When I was a young kid, I always dreamt about being a priest that helps other people. I wanted to become a devoted priest of God of Life. He was the most benevolent God among all and his people always helped others without any rewards.
That is why I wanted to become like them- a person who was filled with love, but that changed when I met her. She was the beginning of my despair and my only hope for salvation. I still remember how I met her. She was lonely and she was a hungry beast.
Tick*
Time went back to their fateful meeting.
I was sitting on the stairs, gazing at my book with interest. Unlike children around my age, I was both smart and strong. Hence, I haven't bothered to play with those snotty brats who always think for themselves.
" Oh my, are you reading alone again? Cross, go play with the kids."
Sister Mary said while smiling with a gentle look. No matter what kind of bad thing happened, she always smiled and give me a big hug because she was a kind person. As an orphan, I never had a family except for the monastery nuns and sisters. They were my only family.
" I don't want to go. All they do is waste their time on meaningless things. I want to study and learn martial arts so that I can protect you."
I said, looking at her with a serious look. Sister Mary burst out with laughter. Her eyes turned into a crescent as she patted my head with tender love.
" Cross, sometimes we need to live with others to learn the colors of the world. You can't see everything through the books, you have to experience them and understand their meaning."
Sister Mary smiled while saying this to me. She fixed her clothes and picked up my hand to drag me away.
" Alright, only this time."
I reluctantly agreed with her request since there was no harm in her words. Sometimes I wondered what would I feel if I made friends with those kids. Would I laugh and have fun like them? This was my concern because I have never laughed with others except for my family.
Sister Mary seemed to notice my worry as she looked at me with hesitation. I could see the worry in her eyes because she knew I was nervous.
" It is okay. I can do this."
I tugged her sleeves with a slight anxiety which was pretty normal for an introvert like me. Sister Mary sighed with relief as she introduced me to the kids.
" Hello, my name is Visha. This is Joe and this is Sera. We are from the nearby town."
The tall boy introduced himself to me with a polite tone. When I looked back to request help from the Sister, she was already gone. Perhaps, she slipped away when they introduced themselves.
" My name is Cross."
I said, extending my hand with hope. It was my first time talking with strangers even though I wanted to be a priest.
" Ah, you are that kid who couldn't use divine power."
Joe said, tilting his head to one side. Sera silently pinched him in the waist to stop him, but it was too late.
As he said before, I couldn't utilize divine power because I didn't have any compatibility with it. Even simple spells like ' heal ' is impossible for my current self.
Joe seemed to notice my downcast as he looked at Visha with a nervous look. I could see he was feeling guilty about his loose mouth.
" I am sorry for Joe. Tell me, Cross. I have heard you were a genius. Even our uncles said you were a martial prodigy with a mind of a scholar."
Visha asked with curiosity on his face because he had never met a genius boy around his age. He knew there were children who were talented, but most of them had backgrounds unlike me who had none.
" Because I want to be a priest. I want to help others and spread hope."
I said, looking at them with a calm look. This was my ultimate goal and purpose. I couldn't care less about other things.
