Prologue : Who am I?

"Precious and rare. They can't break you. That's why, you are a Diamond."

It was time for 'The Selection' to begin. I hit my 18th year last month.

The world had changed quite drastically from the way it'd been back then.

We were sitting at the assembly hall. My dad was looking at me, his optimism radiating through me.

"He's definitely a Sanguine", I sighed, smiling a little.

My little brother couldn't sit at one place.

My mom was calm, even though today was the big day. She'd always been like that.

"How'd she end up here, anyways?"

She'd always seemed like a Phlegmatic to me.

I looked around. So many children my age were present. All there for 'The Selection.'

It was evident I'd be a member of Sanguine. I belonged to a family of Sanguines.

Our world consisted of four Cliques. Sanguine, Choleric, Phlegmatic and Melancholic. The modern society accepted the four Cliques equally, and perceived them differently.

"Ezekiel." My name was called out. I gulped as I got up. I was nervous.

A guide was waiting for me at the end of the hallway. I followed him as we walked through corridors till we reached a door. He opened it for me.

He wished me luck as he turned his back towards me.

I entered the room. A woman was waiting for me. My cheeks turned pink as she smiled at me.

"She's pretty", I thought to myself.

She had Hazel eyes, her hair was tied up in a bun and she wore pretty simple clothes.

"A Phlegmatic", I thought to myself.

"What's your name?" She asked me.

"Ezekiel. How about yours?"

"I am Britley. It's a pleasure to meet you", she replied.

"Same here."

She asked me to sit down as she took out a syringe from under her desk.

"What's this for?"

"You'll know soon enough."

The needle pierced through my skin as she injected it. I felt a sharp pain through my body, numbness following it. My vision started blurring.

Britley was still in front of me. But the world around me other than her was changing. My whole skin was burning, as if on fire. I could feel a breeze blowing through my hair, as water flowing through inside my body. I was feeling chilly at the same time.

It stopped after a few minutes, but felt like ages to me.

I slumped back on my chair as I looked at her.

"What was that?"

She wasn't saying anything.

"What's my result?" I asked her.

She pursed her lips.

"You didn't have a stable temperature. No, let me rephrase it, you didn't have a temperature at all."

"What?" I couldn't believe it.

"You have all the four traits. You'll become a 'sacrifice' if they know a person like you exists."

"What do you mean by sacrifice?"

"I can't tell you that. All I can say is that you are 'Disparate'."

"So, what're we gonna do about me?"

"You'll be a member of Sanguine, and that's how you're going to go about it, alright?"

I nodded my head. As I started to go outside, Britley called out to me.

"Be careful. Don't let them know."

I looked back at her and nodded.

I reached the handle of the door and pulled it towards me.

"Who am I?" I thought to myself. I repeated the question over and over in my head as I reached the hall.

My parents were waiting for me, my little brother waving at me. I faked a smile at them.

I went and sat in my seat.

"How was the result?" They asked eagerly.

It sounded almost as if they were worried.

"It's Sanguine." I smiled as I lied.

"Of course! We knew it!" My father said with confidence.

My brother took my hand and shaked it.

I took a look at my mother. She wasn't buying it. It was almost as if she seemed suspicious of me.

I was confused.

"Why? Can she tell I'm lying?" I asked myself.

I looked at her again. She was smiling at me.

"I'm seeing things", I sighed to myself.

Different personas would undergo different training phases. But I had multiple personas. I couldn't think straight.

I was going into Sanguine. Sanguine was my result.

But it was only a part of my result.

Two Truths, One Lie.

That was how she perceived it.

"Who am I?" I still keep on asking myself, with Everett's silhouette in my mind.
