Halloween (I)

~.~.~

A/N: Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I'm writing a second book alongside this one. It's a VRMMO novel called MMORPG: Transcendent, so check it out and let me know your thoughts.

Also, I plan to make this story medium paced. I was thinking around 20-50 chapters per year at Hogwarts. This first year would be a little on the longer side, just a heads up.

That's all, thanks for your continued support.

~31st of October, 1991.~

'The troll incident still hasn't happened yet, and I can't remember when or how it happens.'

Gavin thought as he looked at the book in front of him blankly. He was sitting at a table in the library and had a faint uneasy expression on his face.

Now that he knew that things may be vastly different from how they were in the actual plot, he was worried that the golden trio may not be able to escape unscathed from the encounter with the troll.

'I'll just ask Aelia to patrol the corridors. She should be able to sense any magical creature within the castle instantly…so, let's just relax.' he mused, calming himself.

Gavin didn't plan on interfering too much in the plot until the third year. The reason for this was because he didn't want to make Voldermort come back to life earlier than normal, especially when he had yet to implement the elementary parts of The Magic Series Codex.

Simply put, he was just buying time.

In the end, he decided to monitor the progress of the plot as intricately as possible and make sure nothing goes astray for now.

"You alright Gav? You look a bit off today…"

Opposite him, Daphne asked concernedly. The quartet were all currently spending their lunch break studying in the library. Estelle was sitting beside Daphne, and Brandon beside Gavin.

"Yeah you look out of it." Estelle chipped in, looking at Gavin as well.

"Doesn't he always look out of it?" Brandon added, chuckling.

Estelle and Daphne just rolled their eyes at him.

Gavin smiled seeing this, "Yeah, I'm alright, was just thinking about Arithmancy" he lied, making something up.

"Oh…you know, I'm still quite surprised you're actually doing that while still in your first year. It's unheard of!" Daphne praised.

"Yeah I agree, it's honestly pretty impressive mate." Brandon said, nodding his head in approval.

"Not as impressive as his magic and dueling. None of us have yet to come close to beating him." Estelle said, annoyedly.

"Oi, what's this? A Gavin bootlicking convention?" Gavin asked, raising his eyebrows at the three of them.

"Unfortunately not…though you would love that, wouldn't you?" Estelle replied sarcastically, smirking at Gavin.

Brandon and Daphne laughed.

"Well I honestly can't deny that." Gavin chuckled, guiltily.

"Also, I think it's time for Charms so we better get going." He added, looking at the clock on the wall of the library.

"Yeah he's right, we should probably get going." Daphne said, in agreement with Gavin.

The quartet then left the library to go to Charms class; it was held jointly with Gryffindor. Today, Professor Flitwick taught them the levitating charm, a charm that Gavin and Estelle had already mastered thoroughly.

Unsurprisingly, the class went similarly to the way it did in the plot, the only difference being Gavin and Estelle's instant casting of the spell, which garnered Flitwick's endless praise as well as 20 points for Slytherin.

Soon, it was dinner time and the quartet made their way over to the great hall. Brandon was over the moon because of the Halloween feast they were about to partake in.

[Hey Aelia, you there?] Gavin asked as he sat down at the Slytherin long table.

[Hmm? Yeah, what's up] Aelia yawned, as if just waking up from a nap.

[I have a favor to ask] Gavin replied.

[Ask away..]

[Can you monitor the corridors and bathroom during the feast tonight? Inform me right away, if you see anything out of the ordinary]

[Yeah I can do that, but why though? What's happening?]

[Let's just say I have a hunch that something…magical…would be happening tonight.] Gavin said mysteriously.

He wasn't lying though, he had been monitoring everything up till now and there was nothing out of the ordinary. He mused that it was probably today because he remembered how often things happened on holidays in the movies; his intuition was constantly hinting him that it would be on Halloween.

[Alright, I'll let you know if I see anything]

[Right…thanks] Gavin said, ending their conversation.

Tonight, the great hall was adorned in numerous halloween decorations; from pumpkins, bats, to fake cobwebs, everything was present.

The castle ghosts were having a field day as well, repeatedly phasing in and out of the walls. Students were all chatting brightly and laughing, waiting for Dumbledore to commence the feast.

"Say, why are you covered in shackles and blood? What on earth did you do when you were alive?" Brandon asked the Bloody Baron, who was seated beside Malfoy a few seats away, curiously.

The Bloody Baron turned to face Brandon with a deadpan expression.

"Do you really want to know?" He said ominously, with an evil smile.

Brandon gulped, "Y-Yeah." he responded, stuttering.

"I was….A SERIAL KILLER." The Bloody Baron screamed and flew towards Brandon with his arms outstretched.

"AARGH!" Brandon yelled, scared for his life.

Everyone at the Slytherin table laughed loudly, including Gavin; Brandon looked like his soul had just left his body, causing people to tap him to wake him up from his stupor.

By the time Brandon was brought back to reality, Dumbledore had appeared and stood up to commence the Halloween feast.

After he clapped his hands, thousands of bats fluttered from the ceilings and walls and flew along each of the four house long tables in low black clouds, causing the candles in the pumpkin to stutter; a sumptuous feast then appeared as the bats passed, making the students drool.

Like that, the feast started. The hall got loud quickly, as everyone was talking amongst themselves. Surprisingly, even Estelle was no different as she was talking a lot and eating like there was no tomorrow.

Gavin chuckled seeing her, though the entire time he was scanning the Gryffindor table, looking for Hermione but to no avail.

[Anything yet?] he asked Aelia, as he chomped down on a chicken drumstick.

[Yes actually, I was just about to tell you. I'm currently on the third floor, but I can sense what feels like a troll near you on the first floor, which is unexpected. What is a troll doing here??]

[Ask later, where's it heading?] Gavin said, calmly dropping his chicken drumstick and wiping his lips.

[The girls bathroom, I just teleported beside it.]

[Alright, just w-] Gavin was about to instruct Aelia on how to proceed when Professor Quirrel came barging to the great hall screaming.

"TROLL IN THE DUNGEONS, TROLL IN THE DUNGEONS!!" He screamed, frightenedly before passing out and falling down on the floor.

Pandemonium ensued immediately after, with students screaming and standing up, trying to disperse to god knows where.

"QUIET!!" Dumbledore bellowed loudly as he stood up, silencing the hall immediately.

Brandon and Daphne looked scared out of their wits, but Estelle had a confused expression on her face.

"Isn't he supposed to be the Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher? He can't take care of the troll?" She scoffed, looking at Gavin.

Gavin chuckled. She had a good point.

"He's useless and a joke of a teacher. Honestly, I'm quite surprised you and Bran take his lessons so seriously. I see it as a waste of time." Gavin replied, as-a-matter-of-factly.

Estelle just kept frowning, seemingly in thought.

Dumbledore then announced for the prefects to lead the students back to their dormitories. Gavin peeled off from the Slytherin group after they left the hall, making sure that no one was watching him.

[Teleport me there now, Aelia.] He said, as he walked into a corridor and vanished into thin air a few moments later.

He appeared right outside the girls bathroom and could see the legs of the troll just entering it.

[Right, Aelia, go monitor the rest of the castle; let nothing escape your eyes.] Gavin instructed, looking at the blue eyed cat randomly sitting in the corridor.

[Sure, you have a lot of explaining to do after this.] Aelia said, as she vanished.

Gavin immediately took out his wand and cast a disillusionment charm on himself, which made him turn invisible and blend in with the environment.

He waited until he heard Ron and Harry's footsteps and followed them as they entered the bathroom.

As he watched them, his mind started to revolve rapidly, thinking of the best ways to dispatch the troll. Trolls had high spell resistance, so only powerful spells could really inflict damage on them and Gavin's most powerful spell right now, was the blasting curse, Confringo, which he was able to learn so easily due to his physique and natural affinity with fire.

Because of this, Gavin decided to simply use his flames to incinerate the troll; he could explain that easily, compared to a first year capable of using a powerful curse like Confringo.

"Hermione!" Harry yelled as soon as he saw the troll approaching her, destroying sinks as it walked. The troll looked like it did in the movies, with pale green skin and an oversized belly; it was holding a giant club in its hands and stomped loudly.

Hermione was sitting in the corner of the bathroom, with her hair disheveled. She looked extremely frightened and noticed Harry running towards the troll. She yelled at him to stay back but Harry didn't listen; he took out his wand, and charged straight towards the troll, attempting to jump on its back.

As Harry ran for the troll, Ron threw metal pipes at it, trying to get it away from Hermione. However, this just aggravated the troll and it roared, turned around and swung its club full force at Harry in a fit of rage.

By a stroke of luck, Harry dodged the first swing narrowly and fell back on his butt. Once the troll saw that it missed, it got confused for a second but became angry again once it noticed Harry on the floor.

The troll roared once more and immediately swung its club menacingly towards Harry who was still trying to get up.

Seeing this, Ron panicked, pulled out his wand and casted the first spell that came to his mind, which was the levitation charm. The spell worked this time, and caused the troll's club to levitate above its head, confusing it once more.

However, things were going to continue deviating from the plot, as the club fell down beside the troll instead of on top of its head. The troll was stunned for a moment, but quickly recovered and grabbed his club, attempting to end the charade once and for all.

The troll charged towards Harry, who was now standing beside Ron and swung its club at them both, intending to kill them in one fell swoop. Harry and Ron looked scared out of their wits; Harry was about to yell any spell he could think of on the spot when he heard a calm, and somewhat lazy voice sound.

"Confringo"
