Chapter 43: My Alpha, My Mate

Tara’s POV

The howling began while the moon was still hung brightly in the sky, it sounded like a chorus, like something Godly, like a gospel. I turned to look from my mate to the gathering wolves around us, creating a perfect circle surrounding Briar Bane’s dead body. The wolves howled for the loss of their alpha, and for the coming one who would lead them.

Victor seemed to not pay much attention to the symphony that surrounded them, but Emerald heard it. And her head lifted up at the sound of her pack calling out to the deceased, and she raised her nose to the moon as well as her throat and sang along with them. I lifted my head after hers and joined them, calling out to the moon, calling out to anything that might’ve heard us at the deep injustice that had been wrought this night.
