Chapter 153: A Tonic Malfunctioning

Tara’s POV

It was like a domino effect. The moment my eyes saw the blood on my hands that I had coughed up, and the moment my brain recognized it as blood, it was like I was pushed back to those what felt like ancient memories. I could feel the wind on my skin, the air and the smell of the lake on my naked body.

I felt cold as soon as I realized that Victor wasn’t laying beside me like he had been the night before when I fell asleep. My muscles constricted on themselves, and I vomited again, blood caking my hands as tears began to fall. I tried to remind myself where I was, that I wasn’t back at First Moon, that I wasn’t at that lake, but home with my family, in Lycosidae.

But the blood on my hands now was very, very real.

“Jack,” I gasped out, calling out to him as I tried to make sense of what was happening. “What’s happening? The tonic—it’s not working. Jack it hurts. I can’t, it hurts! Please! Make it stop!”

“Okay,” he called out to me, or maybe he wasn’t.
