Two Soul in One Body

"Gggrrr …."

The giant wolf in front of Ruby growled again until its saliva dripped onto the floor. The stench wafted from its body, making it harder for Ruby to breathe.

Ruby then mustered all her strength to inched backward. She crawled towards the door, but the cold temperature made her body move so slowly that Ruby couldn't reach the door.

The demon beast slowly walked into the room. Every time it took a step, a dark aura emanated from its body, filled the room, and made Ruby's breath even tighter.

Ruby covered her mouth with both hands, trying hard to control her erratic breathing. Tears rolled down from Ruby's eyes as fear enveloped her.

[I don't want to die now … please, please, someone help me.]

Ruby's eyes locked on the figure of the demon beast, who was now walking closer to the woman. Ruby wanted to close her eyes so she wouldn't have to see the would-be killer, but her stiff body wouldn't obey her wishes and kept her eyes wide open as if forced her to witness her own death.

Crash!

Ruby flinched as a black sword flew swiftly from outside the window, then pierced the head of the monster in front of her. The wolf's flesh was torn apart while its black blood splattered throughout the room, including staining Ruby's face and clothes.

Within seconds, the giant wolf fell to the floor. The wolf's red eyes were still open, staring straight at Ruby as if it wanted to terrorize her even in its death.

"Did you extinguish the fireplace in this room?"

A man in a black robe stood on the balcony of Ruby's room. He looked at the woman with cold eyes as if Ruby's presence was something that bothered him.

A dense black aura enveloped the man's body, even to the point that Ruby had difficulty seeing his face clearly.

[He's dangerous ….]

That black aura symbolized the feeling of wanting to kill or destroy—the darker the black color, the more vile and dangerous that person will be.

However, Ruby was strangely not afraid of the man in front of her even though that man's presence was as dangerous as the demon beast that was previously in Ruby's room.

The man stepped into the room. "When the moon is full, the monster named Berseker will rise above the Veritas land, so every house or room in Veritas territory must have a fireplace to prevent the monster from coming inside the room."

"But you bravely extinguished the fireplace in your room. Do you have a death wish?"

Ruby shook her head quickly as she pointed at the fireplace. She tried to hint that she wasn't the one who extinguished the fire.

"You can't talk?"

Ruby nodded slowly.

The man suddenly let out a loud laugh from his mouth as if to mock Ruby for her inability to speak. Ruby should have been annoyed, but her annoyance evaporated when she realized that the man's voice sounded familiar to her ears.

"Matthew begged me to ensure your safety tonight. However, I didn't expect the person he wanted to save was just a useless mute woman."

The man then lit a match and threw it into the fireplace. Once the fire was lit, Ruby could finally see the figure of the man in front of her clearly.

[How … how is that possible?]

Although Ruby had only met the man in person a few times, she could remember him well. Starting from his face, hair color, or even his posture, all of that figure was already recorded in Ruby's memory, so she couldn't possibly misrecognize that person.

Matthew Harelle.

The man before her had an identical appearance to Matthew, the Lycan King of Veritas and the man whom Ruby married a few days ago.

But there was one part of the man that was not identical to Matthew's figure: his eyes. If Matthew had golden eyes that always seemed to burn and filled with warmth whenever he saw Ruby, then the man before her had blue eyes that looked as cold as the ocean in winter that could freeze a person.

[Who's he? Why does his face resemble His Majesty?]

"I resemble Matthew's face?" the man laughed. "Darling, you are wrong. Matthew is me, and I am Matthew. We're in the same body, even though I'm much better than him."

Ruby flinched when she heard the man's reply. She didn't expect Matthew to have two personalities or even two different souls. However, there was something that surprised Ruby more than that fact.

[Can you hear my thoughts?]

The man lowered his head so his blue eyes could directly meet Ruby's eyes. "Yes, I can hear you very clearly."

[Can His Majesty also do it?]

"Of course, he couldn't. I told you I'm better than him."

There was a hint of arrogance in his voice; even the man looked at Ruby with a condescending look, as if Ruby was no different from a piece of junk.

[If you are indeed in the same body as His Majesty, then where is he now?]

'Matthew' tilted his head, then put his hand on his chin. He looked like he was in deep thought, but Ruby felt that his behavior was just being made up to upset Ruby.

Moments later, the man knocked on his head. "He's inside my head, or rather, he's screaming at me and threatening to kill me if I ever touch you."

"Isn't that funny?" The smile on 'Matthew''s face grew wider as he touched Ruby's long hair strands. "If Matthew wants to kill me, then it's just like he wants to unalive himself."

"But I wonder, why does he want to marry a woman like you? No matter how long I looked at you, you really don't have any advantages apart from your pretty face."

'Matthew''s hand that was playing with Ruby's hair moved and gripped the woman's chin. He moved Ruby's face left and right to see her whole face more clearly.

"But there is another thing that makes me wonder. Why are you not afraid of me? If you were another woman, they would try to run away instead of standing still in front of me."

[Why should I be afraid of you?]

"Because I can kill you easily."

Suddenly, 'Matthew' gripped Ruby's neck tightly, making the woman immediately struggle and try to escape. However, even though she was on the verge of death, Ruby still didn't feel scared at all, as if she was sure that 'Matthew' would never kill her.

Brak!

The room door was suddenly kicked from outside, revealing the figure of Sir Diaz, whose clothes and face were stained with black blood. "Milady! Are you all rig–"

Diaz suddenly pulled out his sword when he saw 'Matthew' was strangling Ruby's neck. "Matius! Get your hands off from Lady Ruby's neck! Or I will —"

"Or what? Do you think you can beat me?"
