"You have a brother? Is he pissed off, or something?" Tristan asked, whispering so that no one else could hear her but Esme.

Tristan was highly aware that all eyes were on the two of them and not on the door of the classroom that was swinging on its hinges. Tristan tried not to make eye contact with any of her peers. Esme, however, couldn't take her eyes off of the door, staring at it like at any moment someone was going to walk through it.

Tristan noticed now that Esme had grown paler than usual, any sign of her original glow was now gone. Reaching out to gently nudge the God that was practically trembling at her desk, Tristan instantly regretted it. Because as her fingertips touched the hot skin of Esme's shoulder, Esme snapped her head over and showed her true face, the face she had been hiding from Tristan.
