Latte and Fruit Tart

Olivia makes sure to arrive first at the cafe where she told Megan to meet her. That was to ensure that she would be able to order and pay for Megan's coffee and cake. Because if Megan came first or if she came at the same time as her, Megan would insist on paying for her coffee. And yes, she would omit that cake.

But instead of ordering cake, Olivia's mouth watered at the fruit tart that was on display. She thought that she hadn't tried that in that cafe before so why not try it with Megan? She paired it with two lattes for each of them. She knew that Megan was not that particular with the kind of coffee she was drinking as long as it had caffeine in it and it was not too sweet. Olivia prefers her coffee to be black without sugar but she once in a while craves something else.

Olivia got a text message from Megan that she had already arrived and was just parking her car, just exactly when she got her order. She smiled at the barista and said her 'thank you' before she took the tray and found a corner table that was far from the other table.

She should have opted for a more private place to meet Megan because of the sensitive topic that they were going to talk about but Megan hates meeting her that way. To Megan, meeting discreetly would make them even more suspicious if someone sees them. So, she always chose a public place but not too public.

The cafe was a public place but there were secluded tables if the customer wanted some kind of privacy. And they meet at the time that the cafe has fewer to no customers other than them.

Olivia didn't wait too long because Megan soon appeared at her side. Her back was facing the entrance of the cafe so she didn't see her coming though she was expecting her. "Hey," Olivia looked up and greeted Megan with a smile.

She watched as Megan took her seat across her while she pushed the latte and a plate of fruit tarts in front of her.

Once seated, Megan looked at the latte and the tart in front of her before she looked up, raising her brow at Olivia. Then she asked, "So, what's this all about?" She leaned backward as she folded her arms in her chest and watched Olivia keenly while from the corner of her eyes, she was also observing their surroundings.

Megan was glad that they were the only ones at the cafe.

Olivia smiled sheepishly before her face turned into a slight panic. "I'm sorry. Were you busy when I called you here? I didn't mean to bother you during your work hours. Gosh, I should have asked you first before I asked you to come," It was just then that she realized that she didn't even ask if Megan was busy when she texted her to meet her. The moment she saw the list that Bardwell gave her, she immediately sprinted out of the office and sent Megan a message without even thinking.

She doesn't want Megan to think that she was treating her like a puppy that was always at her beck and call. Olivia owed a lot to Megan and she doesn't want Megan to think that she was taking her for granted. But sometimes, she could be impulsive and she hates herself for that.

Megan looked at Olivia flatly and immediately cut her blabbering. "Liv!" Her voice was enough to shut Olivia's mouth and catch her attention. Even the barista at the counter looked in their direction. Megan sighed and then said, "We also have our coffee breaks just like you, and most of the time, I would rather have it outside the station," She said that not to make Olivia feel bad about calling her in the middle of her work.

Though what Megan said was true, what Olivia said was true as well. She was busy with a new case when Olivia called. But Megan doesn't mind taking a break from her work to help Olivia especially when she knew that Olivia would really need not just her help but Matthew's as well. Olivia just hasn't realized it.

"Oh," Olivia just said. Then she saw Megan pick up her latte and brought it to her lips. Unconsciously, Olivia mirrored her but she took longer to sip her latte. She ran her tongue to her lips to savor the remnants of the coffee on her lips. Then she put down her cup and raised her head to look at Megan.

"So, is this about your vigilante theory?" Megan asked as she folded her arms on her chest.

Olivia shook her head. "No. Actually, this is about something else," She said, and then she turned her body to the side where she put her bag on the vacant chair. She pulled out a folder and handed it over to Megan. "Uhm…here,"

Megan's gaze never left Olivia as she opened the folder. Once the folder was open, she only glanced at it, and then she looked back at Olivia and asked, "Is this your new assignment?"

Olivia nodded her head and then she pursed her lips. "Yeah," She replied, and then she picked up the fruit tart and took a bite from it instead of using the fork.

"What did he do?" Megan asked.

"That is exactly the problem. That is exactly why I called you," Olivia replied with a serious look on her face.

Megan stared at her for a while. Then she closed the folder and handed it back to Olivia. "I never heard him involved in any crimes," She said then she took another sip of her latte. She hates it when her coffee gets cold. When Timothy saw in Olivia's computer that she was looking into Jove Latimer, he and Megan knew that it meant trouble. Not because they were aware of what dirty secret Jove Latimer was hiding but because Jove Latimer is a big name that comes from money. If someone was investigating him, that means, he's into something big and it will not be good for Olivia if she was found out.

Jove Latimer has the money and all means to make anyone disappear. That includes Olivia.

Olivia nodded her head. "Yeah, me too. But Bardwell seems to think otherwise. In fact, she gave me this list of people," She said, and then she took a piece of paper from her bag and slid it onto the table towards Megan.

Megan used her finger to keep the piece of paper from flying off the table because of the wind coming from the air conditioner. She quickly read the list on the paper before she looked up at Olivia who was drinking her latte. "They were cops," She said. Not all police officers know of the other police officers, especially those that were assigned to other stations. Not unless they had worked with them before.

But Megan is not just a police officer. She has a habit of digging for information and saving it for future use. She has a good memory so it was not hard for her to retrieve information including names in the closets of her brain.

Olivia put down her cup and nodded her head once. "Undercover," She corrected Megan.

"Bardwell said that these people might give me information about why Jo…" She paused and looked around. Thankfully, there were still just the two of them in that cafe, but she still doesn't want to be reckless by mentioning the name of the person she was trying to get information from. She looked back at Megan and continued, "...why this man was being investigated and by whom," She said pointing at the folder that was still on the table.

"How did she get this?" Megan asked as she slid the piece of paper back to Olivia with her finger.

Olivia shrugged her shoulders and said, "Her informant,"

Megan smirked and shook her head, "Remind me to have a one-on-one meeting with this informant," It may come off as a joke but she was seriously thinking about it. Bardwell's informant must be really good if he was able to get a whiff of that kind of information that even she or Timothy wasn't aware of. She could make good use of that informant.

Olivia chuckled. "I don't think Tim would like that idea…the one-on-one part…I mean," She said knowing how possessive and overprotective Timothy is of Megan. She knew that if Timothy found Megan talking alone with a man, which she knew he would because Timothy always has his eyes on Megan, he would immediately dig for information about that man and if he found out that the man is a threat to Megan, or if the man even looked at Megan with affection or lust, he would be dead on the spot.

"So, do you know who these undercover cops are?" Olivia asked. After all, it was the reason why she wanted to meet Megan.

Megan leaned backward and lazily rested her elbow on the backrest of her chair. "Yeah, but they were assigned to different stations so it is kind of suspicious that they were working together on one case. Unless the chief of their stations was involved," She said when she heard the bell of the cafe ring. Her eyes moved past Olivia's shoulder and saw a couple entering the cafe. She observed the couple first before she looked back at Olivia.

Olivia knew that someone came but she didn't turn her head to look. Knowing that they were not alone anymore, she tried to lower her voice as she looked down at her fruit tart and picked it up. "Do you think so? What if there was someone from the higher-ups leading this investigation that the chiefs of those cops weren't aware of?" She asked and looked back at Megan then she took a bite of her fruit tart.

"That's a possibility," Megan replied while in the corner of her eyes, she was watching the couple as they took their orders.

"Anything could be a possibility," Olivia mumbled but it was enough for Megan to hear. "Uhm…do you know where I could find them?" She hesitantly asked.

Megan picked up her fruit tart for the first time and brought it to her lips. "I do not have their address and if they were undercover, it would be hard to find them," She said then she took a bite from it. Then she added, "But I could get you their contact numbers," She said while munching on the tart.

Olivia's eyes lit up when she finally saw development in her assignment even though there was still uncertainty if Megan could really get their numbers for her. But then, it is Megan. So what could go wrong?

"Really?"

Megan chuckled as she continued to eat her tart. "If you promise me one thing," She said to see Olivia nod her head enthusiastically.

Megan waited for the couple to find their table which was on the corner opposite them before she leaned forward and said, "You tell me first before you go and meet them. And tell Matthew about this. The last thing I need is him coming to the station and accusing me of sending you off to the danger zone,"

"I promise," Olivia immediately said. It was not as if she was going to keep a secret from Matthew.

Megan chuckled and shook her head as she leaned back. "You really are something, you know that?" Then she finished her tart.

Olivia smirked and replied, "Same to you, Meg," Then she finished her tart as well.

Later that day, Matthew went to Timothy's apartment to meet Daxon, Nic, and Mason. He was also expecting to see Megan. In fact, he was more eager to see Megan than the others. But when he arrived, only the men were present and Megan hadn't arrived yet.

Although they had heard what Megan and Olivia talked about at the cafe because Megan called them and left the line open before she entered the cafe, he still wanted to hear from her because there were things that they didn't mention since they were in a public place and were just trying to be cautious.

Matthew knew that there were names involved and he wanted to know who those people were before Olivia became impulsive and met them on her own. Though he knew that Olivia would learn about those people first before she met them, sometimes, she tends to be impulsive, especially when she is chasing a deadline.

Matthew was glad that Megan made Olivia promise to tell them first if she was going to meet those people or any people involved because he was worried that she would and it might put her in danger.
