Chapter 4

His parents passed a few years ago and he was an only child. His girlfriend left him months ago and moved away, he's only two close friend went on a three week vacation to Dominica. The rest of his friends are online friends who he plays online games together with them since child hood but they can't really be called friends and more like pals and they are not someone he needs to worry about.

He's friends did not pick up the phone so he left a message for them to call him when they can. He left a few messages to his coworkers to ask them if they know something or what they plan to do. After he put down his phone he started to check his food supplies, while he started to fill up his bath tub with water. He had 2 small bag of rice a bag of flour which is kind of old because he never used it, enough canned soup and peach and ananas to last him at least a week and his freezer is also full of meat and prepared food. His fridge was still pitifully deserted because he didn't plan to cook for this weekend so there is not too much fresh food inside. Half kilogram cheese some cold cuts, salami and steak meat, and some random veggies left over from Saturdays shopping.

He still had 2 pack of water bottle full and 2 bottles of Cola.

"Okay if the electricity going to keep running than I won't have a problem to hole myself up. If my neighbours not infected inside the building then I should be alright for the next 2-3 weeks with the frozen food. The only question is how long till the army contains the outbreak. "

The sounds from outside are getting more and more terrifying the gunshots are more and more rapid and its sound's growing closer.

Checking outside he's building now he could see more than 20 bloodied figure wobbling on the streat. Bumping into each other, and growling like some wild animal. Their look was kind of empty like they are in a daze. He could see a man with only one arm crawling forward pulling a line of blood behind him.

On the other side of the street inside the 5 storey building he could see figures moving at the windows.

He went back in front of his pc and started to search around the net. Downloading manuals about survival in the wild and all kind of useful info he could find. After he transfered them on his tablet he plugged it in to charge.

"I need to go down to my basement and bring up my solar panels. Even if it can't support a fridge I could use it for the induction stove and charge my stuff if they cut the electricity.

In cases like war and natural disasters the electricity goes out first than gas and water. At least I think so, inside my fishing gear there is also my hunting knife and I could make a spear with the fishing net's metal rod and the knife. My buildings door is electronically locked and the door is sturdy so if none has a card they can't open the door. I think since I came back no-one opened it so it's still closed. "

Looking around his room he grabbed a kitchen knife and removed the chair from his door. Looking through the peephole he couldn't see anyone in the corridor so after 5 minutes of sweating and peeping he unlocked his door. After three silent clicks he slowly opened his door til he could see outside through the narrow opening.

The corridor was empty and silent, nobody was around, walking outside and slowly pulling his door closed he started to walk downstairs. After reaching the first floor he could see one of the doors open next to the staircase leading to the base floor.

"That's awesome, I was never religious but I can't be called a sinner or a bad person so dear God do keep me safe for now. I don't ask you oftentimes but this time I really need some help."

Staring at the door he's knife start to get slippery in his hand, Davies could hear some wet sounds like someone slurping soup. His heart beat like he run a marathon, it took him 10 minutes to get here and start to walk to the open door slowly peeking inside.

He could see it, Thomas leaning over his daughter, the girl was a pretty high schooler who always smiled when she met him and said byes to him. He also went to their place one time with his ex girlfriend for dinner and they could be called acquaintances.

The young girl Mandy this time was in no way resembling the happy girl he knows. She was sprawled on the ground while Thomas was leaning over her stomach slurping and licking her intestines inside his hand. Her stomach was torn open and she is most likely already dead, though the few spasms and twitching could mean she only died very recently.

"Fuck it. You poor bastard what have you done. Oh god if you ever get better and wake up what are you going to do. What I am going to do now?"

Fighting with vertigo and the vomit that tries to break out like a volcano eruption Davies slowly pulled the door close. Luckily Thomas or what was once Thomas was busy feeding on his poor daughter. After the door clicked he dashed downstairs throwing caution to wind and pushed open the basement door. Only once he was on the dark staircase did he bend over and throw out his launch vomiting for the second time today.

After sitting on the stairs for a few minutes he started to walk down, the lamps turned on automatically with buzzing and flickering light. Getting to his storage room he opened it with his keys and got inside. It was a small 3m x 2m long room, filled with fishing gear a garden grill and all kinds of camping gear that his father left for him. Packing up his solar panels and knife and his metal rod inside a camo duffle bag he thrown it over his shoulder. The akku power station for his solar panels was not a new version so it was kind of heavy. He also grabbed a tent and some camping gear like a gas flask powered stove with 3 glass flasks, large flashlight and a sleeping bag.

"Beter take what I could need so I don't need to come back for them another time."
