The sun had completely set when Luke woke up.
He looked at the clock ticking on the wooden drawer close to his bed. It was past seven. Obed should be home any moment from now.
Luke quickly stood up and washed his face. He rushed into the kitchen to make something for them to eat. He couldn't keep Obed hungry after his night shift just ended.
"Well, shit…" Luke got to the kitchen and found all the plates dirty.
He had told Obed to leave the plates so he could wash them and then he slept off and woke up late.
He ignored the plates and washed up a pot he would use for cooking.
With haste, he washed and diced potatoes into bits and put them in the pot with water.
Porridge wouldn't take too long to make and he didn't have too long.
He chopped the remaining deer meat from last night into tiny pieces and when it was time, he added it to the pot of porridge.
"Well, it's time to do the dishes." Luke put off the fire and began to wash the dishes.
Click.
The door opened and Obed walked in. He looked around and spotted Luke washing the dishes and his face twisted. Even his stomach churned.
"Please don't tell me you haven't made anything to eat." Obed pleaded.
Luke gestured to the hot pot. "I made porridge."
Obed's brows went up in suspicion. "Why porridge?" He asked.
Luke just continued washing the plates as he answered. "Well, I figured it's been a while and we could have it for a change."
Obed saw through Luke's lie and immediately said. "You woke late!"
"No, I didn't." Luke responded righteously.
Obed wouldn't take no for an answer. "Yes, you did. You either make porridge when you wake up late or when in a hurry. I don't think you're in a hurry so the truth is you woke late."
"Well, that's true. But you can't deny the fact that it's always great to eat." Luke spoke back.
"I knew it." Obed dropped his small backpack and walked to the kitchen. The kitchen was completely open, with no walls separating it from the sitting room so even if one of them stood in the sitting room, he could see who was in the kitchen.
He took one of the washed plates and opened the pot to take out his share of the porridge.
Obed put a spoonful into his mouth and went. "Hmmm… it's great."
Chuckling, Luke replied to his friend. "What'd I tell you?"
"Once I'm done with the dishes, I'll eat, wash up, and then, I'm heading out."
Obed remembered Luke's act last night and mocked him. "Didn't you want to remain indoors just yesterday? And oh, doesn't the store stay closed for another hour?"
Luke rinsed the last plate with water as he explained to Obed. "That was yesterday and yes, I would love to remain indoors if I could but I need to get some things. The store doesn't open yet so I'll head to get the items first and then head for the shop."
"Oh, I see."
"Yeah, by the time I arrive, the shop should be open." Luke arrived in the sitting room with his plate of porridge in his hand.
Luke finished his food before Obed, who had started eating first. He walked into the room, got cleaned up, and walked out minutes later.
"So what are you going to get?" Obed asked, still chewing his food when Luke returned.
Luke answered his friend. "I need ingredients for a pill."
At the mention of the pill, Obed's eye went dizzy and his stomach turned violently, even rumbling as though he was hungry.
He was happy at the aftereffects of the previous pill that had made him a chosen now, but the times he had to spend in the toilet were almost traumatizing.
"What pill?" Obed asked with bravery.
Luke answered Obed with a mysterious reply that made him shiver. "You'll know when I get the ingredients." He bid farewell to Obed and walked out of the apartment.
"Stay safe." Obed's voice sounded from inside the apartment.

"It's been days since I asked to speak with you father and you're only giving audience to me this late. That's not fair is it?" Aurora was in a room with an older man. He had grey hair and seemed to be in his late fifties. His eyes were a match with his daughter, Aurora's. He was a head taller than her and from his looks, he seemed very strict. He really was strict.
"As you can see, I've been very busy. Even at the moment, I'm busy. I would've made you wait longer if you were any other person. You should be grateful." The man spoke with a deep voice that contained arrogance and royalty.
Aurora gave him a deep bow. "Well then, I'm sorry to have overspoken. Pardon my rude behavior."
"What was it that you wished to speak with me that couldn't wait?" He asked while gesturing for her to take a seat opposite him in this library-like room. A table was placed in the middle of the room, with three chairs along with it.
Aurora sat on one of the chairs opposite her father.
She stared around the books on the table for a while before speaking. "I have brought news about my training and I would like to tell you all about it."
"Did you fail?" He asked with a scolding voice.
Aurora replied. "No, I didn't."
"Did your guards die?" He asked again.
"One of them did." Aurora answered.
"Is that what you wish to speak about?"
Aurora thought for a moment before speaking again. "No, dad. Well, first of all, I would like to inform you that I'm now a fully-fledged Chosen like you've always wanted."
"I see. Congratulations then." He replied devoid of any emotion.
Aurora nodded, ignoring his words before speaking again. "What I wanted to truly inform you about was a boy I met in the training ground. He was odd at first, considering he didn't even know our family name. It got worse. He didn't know the name of any of the great families except the Boldir family."
"That's certainly odd." Her father replied.
Aurora continued. "Well, I didn't bother since he was my helper. If he hadn't shown up, my other guard and I would be dead right now."
Her father raised one eyebrow. "So what are you trying to say?"
Aurora gave a deep breath. "I want you to bring him into the family."
Her father stared at her for a moment and then he spoke. "Because he saved you and your guard? Dear, you need to know the rules of…"
"No, Father! Because he's strong!" Aurora corrected her father.
