"What's the day?" David stared at Chloe for a while and refocused on the city streets of Kansas City.
"It's pretty fun. You're on your own? Isn't there a job in the office?" Chloe's hands were busy playing with her mobile phone.
"We are making a new game that will be launched in a few months."
"New Game?" asked Chloe.
David nodded in response. "Cooperation between the Otou-X game companies in Japan. This is the first time for me to cooperate with other companies."
"I hope everything goes smoothly. My male friend likes the game you made very much. They said they can date girls of their type in the games they play." Chloe snorted. "It's so ridiculous. They're all dating girls who aren't even real at all," Chloe commented.
David chuckled lightly. "You don't like the game I made?"
"It's not that you don't like it. I just feel that some men are weird. The hours in hours sitting in front of the computer just to date an unreal girl. They could have gone out and found a date, but they kind of didn't think it was all as important."
"So, you're the type who likes to go out to find a date?" David glanced at Chloe. The girl turned her head with a sharp look. "What? Isn't I right?"
"It's none of your business," Chloe replied in a stoic tone.
"Can't I ask?" asked David, casually.
Chloe didn't answer. She prefers to stare out of the car window with her face bent.
"You're mad at me?" asked David, "I seem to be making you angry," he said as he watched Chloe's bent face.
Chloe didn't take David's words. When they passed the street of St. Main. David stopped the car in a shopping district in front of Cold Stone Creamery. An ice cream shop in Kansas City. The ice cream shop is always crowded with customers because it is famous for being delicious and the servers are friendly.
David caught a quick look at Chloe's confused face before he took off the seatbelt he was wearing and rushed out of the car. Before long, Chloe also unfastened her seatbelt and got out of the car when David opened the door.
"Come on! we eat ice cream first before going home," David's eyes pointed toward the ice cream shop with a red Cold Stone name sign.
Chloe stared at the ice cream shop. She's been there, a few times with her friends. The ice cream there is very good and has a lot of flavors. It's one of the reasons Chloe likes the place quite a bit. And somehow, David also knows the places she often visits.
David took Chloe's hand when he walked into the store. Inside there is a long table containing a lot of various kinds of chocolates such as chocolate candies, small cakes, to large cakes.
One male server came to David when he saw him coming to the ordering table.
"Want to order something, sir?" He asked kindly.
"We ordered two Oreos," David said.
Chloe wrinkled her forehead as David placed the order without asking her first. "You didn't ask you first," he said later
"Don't you like what I ordered?"
Indeed, Chloe always orders an oreo whenever she comes to the ice cream shop. But…
How could he know the taste of the ice cream I was treating? Chloe's inner heart.
The server came over carrying two ice creams placed in a small round-shaped container with the Cold Stone logo to David.
"Your order, sir."
"Thanks," David said.
After paying for it, the two of them walked out of the store together.
Chloe watched David secretly. She felt a little strange when a man almost 28 years old, ate ice cream like a teenager. If you look at his personality, David is not the kind of man who likes to visit ice cream shops to enjoy it personally.
"Where do you know I like to eat ice cream here?" asked Chloe bluntly. They walked along the small streets around the shop outlets that many stood on the side of the highway.
"There are many easy ways I can do to find out about you," David replied casually.
They turned onto the left side of the street until they passed a Chinese restaurant. The two of them enjoyed the atmosphere of the afternoon by walking around and eating the ice cream they had bought.
"You did the same thing when Rayana was missing," Chloe muttered. She licked her ice cream cheerfully without realizing the corners of her lips with ice cream.
"Hey, Chloe," called David.
Chloe's head turned towards David. She was glued to her as David's thumb stretched out, gently rubbing the corners of Chloe's lips with ice cream David awkwardly licked his thumb with a smug smile.
"Sweet," David commented.
"A-what are you doing?" Chloe's face instantly flushed red. She froze for a while until David's hand grabbed her shoulder. Took her across the road and towards the small garden that was on the opposite side.
The two of them walked on the smooth path with green trees growing in several places.
David invites Chloe to sit on one of the garden chairs made of wood, beside which is a trash can. David took Chloe's ice cream container and threw it there before sitting down beside Chloe.
"Since just now you've been silent. Don't you like going with me, Chloe?" David turned his head. He tried to interpret Chloe's silence.
The girl didn't say as much as Chloe did a few minutes ago —rebellious, angry, exasperated— which revealed Chloe Anderson's true figure.
"Not really," Chloe said quietly.
Silence struck the two of them for a while until Chloe reopened the voice.
"David,"
"Ya?"
"I want to ask you about that night. When you...." Chloe's remarks dangled. David's face was too close to make it difficult for her to breathe.
David's forehead wrinkled in confusion. "That night?"
"The day at the wedding of brother and Rayana ... while by the beach that night. Chloe's voice seemed to sink along with her embarrassment. She wasn't supposed to ask about what happened that night. The moment when she picks David violently and stalks David crazy, or the moment when Chloe irritably leaves David without answering the man's declaration of love.
"Ah, So you remember the events that night? I thought you had forgotten about it. David grinned happily. He thought Chloe had forgotten about what happened that night because the girl thought she was joking.
"Were you serious about your words back then?" asked Chloe.
"Of course I'm serious. If I mess with the sister of my best friend. I must have died at Farren's hands." Chloe's amusing laughter made David turn around quickly. "Why laugh? You're happy if Farren beats me all out?" sparked David's exasperation.
Chloe silenced her mouth tightly so as not to laugh wider. "Judging from your personality, of course, I think you are messing around."
David's eyebrows rose next door. "Personality?"
Chloe nodded. "You don't know how bad the personality you have is? Playing games with women, sleeping with—" Chloe was forced to shut up as she watched the look on David's face harden. She wasn't supposed to say that—even though they had known each other for a long time.
"Sleep with women?" David continued Chloe's interrupted words. "I'm not going to deny that because I did, but even so," he paused for a moment. Tilted her body to the side so that she could see Chloe's face. "I'm serious about what I'm saying, Chloe. I like you," he insisted later.
