Sitting on the old couch while a bottle with liquor I brought was passed between my friends and me. I took another sip and felt the warmth in my throat. Then I passed it to someone else while looking out of the broken window. It was raining outside and on the roof on the opposite building raindrops were falling and jumping. All that looked so comfortable and relaxing.
Others were talking about something but I wasn´t listening. I just absently watched the scene that was happening outside. It still wasn't dark because of the sunset that went for few official days. But still the streets lights came back on after a long bright day.
"Rayne."
"Hm?" I turned around with a question in my eyes. I didn't even knew who said my name so I just looked at everyone in here.
"Wanna have a ride?" asked boy with darker skin and glasses which he shifted higher on his nose. Arno didn't have normal glasses like anyone could have. That nerd was always doing some weird stuff and even his second pair of eyes could not be left alone. I just knew that he can record things since a few years ago but that definitely wasn´t the end.
"What?" I asked, confused. None of us had a hovercar. Only Jasper had hoverbike but Arno wouldn't be the one asking someone to have a ride if that was the thing in the question.
Jasper just grinned and then shrugged like it was the most normal thing ever: "Normally. We have a hovercar."
He said it like it was nothing. But in this city, that so called hovercars had only the ones who had money. Like much. Not like us. Of course anyone could make a hovercar wreck into working thing but not everyone. And here was more used the train and hoverbikes.
Even so we went outside. Our group walked under the roofs so we were not very wet from the rain. Our steps led into the near small street where was some object hidden under a blue sail which Jasper took down while looking very excited. And then we all could see that machine. It didn't look bad so I was kind of curious from where did they get it.
"Get in. We won't have this chance very often," said suddenly Arno while he was again adjusting his glasses. And then he went to the one of the back seats where he later sat down. I too went to sit myself down but then I realized one important thing:
"Who's driving anyway?"
None of us never drove that thing after all. Well, from what I knew. There wasn't a chance of learning it. So I ended up being nervous more than excited. This could be my last minutes of being alive. Or maybe not. But that feeling wasn't very nice to feel. However, I felt a little better when Yuki was the one who sat in the driver seat. I was quite surprised because I thought that Jasper will want to show off. But then I remembered that Yuki was only one who wasn't drinking a while ago.
I sat next to Yuki who was looking for something in his pockets. Jasper gave me not very happy look and then went to the back seats where already sat Arno and Mali. Maybe he wanted to sit in the front but first comes first served.
I gave concerned look to Yuki: "So you really know how to drive it?"
Like always he said nothing but just nodded his head and started the engine. And in a few minutes we were on the way between buildings. Going who knows where. And thankfully, the street was big enough for this hovercar because people only walked in here or rode hoverbikes.
After a while we finally flew on the bigger road because of the center being closer to us than a moment ago. However, then I almost forgot how to breath because I realized where we were heading. Yuki took the turn right to the sky part of the city. We were so lucky that no one was there to controll who's going up to Sora. Probably because someone who shouldn't be there wouldn't have a hovercar to go there.
Yuki was driving like a profesional. Holding steering wheel while he had a small smile on his lips which wasn´t very often to be seen because most of the time he just had his classic poker face. And now he looked quite happy and like he wasn´t here for the first time like us, his friends. He obviously knew these streets. But I didn´t ask even though I wanted to. Everyone has their secrets after all.
So instead of asking, I was just looking around at some fancy buildings and everything. All of it just looked totally different than what I was used to see. Everything was so luxurious, bright and clean. While at my home and the neighborhood... yeah, very different. And definitely not luxury, but that wasn´t what I didn´t like. I hate people up here. Their atitude.
I sticked my hand out of the window just a little so I could feel the wind on my skin. Leaning more into the seat I looked at the street. This felt like the best moment in my life. We get in here and fortunately nobody got us yet. So we could drive among luxurious hovercars of the important and rich people for once.
"We have to do this again," said Mali from the back. After all, everyting we did all the time was going to school and trying to make some money. But now I and Yuki were out of school. We already finished it and had to find a stable job which was kind of problem for me. I could never stay at doing one thing. That was too boring.
While resting my head on the headrest I looked at the sky above us. The roof of the car was now opened. Even though the lights were so bright in here and it still wasn´t a night completely, we could see some other planets and three moons all partly enlightened by Lucens, the star of this system. And from time to time something flew by outside of Shinrin. Someone obviously went out from our sister planet.
I always wanted to travel outside in that big universe. Maybe to Vuoria or somewhere else. But unfortunately someone like me couldn´t afford that... I wasn´t smart-head like Arno or had money. I could probably try to become pilot or something or get randomly money somewhere so I could get out of here.
"Y´all, look at them," mumbled Mali while sounding so annoyed. "They go to fancy restaurants all the time and drive these shiny machines."
Turning my head at her I said with a grin: "Then find yourself sugar daddy or someone like that if you are so jealous of them."
Mali looked at some people which could be seen through the glass windows of the buildings around and then shook her head: "Uh, they must have egos high like Five Knights Tower."
Everyone laughted. What she said was true. The Five Knights Tower was build for the first five people who ruled this city over fifteen decades ago. It stands in centre next to square full of shops and it´s so tall that the top of the tower is as high as highest buildings in here, sky part of the city. So her words were very apt. And these people probably couldn´t even stand someone like us. But that was same on our side. So when they looked down on us like at some ants it wasn´t surprising that Mali didn´t want to live among them. But... I would like to try it at least. Having so much money to buy everything I would put my eyes on.
"Arno? You will be able to live in here one day maybe, right?" I asked.
He was smart as hell, after all. His future was brighter than these lights around. All the time poking into some electronics and making things better - that was his hobby. After school, he could at least make living a level higher if not make it to here. But he was still thinking after he heard my question. Then he shrugged: "Then we won´t see each other so often and Mali will hate me. And so y´all."
Jasper started laughing after hearing Arno´s answer: "Nah, buddy. I would live unemployed under your roof and you would never be able to get rid of me."
Arno gave him not very happy look. He probably didn´t like Jasper´s idea and I´m not even surprised. Who would want someone like Jasper living in their home with all that horrible ideas of his while he could get into any type of problem? Nobody. No one with a clear mind.
"Should I turn it around here?" asked Yuki suddenly to which everyone agreed. Even though nobody got us until now didn´t mean nobody could in upcoming minutes. And we didn´t want to have that kind of problem. That would be too annoying. So Yuki made u-turn at the nearest crossroad and then we went back.
