Chapter 171: A Murmur Of Something Cruel

Fates’ POV

“They’re together again.”

An echoed voice broke the silence first. It was angered, it was vengeful, as though there had been a slight on it so intrinsic, like who they spoke of had stabbed it themselves.

“Hardly,” another scoffed, less scornful, more mocking. “They are broken.”

“There is no ‘they’. The she-wolf is distanced and hateful. She seeks revenge.”

The Fates were quiet as they considered this. Yes, Tara was vengeful. Yes, Tara wanted revenge. Whether she knew it or not, there was something stirring inside of her like an anger infantine—a slow, butterfly flap of something that was ready to strike.

Her hate nestled in her like a predator stalking its prey, waiting for an opportune time. But when would that be? Soon? Or later, when all chance and reason had gone from her? The first Fate mumbled, grumbling its disgust, hating how things had turned out for them.
