Chapter 23 The mines

Creak*

The sound of wood creaking could be heard in the tunnels which were filled with the smell of mold and wetness. Despite the narrowness of the tunnels, there were bustling people that came from every corner of the world, wishing to trade their merchandise with either money or something equivalent to it because these tunnels were known as the city of gold.

For decades this place had been infamous mines that had countless wealth in it, but the times didn't last long as the city grew bigger, the resources dried up and no one was willing to go down to the danger zone. Therefore, it was used as a place to hold countless criminals here.

Puff*

The green-faced little monster puffed out smoke while inspecting the good with his hand. He took out his zooming glass and carefully inspected the structure of the item.

" 50 gold. You can either trade with that or get 50 ml of liquid."

The goblin spoke while placing the item on the counter with indifference. Although he was showing his calmness, he was quite nervous inside his head. This item was an old relic of the southern continent where treasures were buried. As a merchant, he could distinguish what was valuable and what wasn't. This was the former one.

The young boy scratched his head with puzzlement. He took the item back, glancing at the street with distress because he knew he was getting ripped off by these hooligan merchants. Whether human or not, they were aiming for his item and that was inexcusable to him.

" No thanks, I will visit the merchant guild and try to get an appraisal there."

He said, turning his back to the goblin. The goblin bit his nails with anxiety, showing his interest to buy this item from him. He ran out from his booth to grab him.

" Young boy, wait. I will give you something in exchange for it. You will definitely like it."

He said, taking out a box from the dusty corner, unraveling the secret that has been forgotten by time. Even though he didn't know what was this item, it wasn't valuable as the boy's item in his eyes.

The young man was interested in his words due to his curious nature. He carefully seized up the box and decided to exchange it with his item since he could go the south again if he wanted to do so. So, there was no need to look for southern relics that he can find, instead, this unique-looking item was much more eye-catching to him.

" Deal!"

The goblin extended his ugly hand and smiled with delight. He probably thought he was winning in this trade, but he didn't know something was amiss. The box was exuding an aura that couldn't be perceived by mere mortals. This thing was beyond the realms of humans and it was from a place that didn't exist in this universe. A world that was filled with chaos and destruction.

The young man shook his hand, not knowing what was waiting for him ahead. The gears of fate started to notice him as well as it placed him in the grand future of the world.

Tock*

The clock ticked, indicating that mid-noon had come. The busy bustling streets fell into silence for their nemesis was approaching them with their usual face.

They held guns and wielded batons for their defense. Furthermore, they were wearing kinetic magic armor which were designed to block up to intermediate magic which was a rare luxury among the people in this world.

" The peace officers are here. Close your shops and hide your liquid."

The scouts shouted while helping them to clean up the street before something bad happens. They were no strangers to the strict policy of the country and court that banned the usage of unknown substances that enhance humans or other living beings because they think of it as a weapon.

The leader of the officers walked calmly under the gazes of the hatred. As a head officer, she was accustomed to such gazes wherever she went. Fear, despise, loathe, anger and so on, those things numbed her feelings and froze her heart.

Sigh*
