Chapter 147: A Woman, Golden and Almighty

Tara’s POV

“It’s not going to feel like anything you’ve experienced before,” Jack warned me, his eyes searching mine for any hint of reluctance. Or maybe it was hesitance, desertion or something else I couldn’t place. “Are you sure this is what you want?”

I looked up to him from where he held my hand. “I think the question of what I wanted was taken away from me a long time ago, to be honest.”

I laughed lightly, humorless, before I continued.

“As a kid, I wanted my mom, I wanted my dad. When you told me that I had had a brother, what I wanted more than anything was the chance to have met him. Or at least to have remembered him. At least I knew I had parents, but a brother…” I shook my head as I looked at him. “I didn’t even know him and yet, I hurt for him.”

Jack smiled lightly, his lips tight and worn. I felt his hand grip mine as he sighed out. “It’s better this way,” he promised. “Trust me.”

“What did it feel like?” I asked him.
