on time. I then asked Abriela if she's fine, to which she nodded silently. I was relieved to know she was safe, but as I put her down though, I could somehow feel some sort of killing intent from outside the walls of the examination room.
