Chapter 24: Taking Flight

Asher headed off in one direction and Erika in the other. Once she was a short distance into the woods, she stripped off her clothes and shoes. Then she shifted into her wolf. She returned to the stream and lapped up a long cool drink. When she’d had her fill, she looked around.

When she is in her wolf, her vision improved. The greens were crisp and alive, the orange and red of the wildflowers stood out like they were brushstrokes from a painter. All the gorgeous detail of the wild world that would have been lost to shadow before, she could now make out in extraordinary contrast.

It occurred to her that this would have been a lovely place to have a picnic. In some peaceful world, she imagined herself leaning back on a blanket, a glass of white wine in one hand, a cigarette in the other, her belly full of fruit, cheese and meat.
