84. Bad Day

When Waverly’s alarm rang that morning, she turned it off with a groan and reluctantly rolled out of bed. She didn’t get much sleep because her back had been hurting all day and night, which was a new thing that started fairly recently. Nicole, however, slept like a baby. She didn’t move once throughout the night while Waverly tossed and turned constantly. The fact that Nicole was able to sleep so well while she slept like shit annoyed Waverly a little, even though she knew it shouldn’t. She loved carrying their baby and she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but sometimes she was jealous that Nicole didn’t have to deal with the things she did.

She stumbled towards the master bathroom and flicked on the light. Immediately, she winced at how bright it was and blinked a few times, letting her vision get used to the new level of brightness. She then grabbed her toothbrush and reached for the toothpaste. When she squeezed the tube, she realized that it was completely empty. They must have used the last of it the night before. Thankfully though, Nicole had bought more when she went to the store after work. Waverly searched around the bathroom but couldn’t find the new tube anywhere. Apparently Nicole didn’t put it in the bathroom when she was emptying the shopping bags. That was one of Waverly’s pet peeves, not putting things where they belong. And Nicole didn’t always do it, which was frustrating because it wasn’t that difficult. You buy toothpaste, you put it in the bathroom. But instead, Nicole probably left it in the bag. And Waverly was already getting upset about having to go all the way down the stairs and then all the way back up just for some damn toothpaste. But she couldn’t just not brush her teeth. She opened the bathroom door loudly — hoping that it would wake Nicole — and shook the redhead.

Nicole let out a small, confused moan as she slowly opened her eyes. When she saw Waverly hovering over her, a sleepy smile grew on her face. “G’morning,” she croaked.

“Morning,” Waverly said shortly. It wasn’t as loving as Nicole’s greeting. “Where did you put the toothpaste?”

Nicole furrowed her brow. “Toothpaste?”

“Yes. The one you bought at the store yesterday.”

Nicole slowly shook her head apologetically. “I’m sorry baby, I didn’t buy any toothpaste at the store yesterday.”

Waverly gritted her teeth. “It was on the list I gave you.”

With a guilty look, Nicole replied, “I forgot to grab the list.”

Waverly sighed in frustration. “Nicole, you can’t go to the store and not have a list. That’s how things get forgotten, like toothpaste. Which we’re out of now, by the way. I need to brush my teeth and we don’t have toothpaste.”

Nicole noticed that Waverly was on the verge of tears and she sat up before pushing the covers off. “I’ll go get some right now.”

“No, there’s no point. I don’t have time to wait for that. I need to get to work.”

“Baby, I’m really sorry. I’ll pick some up today.”

“No, I’ll get it. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself.” She huffed before marching back into the bathroom, roughly shutting the door and turning on the shower.

With a small sigh, Nicole dropped back down onto the bed and stared up at the ceiling. She had a feeling today was going to be one of those days. Waverly’s mood swings had calmed down a bit since entering the second trimester, but sometimes she had bad days. Which was understandable, everyone has bad days, that wasn’t a new thing. But what was a new thing was that she now had a tendency to take her bad days out on Nicole, and the redhead wasn’t sure if she had the patience for that today.

After Waverly had gotten out of the shower, she went to her closet to find the dress she had planned on wearing, but couldn’t find it anywhere. She sifted through every single piece of clothing twice, before letting out a small huff and heading straight for the stairs.

“Have you seen my floral dress?” She asked Nicole – who was pouring herself some coffee – when she had gotten to the kitchen.

“The across the shoulder one? White with the blue flowers?”

Waverly nodded.

“I washed it last night. It’s still drying.”

Waverly looked at her incredulously. “Why would you do that? I wanted to wear that today! It’s the only thing that makes me look less like a whale.”

“Okay, you don’t look like a whale. You’re beautiful. And it was dirty so I figured I’d go ahead and wash it for you.”

“You should have asked first.” She folded her arms across her chest as she eyed Nicole.

“You wore it a couple of days ago. I didn’t think you’d want to wear it again this soon.”

Waverly quirked a questioning eyebrow. “Are you judging me?”

“No.” Nicole sighed and rubbed her hand over her face, feeling like she just couldn’t win…or say anything right. “I’m sorry I washed it. I should have asked. Is there another dress you can wear today?”

“I’ll figure it out. Don’t worry about it,” Waverly said dryly before stomping up the stairs.

“Oh my god,” Nicole mumbled in annoyance. She closed her eyes and blew out a slow breath to release all of her frustration, trying not to let it ruin her day. Whenever Waverly was in a bad mood it brought her own mood down, but she tried not to let it get to her this time. She wanted to have a good day, and she knew that the quickest way to do that was to get out of the house ASAP. She grabbed a paper coffee cup from the cabinet and poured her coffee into that before setting the empty mug in the sink and rushing out the door to head to work.

When Waverly had finally picked out an outfit – which wasn’t as good as the dress she originally wanted to wear, but it was doable – she went back downstairs to grab her satchel and say goodbye to Nicole, but the redhead wasn’t there. “Nicole?” She called out. She looked around for a few moments before looking out the window and seeing that her car wasn’t there. She lowered her eyebrows and pulled out her phone.

Waverly: So you’re not even going to say goodbye to me anymore? No I love you?

She waited for a response, but nothing. She sighed before muting their conversation, not wanting to think about Nicole anymore and grabbed her car keys before leaving the house.

When she got to work she rushed towards her office, lost in her own inner dialogue of yelling at Nicole, which led to her walking straight into a moving body.

“Sorry,” Scott quickly apologized and picked up his phone that he had dropped. When he noticed that it was Waverly he had bumped into, he laughed. “Okay, we’ve gotta stop doing that.”

“My fault.” Waverly shook her head, but she wasn’t smiling like she normally was, which he noticed.

“Everything okay?”

“Just having a bad day.” She sighed and continued walking towards her office, and he followed her.

“I’ve been there. Bad days are no joke.”

“Tell me about it.” She swung her satchel off of her shoulder and slammed it down onto her desk before dropping into her chair and letting out a heavy breath, all while Scott watched in slight concern.

“Well hey, why don’t I take you out to lunch today? Free food always makes anyone feel better.” He smiled and shoved his hands into the pockets of his fitted khaki pants, and when he noticed Waverly looking at him suspiciously he realized how the offer had come off. He quickly held his hands up in mock surrender. “Only as friends. I’m not hitting on you or anything.”

She shrugged. “I guess it couldn’t hurt. And since I’m eating for two, I’m always hungry.” She patted her hand gently over her stomach and gave a small smile while looking down at the baby she imagined she could see inside her, which was about the size of an apple at this point.

“Okay.” He nodded. “I’ll take you after your class. You can pick the venue.” With the corners of his mouth slightly curved up, he winked at her before walking out of her office and into his own.

They had gotten friendlier over the past few weeks. Waverly was finding out that Scott was actually a pretty nice guy who had good intentions, but sometimes managed to say the wrong things. She was helping him with that, and he was learning. It was an interesting dynamic to say the least, but one that kept her on her toes. And she liked that about him. Not to mention he often gave her some useful parenting tips, which she appreciated. Of course, she wasn’t completely new to having a baby around with having helped raise Alice and all, and Wynonna always gave her tips as well, but you can never have too many differing points of views and experiences. And his experiences as a single father definitely brought something new to the table.

“Why am I not surprised you picked this place…again.” Scott gave a small laugh. It was the third time that week they’d had lunch together at that specific bakery.

“They have the best vegan sandwiches.” Waverly shrugged before taking a bite, and Scott shook his head.

“So, you ready to tell me about your shitty morning yet?” He asked while giving her a knowing look.

Waverly let out a small sigh. “It started out with Nicole forgetting to buy toothpaste yesterday, and the tube was empty this morning so I couldn’t brush my teeth.”

“You came to work without brushing your teeth?”

She narrowed her eyes and snapped her fingers in his face. “Focus, Scott.”

“Right. Sorry.” He smiled apologetically, realizing that he was focusing on the wrong details – something Waverly had been helping him work on in his quest to better himself.

“Then she ended up washing my favorite dress that I was going to wear today and of course it was still drying, so I had to pick something else. And then she just left for work without even saying goodbye to me!” She let out a small huff through her nose before taking an aggressive bite of her sandwich.

“Do you think maybe you’re being a bit too hard on her?” His voice was calm and cool. “So, she forgot to get toothpaste. I forget stuff all the time.” He shrugged. “And the dress thing, sure you were going to wear it, but she took the time to wash it for you. She was trying to be helpful. And as far as leaving, I’m sure she just didn’t want to upset you any more so she decided to leave before making things worse.”

Waverly’s face softened as she looked at it all from Nicole’s point of view. “You’re right. I was a total asshole today.” She set her sandwich down on her plate and pinched the bridge of her nose while shaking her head. “I’m a monster.”

“You’re not a monster.” He laughed breathily. “We all have bad days, and you just woke up in a bad mood. It happens.”

“Do you think it’s the hormones from the pregnancy?”

“It could be. Or, it could be the whole human thing.” He smirked playfully, and Waverly threw a chip at him, which he picked up and put in his mouth.

“Either way, I’m sure Nicole will forgive you. She loves you, you know.”

“I know.” Waverly nodded with a small smile. “She’s so patient. I really can’t imagine going through this pregnancy without her. Or, life in general really.”

“It’s a good thing you don’t have to. You don’t have to do any of it on your own.” A weak smile formed on his face as he reached for his drink and took a small sip.

Waverly looked at him sympathetically. “Do you want to talk about her?”

“Not today,” he sighed. “Today, we talk about you.”

Waverly nodded, and they continued to talk as they finished up their lunch.

Nicole walked through the front door and slowly toed her shoes off. It had been a long day, especially since the only text she’d gotten from Waverly was one that said ‘come to the bedroom when you get home.’ She assumed she had done something wrong again and was about to get chewed out by the brunette. And she was ready to take the heat, because she knew that Waverly was just having a bad day and all of this would blow over soon enough. She really didn’t feel like arguing.

She slowly trudged up the stairs, and when she walked into the bedroom, she immediately noticed two dozen candles lit around the room. A smile spread across her face as she looked around at the romantic scene before landing her eyes on Waverly sitting on the bed with a small smile. “What’s all this?” Nicole asked in awe. She was definitely caught by surprise.

“I’m sorry for the way I acted today. I was in a bad mood and I took it out on you. You’re always so patient with me and you deserve to be treated with more respect than that.”

Nicole sat down on the bed beside Waverly. “I love you so much and I know that the pregnancy isn’t always easy. I want to take care of you, but I don’t always know the right way to do that.”

Waverly nodded for a moment before her loving smile transformed into a smirk. “I can tell you how to take care of me now?” She reached for the strap on that was sitting on the bed beside her and held it up with a hopeful look, and Nicole chuckled at how forward the woman was.

“Is that for you or for me?”

“For you,” Waverly replied as she handed it over to Nicole. “If you want to.”

“I want to.” Nicole leaned in and kissed Waverly’s lips before pulling back to look at her with a happy grin. This was exactly the way she wanted to end the day. “Wait right here.” She skipped towards the bathroom to put the harness on.

Waverly removed all of her clothing and waited on the bed patiently as she laid on her back. When the bathroom door swung open, she looked over to see Nicole walking out, and she couldn’t help but squeeze her legs together in response to the sudden ache between her thighs. Seeing Nicole in that harness with the way the straps hugged her hips was always a major turn on for her.

Nicole grabbed the bottle of lube from their dresser and climbed onto the bed, sitting back on her heels between Waverly’s spread legs. She spread the lube over the condom she had always put on while smiling down at Waverly. “We haven’t done this in a while,” she said softly.

“I know.” Waverly looked at the cock while biting down on her lower lip eagerly. She was excited to be filled. Her walls were physically begging for it, and suddenly she found herself slightly squirming in anticipation.

Nicole dropped forward and braced herself on the mattress with her hand beside Waverly and hovered over her as she used her other hand to slide the cock up and down her folds before finding her entrance. Even though she couldn’t feel it, she could tell how wet Waverly was by how easily the cock slipped inside, and both of them let out a loud sigh. Both of Nicole’s hands were now on the mattress and she slowly pushed her hips forward until she was flush with Waverly’s hips, meaning that the cock was all the way inside her.

“You’re so deep,” Waverly rasped while digging her fingernails into Nicole’s back. The redhead wondered if she was breaking skin, but either way she enjoyed the slight pain mixed with the pleasure of the base of the harness putting slight pressure against her clit. She began to thrust her hips at a slow pace and captured Waverly’s lips in a passionate kiss.

Nicole knew from the very beginning that tonight’s love making was going to be more tender and sensual based on the mood that Waverly had set, which was perfectly fine with her. They loved rough sex, but this was also sexy. She loved how romantic it was, and the slow pace really let her stop to think about how much she loved and appreciated her wife as their bodies connected. It added an extra layer of intensity and intimacy to the whole thing.

As they continued kissing with their tongues swirling together and their heavy breathing getting slightly louder, Nicole rocked her hips a little faster. It was mostly for Waverly, but also because rubbing her clit against the harness felt so damn good, and she craved more.

Nicole thought about the baby and how extraordinary Waverly was for carrying a life inside of her every day for the past 16 weeks. She was really something special, and she wanted to give the woman all the praise she deserved.

“You’re so beautiful,” Nicole whispered before placing a kiss on Waverly’s neck.

The words made Waverly melt, especially with how undesirable she had been feeling lately. She knew she wasn’t actually gaining and it was just normal pregnancy weight from the baby, but she couldn’t help but feel like she wasn’t beautiful anymore simply because she had a baby bump instead of a flat stomach. She hated that society’s view of female beauty had gotten to her that much, but she couldn’t help it. It was ingrained in her. But Nicole always knew how to make her feel beautiful and wanted.

“You’re so sexy, and you’re so amazing.” Nicole whispered some more before placing more kisses down towards her collarbone. “God I love you so much, Waverly.”

The words mixed with Nicole hitting all the right spots deep inside her sent Waverly into overdrive, and she felt herself rapidly approaching her climax. She wrapped her arms around Nicole tightly and buried her face in her neck as she squeezed her knees around her hips and let the intense orgasm take over her body.

With Waverly’s soft whimpers and heavy breathing, Nicole knew that she was coming and pushed the cock all the way inside. Her breath hitched at the way her clit rubbed against the base and she rocked her hips slightly to rub against it some more, sending herself into her own orgasm.

They held on tightly to each other as they rode out the waves of pleasure, until they came down from their highs. Their bodies relaxed and Nicole laid down on top of Waverly while placing lazy kisses on her cheek. “I love you,” she whispered sweetly.

Waverly turned her head and kissed Nicole tenderly. Their lips moved passionately for what felt like forever as the post-orgasm bliss took over them. Waverly eventually pulled out of the kiss and sighed happily through her smile. “I’m in such a good mood right now,” she giggled.

While running her fingers up and down Waverly’s arm, Nicole smiled at her wife, who looked gorgeous as ever with her subtle glow. Which, she wasn’t sure was from the pregnancy or the orgasm...or both. “I’ll bet.”

“Thank you,” Waverly said sincerely. “Thank you for always making me feel special.”

Nicole paused her movements and rested her hand on Waverly’s shoulder. “You are special.” Her words held conviction. “I’m so lucky to call you my wife. I love you, Waverly Earp.”

The corners of Waverly’s mouth rose into a grin. “I love you too, Nicole Haught.” She looked up in thought for a moment. “I know we decided to keep our last names, but what last name is our baby going to have?”

Nicole shrugged. “I figured we’d do a hyphenated name. Like, Earp-Haught.”

Waverly smiled. “Or, Haught-Earp.”

Nicole chuckled lightly. “We’ll figure it out when the time comes.” She started to pull out, but Waverly quickly placed a hand on her backside, keeping her from moving.

“Can you keep it in for a little longer? It feels good.”

Nicole nodded with a small smile and relaxed on top of Waverly, tangling their legs together as they got comfortable.

---

Waverly slowly opened her eyes. The room was pitch black aside from the one candle that was still lit. She looked around and realized that Nicole wasn’t in bed with her anymore. “Nicole?” She called out.

“I’m right here baby,” A voice came from the doorway, and Waverly looked over to find Nicole standing there. She smiled and relaxed against the bed. As Nicole came into the light, she noticed that she was still wearing the strap on...or, was it the strap on? She didn’t question it. Nicole slowly climbed on top of her and slid the cock inside her, and Waverly felt full again. She closed her eyes and wrapped her hands around Nicole’s shoulders.

“That feels so good baby,” Waverly panted.

“Yeah?” The voice was deep, but it didn’t faze her.

“Yeah.” She moved her hand up to grip short, thick hair, and Nicole pulled back to look at Waverly. Only, it wasn’t Nicole that Waverly was looking up at; it was Scott.

“You’re perfect,” he said.

Waverly looked at him for a moment before smiling and she pulled him down into a heated kiss.

Almost as soon as their lips touched, Waverly was jolted awake and she quickly sat up as she panted, trying to catch her breath.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” Nicole asked. She was half awake, but was worried about her wife nonetheless. “You’re sweating. Did you have a nightmare?”

Waverly looked around the room and was brought back into her reality. “Yeah, something like that,” she replied as she slowly laid back down. Nicole kissed her on the cheek, and she wrapped her hand around Waverly’s forearm.

“It’s okay baby, it was just a dream.” Nicole’s voice was groggy as she was already drifting back to sleep with her leg hooked over Waverly’s thighs and her arm draped over her chest.

“Yeah. Just a dream.” Waverly’s eyes were unblinking as she looked up at the ceiling. She felt weird, and confused. What did that dream even mean? Did she like Scott? ...did she like men? She loved Nicole, and she didn’t want to be with anyone else, especially not Scott. But all of this was so confusing, and extremely concerning. She closed her eyes, not wanting to let herself overthink it anymore and tried to force herself to go back to sleep.

The next day at work, Waverly sat at her desk focused on making her lesson plan when she heard a knock on the door. “Come in,” she yelled in a friendly voice, and her stomach dropped when she saw Scott open the door.

“Hey you.” He smiled.

“Hey,” she said shortly before looking back at her laptop.

“I was about to get something to eat. Wanna join me?” He pointed at her teasingly. “As long as it’s not the bakery again.”

“That’s okay. I brought something for lunch.” She gave a small smile and a curt head nod before continuing to type.

He looked at her for a moment, waiting for the conversation to continue, but it never did. “Oh, okay. Well, I’ll let you get back to work then.” He waited for a response, but nothing. He shrugged and shut the door.

As soon as he was gone, Waverly let out a heavy sigh and sunk down in her chair. She couldn’t stop thinking about the dream she had, and her brain started running in circles. She pulled out her phone and sent a quick text to Wynonna.

Waverly: Hey, are you busy today?

Wynonna: I’ve got work until 5 and then I’m off. Everything okay?

Waverly: Just got some things on my mind and need to talk

Wynonna: Feel free time come over anytime

Waverly: <3

Waverly sat on the couch in the homestead living room, sipping her tea as she stared down at the floor. She had been like that since Wynonna had handed her the hot mug a few minutes prior.

“Uh, you said you had something you wanted to talk about?” Wynonna said. She had been waiting patiently for Waverly to start but realized that probably wasn’t going to happen without a little push.

“Right.” Waverly nodded. She closed her eyes for a moment and shook her head. “Sorry, it’s just a little difficult to talk about.”

“Did something happen with you and Nicole?” Wynonna leaned slightly forward in concern, but relaxed when Waverly shook her head.

“No, nothing like that. It’s about me.”

She was even more concerned now. “It’s not the baby, is it?”

Waverly sighed and rested her mug on her lap before mindlessly running her finger around the rim. “I had a dream about someone.” She looked up at her older sister and in a hushed tone added, “A sexy dream.”

Wynonna quirked an eyebrow. “And I’m guessing you’re worried because that someone wasn’t Nicole?”

With a small huff, she leaned forward and set her tea on the coffee table in front of her before leaning back against the couch and grabbing a pillow to hug. “Yeah. But I’m more worried because it was a man.” She glanced up at Wynonna to see her reaction, but she just looked like she was still taking in the information. “I mean, the whole dream wasn’t about him. It started out being Nicole. We were in bed together, and then all of a sudden she became him. The guy I work with. And I just felt very unfazed by it in the dream, which is what freaks me out the most. Almost like I wanted it to be him.”

“Well, do you like the dude?” Wynonna tried to remain impartial to the situation, even though the last thing she wanted was for Waverly to leave Nicole for some guy she just met, because the redhead was too perfect for her.

“I...I don’t know. I didn’t think so before? I’d never even thought about him like that until I had that dream.”

“So, you’re thinking of him like that now?”

“No,” Waverly quickly shook her head. “God no. It was just in the dream I seemed like I wanted it.”

Wynonna nodded as she took in each piece of new information and put them all together in her head like puzzle pieces. “Dreams could mean something totally different than what they seem. I’ve had sexy dreams about other people before, even women. It doesn’t necessarily mean that I actually like them or want to be with them. Usually it means something else entirely that’s not even about them.” She shrugged. “Did something happen yesterday?”

Waverly nodded as she drew her eyebrows together in thought. “Well, I was having a bad day yesterday and he made me feel better after I had a fight with Nicole...” she trailed off.

Wynonna snapped her fingers. “See? There you go. Your subconscious was probably just holding onto that. The hormones are probably just heightening your emotions and causing wacky dreams too. Especially sexy ones.”

Waverly sighed in relief. The explanation made sense. “Yeah, that’s probably it.”

“You don’t want to be with the guy, right?” Wynonna had to double check to make sure. She didn’t want to just dismiss Waverly’s feelings if this was about her realizing that she actually did like men, but Waverly quickly shook her head.

“No. I don’t even like him in that way. Nicole is the only person I can see a future with, and nothing is going to change that. I guess the dream just sort of freaked me out and made me wonder if something more was there, but I can honestly say that there’s not.”

“Okay, just double checking.” Wynonna smiled. “You know, if it ever was something you realized, I’d support you. Liking men too, I mean.”

Waverly looked at her sister in appreciation. “Yeah, I know.”

“Good.” The older Earp gave a firm head nod.

“So, do you think I should tell Nicole about this?

Wynonna blew out a long breath as she slowly shook her head, unsure of what to tell her. “I mean, ultimately that’s up to you. I don’t think there’s a right answer to that one. It’s not like you did anything wrong, and if you wanted to just forget about it and take it to the grave then you could do that. It wouldn’t hurt her. But if you want to share with her then go for it.”

Waverly nodded and smiled at her sister. “Thanks, Wynonna.”

“Anytime.” Wynonna smiled back. “So, this guy...is he hot?”

Waverly rolled her eyes. “Why is everyone trying to hook up with my colleague?”

“Hey, it’s not like we get a lot of fresh meat around here. And I haven’t gotten laid in a while.”

“They make apps for that, you know.”

“Yeah but I’ve swiped through everyone already. They either look like serial killers or I’ve already slept with them.” Wynonna rolled her eyes.

“What about Doc? Are you guys still doing the whole FWB thing?”

Wynonna let out a small sigh. “We’re trying not to. It just gets too complicated, especially with Alice being in the middle of it all.”

“Yeah, I get that.” Waverly picked her tea back up and took a sip. “Well hey, you’ll find that special someone to say ‘I do’ to. Just not the guy I work with.” She quirked an eyebrow.

Wynonna laughed in amusement. “Oh Waverly, you’ve always been such a romantic. It’s adorable.”

Waverly narrowed her eyes in her sister’s direction, unsure if that was meant as a compliment or an insult.

“I’m not looking for someone to play house with. I’m just looking for someone to play my fiddle, if you know what I mean.” Wynonna winked.

Waverly grimaced and quickly held a hand up. “Yep, I got it. Thanks for the weird visual.” She shook her head and sipped her tea some more, ignoring the amused look Wynonna was giving her.
