Someone Who Was In Her Shoes (Part 2)

Olivia doesn't know how many glasses Megan had already had but seeing that the bottle of wine is now almost empty, it looks like Megan already had enough to make an ordinary woman tipsy. But when she looked at Megan, except for her flushed face, she didn't seem affected at all by the alcohol.

Olivia glanced at the door and pursed her lips. "Mm…Matt gave me time," She said, and then she looked back at Megan. Since Matthew gave her time, Olivia thought why not spend it knowing more about Megan who was in the same shoes as her?

"I was actually almost in the same situation as you," Megan leaned at the small backrest of the stool and smirked.

"You mean…" Olivia trailed off and waited for Megan to continue.

"I was always assigned…or volunteered to handle complicated cases. Cases about criminals who went missing and then were found dead. Cases like…Jacobi Roone, Talon Bonneville, and Franklin Amudsen. Especially if the case appeared to be a case of suicide but I believed otherwise," Megan started which immediately caught all of Olivia's attention and interest.

"It always seemed impossible to solve…in fact, it is. Though those cases were solved and closed, I was never satisfied. You know that feeling when you proved something but you are not convinced yourself," Megan swirls the red liquid in her glass as she stared at it before she looked up at Olivia and continued. "That is the feeling I get whenever I solve a case that involves those kinds of criminals. Because I felt that it was something else even though the evidence says otherwise,"

Olivia understands Megan because she had felt the same. Especially in Talon Bonneville's case. It was declared as suicide but Olivia who was following the story believed otherwise. Her instinct tells her that it was not.

As it turns out, she was right and Bardwell was wrong. Internally, Olivia felt giddy at the thought that she outsmart her perfectionist boss.

Megan shrugged her shoulder and said, "But I cannot do anything about it," then she brought her glass to her lips this time, just taking a sip instead of drinking all of it.

Olivia noticed it and thought that maybe, Megan is starting to feel the effect of the alcohol which is why she is taking it easy. Or maybe, she was taking all her time because her story is really long.

"Then I was assigned to a province five hours from here. I was never assigned to those kinds of cases because it was rare in the province," A faint smile suddenly appeared on Megan's lips and Olivia knows why. She remembered that it was also the time that the relationship between Megan and Timothy had shifted.

"When I came back here after almost a year, Tim and I were already in a relationship. That's when he told me,"

"How did you react?" That is what Olivia was eager to know because she is not sure if she was reacting the way she should be after everything that Matthew told her. She thought that she should be mad, or scared, but because Matthew justified his actions, she is not. Though she is worried.

"I was pissed at him. Not because I am a law enforcer and he is being unlawful but because I didn't even suspect that it was him. It bruised my ego," Megan said with a scowl on her face, and then she drank what was left of her glass of wine.

"Now you are helping them,"

Megan reached for the bottle of wine and poured the remaining liquid into her glass, not even bothering to ask Olivia if she wanted it. "Yeah. Mostly not to get caught. Though I don't think they needed my help. Especially Tim. I needed to make sure that he would not get caught. Being in the department has an advantage," Megan explained. Being a police officer who has a keen eye and sharp ear, it was easy for her to know if her boyfriend and friends were already being suspected. She knows that Timothy could do that as well but she could do that better and faster.

Megan also handles the cases about the criminals that were tortured and killed by her boyfriend or at least involved herself in those cases so that she could stir them away from her boyfriend and friends. She knows that what she is doing was unlawful and against the police codes, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

Those victims were criminals who have killed and abused women and children in the past. They were just doing mankind a favor. Because if they rely on their justice system, those criminals will only be sentenced to life imprisonment, they will still be given shelter and food without doing anything inside their cell. That is not fair for the pain they have caused their victims.

Olivia realized that she should thank Megan for making sure that Matthew and his friends will not get caught. Although she believed that what Megan said was right. They do not need help.

Megan watched as Olivia went silent as she stared at the empty glass of her wine. She did not bother to offer her more because she was certain that Matthew would be pissed at her. After all, he only told her to keep Olivia company and not to offer her alcohol. That is why Megan emptied the bottle of wine without bothering to get more.

When Olivia remained silent for a few minutes, Megan took that as an opportunity to ask her. "May I ask you something?" She asked carefully.

Olivia looked up from her trance and nodded her head. "Yes,"

"What are you thinking?" Megan asked with a subtle frown on her forehead.

A lot of things. Olivia answered but only to herself. All the information that Matthew told her earlier was slowly sinking into her. When it comes to her emotions, she must admit that Megan and the alcohol helped her settle down.

But though it has been a while since Matthew left her in Megan's company, the surprise she felt hasn't left her. So, she answered, "I was surprised at everything he told me," After saying that, everything that Matthew told her flashed in front of her. Then she remembered to ask, "How's Tim's mom by the way?"

Megan is in a relationship with Timothy and grew up with him, so Olivia doesn't doubt that Megan is in a close relationship with Timothy's mother.

Megan smiled and Olivia could see the fondness in her face at the mention of Timothy's mother. Maybe, Megan is not just close to Timothy's mother who is also her future mother-in-law. "I believe she is in her best state of health. Physically, psychologically and emotionally. I believe being surrounded by people that loved her and makes her happy healed her completely,"

"That's good," Olivia smiled and nodded her head.

"The same goes for Aunt Belle," Megan added.

Olivia was not surprised. She heard that Timothy, Megan, and Matthew's parents were close friends. They were families. They cared for each other to the point that they would kill for each other. So she doesn't doubt that Timothy and Matthew's mothers were surrounded by people that would provide them with emotional and psychological support.

Olivia believed it because she didn't see any indication that Matthew's mother had PTSD. And she was thankful for that.

"I never pegged Matthew to be someone who would kill people. Though I know he would hurt someone because I know and witness him do," Olivia said. She knew that Matthew could fight. She had seen him fight for her. She could not count how many men Matthew had beaten up just because they looked at her the wrong way.

Matthew could fire a gun like an expert. Olivia had seen him carry a gun and pointed it at a man just to protect her. He had also brought her to a firing range that was owned by Mason where he met up with them and just hung around.

But torturing and killing people is far-fetched. Until he said he could and he did. It was something that until now, she was having a hard time digesting. She wondered if she would ever get used to that idea. Or maybe, she would just have to pretend ignorant about it. Just like Belle does.

"Aunt Belle doesn't look like she was an assassin," Megan suddenly said, making Olivia look at her. She was right though, it was even more hard to digest. It was simply unimaginable. Belle was good at portraying a sweet and charming woman who could not hurt even a fly that no one would suspect of her being an assassin.

"You are right," Olivia found herself nodding her head.

Both of their glasses were empty as with the bottle of wine beside them. But no one moved to get another bottle as if they knew that they already had enough alcohol to push themselves into a more sensitive topic.

"Did it change how you see them?"

Megan's question made Olivia think about it. It was something that she hadn't thought of or noticed ever since Matthew brought her to that facility. Because it was something that had not occurred to her.

What Matthew told her had a huge impact on her, so it should make a drastic change in how she sees him. But surprisingly, nothing had changed.

"Actually, no…" Olivia answered. Her tone gave off that she sounded as if she was perplexed at her own realization. Her brows were furrowed as she stared at the white countertop.

"What are you going to do now?" Megan probed further.

Olivia raised her head to look at Megan. The creases between her brows deepened as she struggled to find words to say. "Uhm…" But before she could utter a word, Megan asked more. "Are you going to leave Matthew?"

Olivia's eyes went wide. "What? No! I won't," She may have mixed thoughts and emotions at the moment but leaving Matthew is not among them.

With the way Olivia looked terrified at the thought of her leaving Matthew, Megan believed that she would not. But she wanted to hear more. So she asked, "Are you going to expose them?"

Again, Olivia violently shook her head. "No," It was the truth though. Ever since Matthew told her that he was the vigilante that she was hunting and planning to expose later, the plan was completely abandoned.

Megan tilted her head as if she was hesitating whether to believe Olivia or not. "But why do you look conflicted?"

"I'm just worried that he would get caught. I don't want him to get caught," Olivia said while shaking her head. Why would she expose Matthew when she was so afraid that he would get caught?

Megan nodded her head in understanding. "That's normal. I know how capable Tim is. I know he won't get caught. But I still worry. That is why I am helping him so he won't get caught,"

Olivia does not approve of what Matthew was doing simply because she is afraid that he will get caught. She thought that she already knew how capable Matthew is but it looks like she knows nothing. Is he as capable as Timothy of not getting caught? But however capable he is, is there anything she could do to help him?

Obviously, she cannot stop him.

As if reading her mind, Megan continued. "Liv, I am not telling you to help Matthew or have his back as I know you are not cut out for this but I ask you to please…understand him,"

Understand him…Olivia already did. Does he have her back? That is not even a question. But the question is, can she help him? How?

While Olivia was pondering on Megan's words, Megan added, "Matthew is a good man. All of them are,"

Olivia doesn't doubt it. it
