As early as five in the morning, Luke was up. Last night, they had eaten and drank till they couldn't walk anymore. Even Dhyn had to sleep over.
Last night was fun but he had somewhere he needed to be by six.
He washed and changed into a new set of clothes.
When he was ready, he tapped Obed till he woke up. "Hey, I'm heading to work right now. There's something I need to do before we open up. I'll surprise you when I return."
"Go ahead. You better not be late. I've skipped work for a while now and I'd like to resume today." Obed answered Luke. His eyes were too heavy to open so he just waved Luke off.
"See you later then." Like walked out of the apartment and quickly got downstairs and exited the building.
He checked the time on a small pocket watch. It was a few minutes past five.
Luke readied himself to his peak condition. He went on one knee and after three breaths, he bolted from his position like he was being chased by a beast from hell.
Three minutes later, he arrived at the store which would've taken him ten to fifteen minutes if he had walked.
"That's good timing." He dropped off the small bag he had carried along with him. He made sure it was well hidden. Then he sprinted back home.
Another three minutes were gone. He repeated this and slowly, the time he spent dropped. By the time it was six, Luke's last sprint to the store took two minutes and thirty-three seconds.
When he arrived, he met Seth standing at the front of the store. He had just arrived.
"Did you run all the way here because you woke up late even though you set the time?" Seth asked when Luke got closer. He had been surprised to see Luke run all the way to the store.
"No, I didn't, I was here long before you arrived. Quit asking questions and get ready." Luke walked to a corner of the store.
Before Seth could argue, Luke pulled out his small bag and when Seth saw it, he went quiet.
"Well, just so you know, I'm pretty impressive at boxing." Seth opened his mouth after a few minutes.
"Is that so? Then I guess your training just got tougher. Here, try punching me here." Luke pointed to his abdomen.
"That's gonna hurt won't it?" Seth asked unconvinced.
"I said quit asking questions." Luke tapped his head.
Seth had to gather as much of his strength as possible and then hit Luke.
"Hmm. That's great. So here's how you're going to train for the whole time till we open the store by nine. First off…" Luke's explanation went on and on.
Two hours later, Seth was on the floor. He just stayed motionless like a dead person. The only difference was that his chest was continuously rising and falling.
Seth opened his mouth to speak, and closed it. He tried again and closed it.
"You did great. You just need to work on your stamina like I was doing before you arrived." Luke advised him.
"You're a monster. I don't even think I can keep going for the next one hour." Seth finally spoke after several trials.
"You'll get better with time. We'll end here for the day. So get up." Luke walked close to Seth and picked up his bag.
"Umm…" Seth called for Luke's attention.
"What?" Luke asked.
"I don't think I can get up." Seth replied.
"What's wrong?" Luke asked and then he chuckled.
"I think we took it too far." Seth smiled.
"Yeah sorry, I think we did." Luke laughed.
"Hehe… ahh." Seth's giggle turned to shout.
"The hell were you trying to do?" Luke laughed even more.
"I was trying to laugh. Is that a bad thing?" Seth was in pain. His body ached all over. From his head to his feet.
"Don't try that. It'll make you feel more pain." Luke wore his bag and walked over to Seth. He carried Seth up like a baby and walked into the store.
"You can rest here. I'll bring a painkiller in a moment." Luke placed Seth on a small couch inside the store.
"I'd like to bear this pain for a while longer. Could the painkiller wait for another hour?" Seth's question surprised Luke a bit.
"I see what you're trying to do. You want to get used to this level of pain. That's great. Then I'll wait for another two hours." Luke smiled.
"No no no no. One hour is enough. It's already too much to bear right now. I might go crazy if I experience it for another hour and you want to make it two?" Seth seemed to already be on the verge of going crazy.
"Don't sweat the details. I was just joking." Luke laughed and walked away.
An hour later, when the store opened, Luke brought a painkiller for Seth which he took and went to sleep.
The day went by as normal and quiet as possible. Once in a while, a customer would come to buy something and then leave.
Then the old man arrived like he always did.
"Welcome old man. What took you so long?" Luke greeted the man.
"I should be the one giving lectures. It's not supposed to be the other way round." Old man Jarod slowly walked to the counter.
"Where's Seth?" The old man asked Luke.
"He's just over there sleeping." Luke pointed in a direction.
"Sleeping as soon as he got to work? He needs some scolding." The old man flared up.
"Calm down old man. He started his training with me today. The training was so tough he had to sleep after we ended." Luke explained to old man Jarod.
"I see. Since you're okay with it, that's great." The old man gave Luke an old smile.
"Ah, before I forget, what do you think about the loot we made yesterday?" The smile on Luke's face looked contagious.
"I don't want a dime from it. You can have it all." The old man grunted and walked to his special chair in the store.
"I see. But I can't do that. You sure you don't want it?" Luke asked again.
"Yes."
"Fine… I'll just do whatever I want with it. There's no one to tell me how to spend it after all." Luke sighed.
"Sure, sure go ahead." The old man didn't want anything to do with the money they had gotten from the gang.
The rest of the day went by and when it was almost time to close up the shop, Seth woke up.
"Good morning to you." The old man was the first to speak.
"Umm…" Seth seemed lost for words. He didn't know what to say.
"Don't worry, I already explained it to him. He's fine with it." Luke informed him.
"Thank you." Seth said with a smile on his face.
"Come, let this big brother spoil you." Luke had an evil smile. "When we close the shop, you'll go somewhere with me for a short time."
When the shop closed, Luke bid farewell to the old man.
"I'll be back very soon." Seth told his grandpa.
They headed to the bank Luke now seemed familiar with.
"Good day going ones. How may I help?" The man at the counter asked them.
"I want to make a withdrawal." Luke gave the man the card he had taken from the gang.
"About four hundred golds should do." Luk smiled.
"The fee is four golds." The man at the counter smiled back.
"There's no problem." Luke was swimming in money at the moment.
A few minutes later, Luke's bag was holding over three hundred golds while Seth's card had risen by fifty golds.
"Thank you so much, Luke. This little brother will remember this." Seth gave a bow to Luke.
"That's fine. That's fine. Tomorrow's surprise is gonna be lit. You shouldn't arrive till it's nine tomorrow. See you later." Luke waved him goodbye and headed home.
