" Kuhaha, you expect us to violate you. Look at you, you are even skinnier than Harper."
Mendes burst out with laughter, wiping his tears in a great mood. He never expected he would meet such a lively brat in the ocean, but what could he do in this situation? The date had already sent her besides, she was an amusing character to have on board these rough thugs.
" Miss, you seem to misunderstand us for being the same as those so-called pirates of the free zone. We are the real pirates of the free zone and we bide with our code of morals and law of the alliance. So, there is no need to be hostile with us since we meant no harm."
Spade explained patiently, believing this girl had gone through something horrible. Every member of his crew was scarred by those barbarians, hence he view them as barbarians, not real pirates. Although the past had people like them, the pirate had been changed greatly in the present due to industrialization of the magic science.
There are plenty of ways to earn money while acting as a pirate such as guarding, protecting the plot, finding old relics, or looting the barbarians like them. Therefore many of these newly formed pirates despise their old chaotic generation due to being mindless and tactless about the world.
" You all say that. My parents were killed by such sweet words and I won't fall again."
The anger in her tiny voice quenched the thirst for entertainment that was raging on the old board. The crew members immediately fell into silence as they looked at her with pity.
Especially Mendes was hit so hard that he almost choked on his spit. He never thought this girl would be hiding such a cruel secret from him. Originally he thought she either escaped from her family or ran from the debtors which was common in this area.
" I am sorry for our men. I never imagined you would be going through hard times. However, don't think you are the only victims of the darkness."
Spade said, pulling up his sleeves to show a terrible scar of burnt flesh that was somehow similar to a cross and gun. All other members also revealed hideous scars, including Mendes who was laughing a moment ago.
This sudden reveal astonished the little girl because she knew most of them had a mark of infamous slave dealers of the islands on their bodies, meaning they were slaves before this life.
The slaves in this area were either regarded as a meat shield for labor or meat toilet for their urges which meant how terrible their fates were in those cells.
Most of them would choose death rather than this pitiful life that was worse than death. They believe sea gods would abandon them if they sell their bodies to other humans and they would reincarnate into horrible creatures of the deep ocean. However, amidst those numbers, few choose to live in shame and buy themselves from the shackles of shame.
" I..."
Gesha had no words to say as she knelt and sobbed there, without knowing what to do. The pressure was just too much for her, a girl in her young days.
Pat*
A rough hand patted her hand, messing around her hair like her father used to do so. Although there were subtle differences, the texture was the same and she missed this kind of touch.
" Don't cry. From now on, you will be one of us. You will become an agent of the ocean and fury of the tides. You will revenge your blood and be reborn as a ghost of the ocean."
Mendes spoke, raising her while covering her with his coat. The pirates roared as they followed their captain.
" I am a Ghost?"
Gesha tilted her head with confusion. The feeling of uneasiness melted like snow in the spring. She felt like she found her purpose and that was living as an agent of the ocean.
The ocean is cruel and merciful. It shows mercy to those who worship it, contrary it devours those who greed after its wealth through its tides.
" I am the ghost."
Gesha gritted her teeth, raising her head with clear eyes. She will now live as a ghost, not Gesha Tideweaver.
