"What's Dr. Connors up to? Is he really about to kick off a live experiment with lizard gene regeneration?"

Peter's excitement was palpable; he suspected his spider genes might be responsible for his current state, so any related experiments by Dr. Connors were of keen interest to him. It all tied back to whether he'd face any repercussions.

Gwen shook her head. "I just wrapped up injecting the white rat last night. We're still waiting on the final results."

"Can I come watch tonight then? This stuff fascinates me."

Peter and Gwen hit it off and decided to head to the Osborne Building's lab later that night to witness the outcome together.

Initially hesitant, James hurried back to work on the Zodiac Suitcase, but Peter dragged him along, leaving him no choice but to tag along reluctantly.

Evening came, and the trio arrived at the Osborne Building. Guided by Gwen, they made their way straight to Dr. Connors' lab.

The lab, usually bustling at this hour, was oddly dimly lit today, adding an air of mystery.

After Gwen unlocked the door, they found Dr. Connors asleep on the table in his office.

James discreetly glanced at Dr. Connors' right arm, speculating that he'd already injected himself with the lizard serum, given the cocoon-like wrap around his regrown hand.

This was the fruit of lizard gene regeneration.

Soon, the transformation would extend throughout Dr. Connors' body, turning him into a human-lizard hybrid, a genuine Doctor Lizard. Though temporary, this transformation would grant him formidable strength, speed comparable to Spider-Man Parker, and nearly impenetrable defense against bullets.

As Gwen and Peter woke Dr. Connors, James readied himself for any potential conflict.

Upon waking, Dr. Connors nearly teared up at the sight of his regrown hand.

"Congrats, Doctor, looks like the experiment's a success," Gwen and Peter chimed in with genuine congratulations.

However, learning of Parker's lineage from Richard Parker brought a shadow over Dr. Connors' initial joy.

Richard Parker's absence had led to the loss of crucial spider gene data, setting Dr. Connors' research back years. Only recently did he gain access to Richard Parker's decay rate algorithm, allowing him to proceed with live experiments. But it was too little, too late, with Osborne Group pulling the plug on funding and pushing him out.

Despite his personal struggles, Dr. Connors chose to focus on the successful experiment rather than dwell on past troubles.

As they conversed, James remained silent, a single-minded determination visible as he prepared for what might come next.

In the midst of their discussion, Dr. Connors paused to make a call, his expression growing grim as he learned someone was en route with rejected serum to the Disabled Service Center.

"This can't go through!" Dr. Connors exclaimed, slamming his hand down.

Peter and Gwen moved to intervene, but James held Gwen back, sensing imminent danger.

"You have to stop him!" Dr. Connors urged Peter urgently.

"Stop who?" Peter asked, trying to grasp the situation.

Dr. Connors brushed him aside, heading for the door, green scales already visible on his neck.

Before he could leave, James stood in his path, calmly urging him to take a moment to calm down.

But Dr. Connors' inner turmoil couldn't be contained. The lizard genes surged through him, transforming him into the towering, humanoid Lizard.

As Dr. Connors completed his transformation with a roar, James prepared for what could be their most challenging encounter yet.
